Patrik MacDonnell, call sign Recurve, was a MechWarrior serving in the Aurigan Coalition's special Rampart Company in the aftermath of the Arano Civil War.[1]

History[edit]

Born on Fuentes in the Free Worlds League the eldest son of the proud House MacDonnell, Patrik shared the intense patriotism and martial focus of his ancestors as he followed in their footsteps at the controls of his family 'Mech Aisling as a spotter in the Free Worlds League Militia. All this would end when an artillery strike on his barracks left him gravely wounded, forcing Patrik to accept cybernetic prosthetics to replace his lost left eye, right arm and right leg, eventually returning to Aisling's command couch only to be driven out of the Free Worlds League Military by his comrades' fear and hostility about prosthetics.[1]

In response Patrik MacDonnell embarked on a career as mercenary, fighting alongside numerous mercenary commands in every corner of the Free Worlds League, finding in them the sense of comradery and family he'd lost. That would shatter again in 3014 when Anton Marik's attempted coup would turn MacDonnell's adoptive families against each other. Serving once more as a spotter, MacDonnell was forced to watch from a distance as his dearest friends savagely slaughtered each other before he chose to desert his post, hitching a ride-off world with fleeing pro-Anton mercenary command heading towards the Rimward Periphery upon learning his family and their estates had been bombed early in the conflict by Janos Marik loyalists.[1]

Throwing himself into mercenary work in the so-called Aurigan Reach, Patrik MacDonnell would eventually join the Antian Lanciarii, serving under Commander Elygene for almost nine years. It was during Operation RESTORED HOPE that he came to the attention of Aurigan commander Captain Karen Andris, who eventually offered to purchase his contract from Lanciarii in return for a lucrative border defense contract with the Aurigan Coalition, bringing Patrik MacDonnell onboard as a member of Aurigan's elite and secretive Rampart Company.[1] He took part in the unit's first mission in 3026, responding to reports of unidentified 'Mechs on Smithon. On 22 August, the interlopers were recognized as a medium battle lance from the Lyran Commonwealth investigating the remains of a Star League garrison. When signals intelligence revealed the Lyrans had found what they were looking for, Rampart had no choice but to attack; allowing their departure would make Smithon a target for innumerable objective raids.[2]

BattleMechs[edit]

Patrik MacDonnell was trained almost from birth to pilot Aisling, a LCT-1V Locust and the ancestral BattleMech of House MacDonnell, piloting the nimble 'Mech with skill and precision as a spotter and scout for the Free Worlds League military and numerous mercenary units. On combat drops, MacDonnel was known to sprint ahead of his lance, dodging enemy fire and calling targets, ensuring Aisling's long and varied deployment history and never having suffered catastrophic damage remained unblemished. [1]

During the nine years he served with Antian Lanciarii Aisling become something a company mascot, with a stencil of it's silhouette adorning the side of the unit's Union-class DropShip the Gilded Trireme.[1]
