The Pirate's Haven stellar cluster is home to at least one habitable world and as at 3145 was located in the Periphery between the borders of the Calderon Protectorate and the Periphery March of the Federated Suns.[1][2]

System Description

The Pirate's Haven stellar cluster is located near the Dumassas and Hawktor systems[1][2] and consists of a dense cluster of stars, within which are located some fifty assorted planets. The nature of existence within a stellar cluster means that some of these fifty planets have wild, erratic orbits, while some others are held awkwardly in the gravitational fields of multiple stars. At the heart of the cluster lies a protostar, torn apart before it could form and kept from forming by intense gravitational forces; those same gravitational forces make it hazardous in the extreme for JumpShips to attempt to approach the cluster.[3]

System History

Reunification War

A single planet within the cluster, Badlands, had been colonized by the Taurian Concordat prior to the Reunification War; at that point, the Pirate's Haven star cluster was known as the Badlands Cluster.[4] The Star League Defense Force largely ignored the Badlands Cluster during the Reunification War; Badlands was a minor world, and for a decade, SLDF monitoring ships watched the cluster closely, without being able to determine much of anything about Badlands itself or whatever was on the planet. None of the Taurian ships captured by the SLDF during the course of the Reunification War had ever traveled to badlands, and the most that the intelligence agencies of both the SLDF and the Federated Suns could determine about Badlands was that it was a hot, desolate planet - and one that was almost never visited. Faced with the prospect of having to spend years surveying and mapping the cluster before they had any chance of finding Badlands - or any safe jump points to use within the cluster - the SLDF ignored it. The Calderons largely ignored the Cluster as well, and as a result Badlands became a haven for refugees, dissidents and outlaws throughout the war, and the first SLDF garrison wouldn't be placed on Badlands until after the war ended.[5]

Star League Era

A second planet within the Cluster, Lorkdal, was colonized by the Concordat during the Star League era.[4][6]

Succession Wars

The Concordat ceded control over the Badlands Cluster during the Third Succession War[7][4][8][9] and the cluster, which had already been home to outlaws for centuries,[5] became known as Pirate's Haven.[4][8][9][10]

FedCom Civil War

By 3064 a single planet inside the cluster was known to be habitable, and that planet was ruled over by the bandit king "Bloody" James Kaiten. Kaiten maintained control of the planet - albeit barely - until the arrival of Paula Trevaline, the infamous Lady Death, and her reformed Death's Consorts. Trevaline battled Kaiten for control of Haven, and Kaiten fought hard - finally dying "kicking, thrashing and finally choking on his own tongue" and Trevaline became Dame of Haven, with the rest of the cluster accepting her control by acclamation.[3] A small 'Mech factory was created in the Cluster, which allowed the pirates to produce a light 'Mech for the first time, the Brigand.[11]
