Sakhara Academy is widely regarded as one of the best in the Federated Suns. Founded in 2613 by retired Star League officers, for many years it was open to anyone who could afford the tuition.[2]

General[edit]

Founded by former Star League Defense Force officers as a private military academy,[2] Sakhara Academy managed to avoid the political bickering between the Federated Suns and the Star League between the end of the War of Davion Succession and the beginning of the Amaris Civil War. Sakhara Academy was noted for turning out graduates of the highest caliber who were eligible to serve in either the SLDF or the Armed Forces of the Federated Suns, and nearly every army within the Star League included graduates from Sakhara among its numbers.[3] From the founding of the Star League until at least as late as 2765 Sakhara Academy maintained a closer relationship with the Fourth Robinson Chevaliers, in part because of the Fourth's long association with Sakhara V during this era. It became traditional for elements of the Fourth - if available - to act as the opposing force in the exercises conducted by the graduating class of each year.[4]

During the First Succession War the students and staff of the Academy repelled three separate attacks by the Third Sword of Light. At that time the school had approximately six regiments of students in training. Over the course of the Succession Wars, enrollment dropped until in 3025 the Academy only graduates approximately eighty students a year, divided evenly among MechWarriors, aerospace pilots, armor commanders and infantry officers.[2]

For a small academy, privately run and financed, Sakhara Academy turned out near-perfect soldiers. The cadets of the institution are the children of former graduates, and sometimes entire generations of a family attend Sakhara. The academy has access to advanced training equipment, largely as a result of extensive gifts from private corporations and the families of various alumni. High tuition fees and financial support from former graduates ensure the continued existence of the Sakhara Academy.[5]

In 3079, Sakhara Academy continued to train the MechWarriors, aerospace pilots, and armor and infantry officers as it was known for, but also added a new course to train battle armor infantry, although the first class wasn't due to graduate until 3081.[1]

Dark Age[edit]

This expensive, privately run academy in Davion space continues to turn out superior troops. Though House Davion continues to get the lion‘s share of graduates, some continue to peddle their acquired skills elsewhere. With the return of aggressions, many families are doing their best to find the money required to send family members to Sakhara Academy in hopes of helping them find a comfortable life in the military.[6]

Although it remains a private institution, House Davion's aggressive rearmament has induced Sakhara Academy to open its doors to a wider variety of students. Although this has disrupted the balance of the student body, taking away from the family feel of the school, it has also led to a richer experience for its students, which shows in the battlefield skills of the Academy‘s graduates.[7]

Atmosphere[edit]

The entrance is reserved for richest families or who have considerable political influence. The community of former and actual members form a close circle, they see themselves as a elite. For example, when a student has problems, the other cadets watch him and help him.[5]

Special Notes[edit]

Graduates enter service in the Academy training unit at the rank of leftenants. The next 24 months they are part of a proud unit.[5]
