References to Quentin as a planet typically refer to Quentin IV, the primary world in the system. As of 3023, the world was considered valuable for its factories and research complexes even though by that time the research complexes were inactive and the factories struggling due to frequent attacks. There were several settlements although the planets of the Quentin system were described as inhospitable. It had a breathable yet stormy atmosphere, which was also described an arid world.

Early History
* 2315 - Independent world
+
Identified as being a world rich in raw materials, Quentin was targeted for colonization by a number of corporations from Terra looking to exploit the planet's wealth; the first settlers were corporate employees, and Quentin swiftly built up an industrial base to further the ambitions of the corporations that had invested in the world.

* 2319 - Terran Hegemony
+
By the twenty-fourth century, Quentin was already a wealthy independent world. Shortly after Quentin signed a mutual defense pact with the nearby worlds of Errai and Helen it was targeted for conquest by Director-General James McKenna of the newly formed Terran Hegemony. Having secured his hold over all of the worlds within the rump state of the Terran Alliance, McKenna began a "Campaign of Persuasion" to bring other former Alliance worlds and independent worlds into the Hegemony through military force, and the three allied worlds of Errai, Helen, and Quentin were his first targets.

+

* 2596 - Terran Hegemony
+
McKenna attacked the Quentin system with a large fleet of WarShips, and despite knowing that there was little chance of resisting the invasion the leaders of each of the three allied worlds planned to teach McKenna a lesson; all three worlds converted fleets of cargo and interplanetary courier ships into fighting vessels by adding lasers and missile tubes to battle in space, and all three worlds beefed up their ground forces with large militia forces of trained personnel augmented by volunteers. The colonists on Quentin fought a dogged, even fanatical, campaign of resistance against the Hegemony Armed Forces before finally being conquered, and the resistance offered by those on Quentin taught the HAF a number of harsh lessons.

As time passed, many of the industries on Quentin converted their production to support military applications, causing the economy to truly thrive—but with the increased prosperity came increased attention from nearby governments, who were keen to take control of Quentin and its industries. Quentin was saved from being ravaged by warfare when the Star League formed, ending open warfare at least for a time.

The era of the Star League brought further growth and prosperity to Quentin by establishing a substantial BattleMech manufacturing plant in the Steel Valley region, a densely populated industrial region of Quentin on the continent of Morandi. The Star League factory produced dozens of BattleMech designs, particularly heavy and assault designs such as the Atlas, Marauder, JagerMech, and Victor, and the factory would later form the heart of the company known as Independence Weaponry.

Quentin became the target of repeated invasion attempts during the Succession Wars, with the Capellan Confederation, Draconis Combine and Federated Suns all bitterly contesting control of the planet and its important industrial production. The battles to control Quentin left a number of scars in their wake; even the atmosphere of the planet was affected, becoming much more caustic in the wake of a massive biological weapon attack during the First Succession War, launched by one of the retreating factions.

Third Succession War
3025
+
In June 3023, Wolf's Dragoons, attacked Quentin IV on behalf of the Draconis Combine.  Colonel Jaime Wolf led the Alpha, Gamma and Delta Regiments and successfully raided several targets on world. Their main goal was the industrial assets in the city of Fasolht, but they launched a false attack on Port Gailfry to lure out the Davion defenders. When the Davion forces advanced to hit the Dragoons' flank, the Dragoons faked retreating to further draw out their enemy. Then they turned to engage the defenders while a second force attacked the now defenseless city of Fasolht.

During this operation, Jaime met the Combine's Liaison Officer assigned to the Dragoons, Minobu Tetsuhara. The two men did not know at the time that they had met previously on Dromini VI as it was Minobu who had spared Jaime's life when his Archer was caught shut-down and overheated during that battle.

When a problem emerged in the Dragoons' plans, Jaime Wolf provided a Vindicator BattleMech to Minobu to assist in fighting in an area called Fire Rift.  There Minobu would once again save Jaime's life when his 'Mech was trapped in lava. This helped cement a deep friendship between the two men.

Dark Age
As of 3023 the Quentin system's third planet was considered valuable for its mineral resources, and was implicitly settled at least to some degree although it was considered inhospitable. The yearly output of its mines had been reduced to less than a month's quota during the Star League era as a result of frequent attacks.
+
Quentin was incorporated into the Republic of the Sphere, but even under the aegis of the Republic the outlying regions of Quentin continued to decline. The bulk of the planetary population was living in or around Steel Valley by the thirty-second century; also located on Morandi was the planetary capital, Prosperity Point. Morandi was far more heavily populated than Gladius, El Largo and El Minoro, partly because of the extreme cold encountered in those regions and partly because of the continuing decline of these regions following the incessant warfare of the post–Star League centuries.

Quentin IV
+
In April of 3133, the planet was attacked by Kal Radick's Steel Wolves. His forces were led by Star Colonel Ulan who had targeted production facilities at "Port Frome." This industrial site was capable of manufacturing militarized "Agricultural and ForestryMechs." The attack was successfully thwarted by Northwind Highlanders forces led by General Gwyn Davies and resulted in an embarrassing rout for the Steel Wolves. Little else is known about this conflict.
References to Quentin as a planet typically mean the main planet, Quentin IV. As of 3023 the Quentin system's fourth planet was considered valuable for its factories and research complexes even though by that time the research complexes were gone and the factories struggling due to frequent attacks. There were several settlements although the planets of the Quentin system were described as inhospitable. It had a breathable yet stormy atmosphere, which was also described as hot and dry; the planet was described as an arid world.

Planetary Geography
+
Left outside of Fortress Republic, Quentin was briefly independent until it was claimed by the Draconis Combine in 3137 or 3138. In 3143, the RAF mounted a successful raid through the Wall against what was believed to be a DCMS staging area for penetrating the Fortress. During Operation ERUPTIO in 3149 Quentin was the first world attacked by the RAF's Second Army Group, who devastated DCMS military infrastructure and supplies before moving on.
Quentin VII has four continents spread around the surface of the planet. The continent furthest north is El Largo; the continent of Morandi is located on the equator, whilst Gladius is located in the southern hemisphere and El Minoro is in the southern polar regions of the world. The average temperature on each of the continents other than Morandi is cold enough to make them unwelcoming to human habitation. Beyond those, named continents include Aja and its smaller companion Aja Minor (though it is possible that these are just different names for two of the aforementioned continents).

The city of Batan, ruled by one baron Davis as of 3023, is mentioned, but was apparently not planetary capital. Batan notably has a large spaceport. Other named cities are Port Gailfry, Fasolht (in the Ridge Mountain foothills), and Carson. There is also the Fire Rift geological anomaly and the Plains of Glass. Another named city is Port Frome.

By the 24th century Quentin was already a wealthy independent world. Shortly after Quentin signed a mutual defense pact with the nearby worlds of Errai and Helen it was targeted for conquest by Director-General James McKenna of the newly-formed Terran Hegemony. Having secured his hold over all of the worlds within the rump state of the Terran Alliance, McKenna began a "Campaign of Persuasion" to bring other former Alliance worlds and independent worlds into the Hegemony through military force, and the three allied worlds of Errai, Helen and Quentin were his first targets.

* In Wolves on the Border, the continents of Aja and Aja Minor are referenced as being on Quentin IV.  However, these two continents are not referenced in either Handbook: House Kurita or Dark Age: Republic Worlds (3130). As the latter is a more recent publication, it takes precedence.

* Wolves on the Border marks the primary planet on Quentin as Quentin IV. The system's LinkNet article as found in Dark Age: Republic Worlds (3130) gives the main planet's position as 7 of 7, but this has expressly been declared an error in this ruling on the official Forum

The Quentin system was home to at least two habitable worlds, Quentin III and Quentin IV, and as of 3151 was located in the Al Na'ir Prefecture in the Dieron Military District within the Draconis Combine.[3]

System Description[edit]

Quentin is located near the Errai and Lockdale systems and is Spinward of Terra. It is known to have seven planets and a Recharge Station at is Zenith Jump Point as of 3067.[4][5]

System History[edit]

The Quentin system was colonized at some time prior to 2271.[6]

Political Affiliation[edit]

Quentin III[edit]

Quentin III

As of 3023, the Quentin system's third planet was considered valuable for its mineral resources, and was implicitly settled at least to some degree although it was considered inhospitable.[59] The yearly output of its mines had been reduced to less than a month's quota during the Star League era as a result of frequent attacks.[60]

References to Quentin as a planet typically refer to Quentin IV, the primary world in the system. As of 3023, the world was considered valuable for its factories and research complexes even though by that time the research complexes were inactive and the factories struggling due to frequent attacks. There were several settlements although the planets of the Quentin system were described as inhospitable.[63] It had a breathable yet stormy atmosphere,[64] which was also described an arid world.[65]

Planetary History[edit]

Early History[edit]

Identified as being a world rich in raw materials, Quentin was targeted for colonization by a number of corporations from Terra looking to exploit the planet's wealth; the first settlers were corporate employees, and Quentin swiftly built up an industrial base to further the ambitions of the corporations that had invested in the world.[2]

By the twenty-fourth century, Quentin was already a wealthy independent world. Shortly after Quentin signed a mutual defense pact with the nearby worlds of Errai and Helen it was targeted for conquest by Director-General James McKenna of the newly formed Terran Hegemony. Having secured his hold over all of the worlds within the rump state of the Terran Alliance, McKenna began a "Campaign of Persuasion" to bring other former Alliance worlds and independent worlds into the Hegemony through military force, and the three allied worlds of Errai, Helen, and Quentin were his first targets.[7]

The colonists on Quentin fought a dogged, even fanatical, campaign of resistance against the Hegemony Armed Forces before finally being conquered, and the resistance offered by those on Quentin taught the HAF a number of harsh lessons.[7]

Age of War[edit]

As time passed, many of the industries on Quentin converted their production to support military applications, causing the economy to truly thrive—but with the increased prosperity came increased attention from nearby governments, who were keen to take control of Quentin and its industries. Quentin was saved from being ravaged by warfare when the Star League formed, ending open warfare at least for a time.[2]

Star League Era[edit]

The era of the Star League brought further growth and prosperity to Quentin by establishing a substantial BattleMech manufacturing plant in the Steel Valley region, a densely populated industrial region of Quentin on the continent of Morandi. The Star League factory produced dozens of BattleMech designs, particularly heavy and assault designs such as the Atlas, Marauder, JagerMech, and Victor, and the factory would later form the heart of the company known as Independence Weaponry.[2]

The Succession Wars[edit]

Quentin became the target of repeated invasion attempts during the Succession Wars, with the Capellan Confederation, Draconis Combine and Federated Suns all bitterly contesting control of the planet and its important industrial production. The battles to control Quentin left a number of scars in their wake; even the atmosphere of the planet was affected, becoming much more caustic in the wake of a massive biological weapon attack during the First Succession War, launched by one of the retreating factions.[2]

Third Succession War[edit]

In June 3023, Wolf's Dragoons, attacked Quentin IV on behalf of the Draconis Combine. Colonel Jaime Wolf led the Alpha, Gamma and Delta Regiments and successfully raided several targets on world. Their main goal was the industrial assets in the city of Fasolht, but they launched a false attack on Port Gailfry to lure out the Davion defenders. When the Davion forces advanced to hit the Dragoons' flank, the Dragoons faked retreating to further draw out their enemy. Then they turned to engage the defenders while a second force attacked the now defenseless city of Fasolht.[66]

During this operation, Jaime met the Combine's Liaison Officer assigned to the Dragoons, Minobu Tetsuhara. The two men did not know at the time that they had met previously on Dromini VI as it was Minobu who had spared Jaime's life when his Archer was caught shut-down and overheated during that battle.[67]

When a problem emerged in the Dragoons' plans, Jaime Wolf provided a Vindicator BattleMech to Minobu to assist in fighting in an area called Fire Rift. There Minobu would once again save Jaime's life when his 'Mech was trapped in lava. This helped cement a deep friendship between the two men.[66]

Soon thereafter, the Coordinator himself, Takashi Kurita joined the fighting. On 21 June 3023, the Dragoons seized Fasolht and the major resources there were stripped for shipment back to Luthien.[66]

The Jihad[edit]

In 3069 Quentin was attacked by Word of Blake forces that included the mercenary Khasparov's Knights though were beaten back by the Tenth Ghost. In 3070 the Ghosts departed and the Knights swiftly returned.[68]

It became the baseworld for the Forty-seventh Shadow Division and raised three Protectorate Militia divisions. These divisions were trained by Khasparov's Knights. In early 3077, Sorenson's Sabres raided the world in force, but didn't encounter any Manei Domini troops.[69] It was targeted for liberation by the allied coalition in May 3077 as a part of Operation SCOUR. The campaign quickly bogged down when the allied forces were struck by terrorist bombs on 17 May 3077 that hit three DropShips as well as a Manei Domini attack aimed at the commanders of the task force, which included Kanrei Kiyomori Minamoto. Minamoto responded to the insurgency by bringing in teams from the ISF and the Order of Five Pillars to track down hidden Blakist operatives, as well as ordering house-to-house searches for insurgents.[49][70]

The Blakist forces on Quentin received reinforcements in late May when a small Word of Blake fleet dropped several Level IIs of troops onto the world, reinforcing the Manei Domini forces already fighting against the coalition troops.[49] The Blakists had taken advantage of a lapse in the air cover provided by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns over the northern hemisphere; even as the forces on the planet were receiving reinforcements, the Forty-seventh Shadow Division revealed its presence by destroying an overextended two-Star patrol from Clan Wolf forces.[71][70]

By the end of June, the Blakists had made wide use of biological weapons as a part of their campaign against Minamoto's forces, leading to Minamoto implementing martial law, an extremely unpopular measure with the local population. The bulk of the Forty-seventh Shadow Division was finally cornered and destroyed in late July, when the coalition forces assaulted a hidden mountain base that had been discovered near the capital city. The combined forces of the First Sword of Light and Clan Wolf's Tau Galaxy trapped the Blakist forces and crushed the bulk of them bar the few survivors who managed to escape to a nearby Blakist WarShip.[71][70] However, the heavy-handed actions of the coalition forces saw the local population promptly rise up. The situation on Quentin quickly broke down to the point that coalition General Belle Lee decided to replace Minamoto's garrison forces with elements of the Com Guards.[49]

The actions of the First Sword of Light against the Forty-Seventh Shadow Division were dramatized in Steel Courage.[72]

Dark Age[edit]

Quentin was incorporated into the Republic of the Sphere, but even under the aegis of the Republic the outlying regions of Quentin continued to decline. The bulk of the planetary population was living in or around Steel Valley by the thirty-second century; also located on Morandi was the planetary capital, Prosperity Point. Morandi was far more heavily populated than Gladius, El Largo and El Minoro, partly because of the extreme cold encountered in those regions and partly because of the continuing decline of these regions following the incessant warfare of the post–Star League centuries.[2]

In April of 3133, the planet was attacked by Kal Radick's Steel Wolves. His forces were led by Star Colonel Ulan who had targeted production facilities at "Port Frome." This industrial site was capable of manufacturing militarized "Agricultural and ForestryMechs." The attack was successfully thwarted by Northwind Highlanders forces led by General Gwyn Davies[54] and resulted in an embarrassing rout for the Steel Wolves.[73] Little else is known about this conflict.

Left outside of Fortress Republic, Quentin was briefly independent until it was claimed by the Draconis Combine in 3137 or 3138.[56] In 3143, the RAF mounted a successful raid through the Wall against what was believed to be a DCMS staging area for penetrating the Fortress.[74] During Operation ERUPTIO in 3149 Quentin was the first world attacked by the RAF's Second Army Group, who devastated DCMS military infrastructure and supplies before moving on.[75]

Military Deployment[edit]

Geography[edit]

Quentin IV has four continents spread around the surface of the planet. The continent furthest north is El Largo; the continent of Morandi is located on the equator, whilst Gladius is located in the southern hemisphere and El Minoro is in the southern polar regions of the world. The average temperature on each of the continents other than Morandi is cold enough to make them unwelcoming to human habitation.[2]

The city of Batan, ruled by one Baron Davis as of 3023, is mentioned to notably have a large spaceport. Other named cities are Port Gailfry, Fasolht (in the Ridge Mountain foothills), and Carson. There is also the Fire Rift geological anomaly and the Plains of Glass.[87] Another named city is Port Frome.[88]

Notes[edit]

 • In Wolves on the Border, the continents of Aja and Aja Minor are referenced as being on Quentin IV. However, these two continents are not referenced in either Handbook: House Kurita or Dark Age: Republic Worlds (3130). As the latter is a more recent publication, it takes precedence.
 • Wolves on the Border marks the primary planet on Quentin as Quentin IV. The system's LinkNet article as found in Dark Age: Republic Worlds (3130) gives the main planet's position as 7 of 7, but this has expressly been declared an error in this ruling on the official BattleTech Forum
