Unit Description

The Raiders were a usual battalion size mercenary company, best known for their services in the Magistracy of Canopus with its family links to the ruling family there.

History

Early Times and Succession Wars

The Ramilie Raiders were formed from previous remains of other mercenary units during early days of the Third Succession War. The unit had been service with both the Federated Suns and the Capellan Confederation over course of the war into the second decade of thirty-first century. By 3022, Colonel Newton Ramilie had inherited his father's command becoming its second commanding officer. The Raiders had broken with Capellens multiple times in the past, due to problems with Chancellor Maximilian Liao. Major Ramilie felt it was time quit Liao space permanently. As the unit leaving, the unit stop only once during their "escape" from Liao Space, to raid a supply depot. Snatching Liao supplies label the unit as pirates and a bounty was set on their heads as they head to the Periphery. During their escape, the unit "accquired" a Liao owned Invader Class JumpShip.[1]

In Service of the Magistracy of Canopus

Entering service with the Canopians, the unit was utilized as a reaction force. At the time, they were considered reliable and hardcore elite MechWarriors.

Jihad

The Raiders were under contract to the Fronc Reaches when the Jihad began, but they broke their contract when they learned of events on Canopus.[2] In August 3071, the Raiders dropped on Canopus in an attempt to recover Emma Centrella and Hadji Doru. Though they faced elements of the 41st Shadow Division they were able to get Senior General Hadji Doru off the world.[3] Although successful in extracting Doru from Canopus, by the 30th of August the Raiders had been destroyed.[4][5] A few survivors of the desperate mission on Canopus apparently managed to escape alongside the members of the Canopus underground they had saved with their action.[2]
