Planetary History

Colonization & Rise of the Sandoval family

The planet was first settled by colonists from the First Terran Exodus, who were attracted by its rich black soil and pleasant living conditions. The majority of the land's early settlers were farmers who soon discovered the world was rich in mineral and oil deposits. However, off planet corporations seeking to exploit the mineral wealth soon arrived and came into conflict with the farmers, who had already claimed the majority of the planet's available land. The resulting political crisis fueled by conflicts with major mining concerns in the Terran Hegemony led to the collapse of the planetary government. The Robinson planetary militia commander, David Sandoval, stepped forward and took control of the failed government.[1] Declaring himself "Lord Protector", he seized the foreign companies' assets and lands to stabilize the situation. He forged a land-reform bill which shifted control of all land transactions to his new government. This resulted in the Sandoval family becoming incredibly rich. Though new policies eventually came into place to weaken this arrangement, the Sandoval family would eventually become the planet's ruling nobility.[56]

Founding of the Federated Suns & Davion Civil War

With the founding of the Federated Suns, Robinson became one of the five seats of power under House Davion. Robinson became the capital world of the Terran March, one of five Marches within the Federated Suns; the Princes of the Terran March were members of the Leighton family until Prince Charles Leighton and his family were killed in 2515[57] in a raid by the Hegemony Armed Forces.[58][59] As a result of political maneuverings within the Council of Regents General Nikolai Rostov, one of the Federated Suns' most celebrated military leaders and serving member of the Council of Regents, was named Prince of the Terran March.[57]

Nikolai Rostov would continue to serve as Prince and then later as First Marshal while Robinson and the Terran March saw invasions from first the Terran Hegemony and then the Draconis Combine between his election in 2515 and the outbreak of civil war in 2524. Nikolai Rostov lead the forces of the Terran March in conjunction with the Draconis March forces led by Laura Davion on an assault into the Capellan March in an attempt to remove Cassandra Davion and David Varnay from power, sparking the civil war. When Nikolai Rostov was killed in battle on Quitticas, his son Dmitri became Prince of the Terran March.[60]

Dmitri led the Terran March forces in support of First Prince Alexander Davion initially,[61] fighting against the Varnays forces in the Capellan March and then Laura Davion's forces in the Draconis March.[62] With the defeat of the Varnays and Laura Davion, Alexander Davion began to restructure the political layout of the Federated Suns; Dmitri Rostov openly opposed Alexander's reforms, culminating in Dmitri leading the military forces of the Terran March against Alexander in battle and a botched attempt to kidnap Cynthia Davion that saw Alexander's wife killed. The net result was a massive military response from Alexander which ended with a battle on Robinson in November 2540 in which Alexander killed Dmitri.[63] The Terran March was abolished soon after when Alexander reorganized the Federated Suns into just three Marches and Robinson became the capital of the new Draconis March.[64]

First Succession War

Robinson was invaded during the first half of the major invasion into the Federated Suns launched by the Draconis Combine in May 2787.[14] Robinson was liberated by the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns in 2814 as part of the third and final major AFFS counter-offensive of the First Succession War against the Draconis Combine.[15]

Second Succession War

During the Second Succession War Robinson was a number of worlds assaulted by the Draconis Combine in 2840 as part of a Combine plan to freeze AFFS forces in a contested area of the border between the two realms. A large raid was sent against Robinson in order to try and draw off Davion forces, but the assault was quickly repelled and had little effect in misdirecting the Federated Suns forces. [20]

During the Marathon Offensive of Miyogi Kurita in the 2850s the Suns lost only one world to the Draconis Combine, Robinson, but it was an symbol to the people of the Federated Suns. The Coordinator led 4 of his best 'Mech units (Sword of Light) against 3 defending Davion 'Mech regiments on the planet. The invasion was early decided because the DCMS had attacked Kentares IV simultaneously with Robinson and the Federation High Command have no reserve units available as reinforcements. The AFFS retreated off-world and swore to came back.[65]

The planet lost portions of its rich soil to heavy mining during this period, limiting its ability to feed itself. However, its exports of raw materials allowed construction of Dropships & JumpShips, making the world wealthy and able to afford food imports. Following the fall of the Star League, House Kurita forces invaded and occupied the world for a number of decades. As a result, Robinson suffered a prolonged period of starvation and the destruction of many of its heavy industries. Only in the thirty-first century has the planet's economic wealth been restored.

By the end of the Succession Wars Robinson was the center of Judaism within the Federated Suns.[1]

Jihad

In January 3071 the Word of Blake attacked Robinson;[44][45] and it would be more than a year before Robinson was liberated at the hands of a joint Com Guard-AFFS force. Robinson was finally free on the 2nd of February 3072.[46][47] Luckily for the Draconis March - and the Federated Suns as a whole - the decision by the Word of Blake to make use of Robinson Standard BattleWorks, combined with quick thinking and action on the part of the liberating forces prevented the complete destruction of the manufacturing facilities.[66]

Post-Jihad Era

In 3079 Robinson was still recovering from the Jihad; the Robinson Standard Battleworks plant had less than half of its production lines operating, while the Robinson Battle Academy, also located in the city of Tiberias, was being rebuilt in underground concrete bunkers.[2] While the Robinson Battle Academy suffered heavy damage during the Jihad and had yet to reconstitute its training battalion,[67] the Combat Training Centre in Osis Minor on Solomon was still operating, training students via its Infantry, Battle Armor, Conventional Armor and Conventional Fighter training programs. [68]

Dark Age

The planet was attacked by the Draconis Combine some time in 3144 and was conquered by the invading forces.[69]

Notes

Handbook: House Davion lists the years of 2879 and 2891 as the year that Robinson is reclaimed by the Federated Suns. Based on supporting information within the sourcebook, 2891 appears to be the correct year. House Kurita (The Draconis Combine) also lists the date as 2891.
