Planetary History[edit]

Smithon was a part of the Sian Commonality of the Capellan Confederation and was one of the border worlds adjacent to the Taurian Concordat during the Star League era. Smithon is located near Umgard and Tyrlon and vanished from maps during the Second Succession War.[9][12]

Smithon is a cold, arid world with poor soil. The SLDF Corps of Engineers built underground fortresses and armories in Smithon's canyons, and weapons batteries around them for defense. These later were occupied by the Capellan Confederation, and when the Capellans withdrew from region, the fortresses became subterranean cities and the home of House Karosas. The population is sustained by agroponic farming, with water supplied by a large water-purification installation at the north ice cap.[1]

In 2870, House Karosas joined with the noble houses of Coromodir, Guldra, Itrom, and Tyrlon to create the Aurigan Trade Partnership. In 2910, this transformed to the Aurigan Coalition, with the Karosas family on the Founding Council.[32]

The apocryphal BattleTech (Video Game) has Anvelt, "The First Moon of Smithon", as home to mining operations. It was on this moon that mercenaries under orders from Kamea Arano destroyed the Newgrange (Individual Union-class DropShip), killing the son of Commodore Samuel Ostergaard. During this same battle, the mercenaries captured Victoria Espinosa.[33]

Note: in the House Arano (The Aurigan Coalition) sourcebook, Smithon is explicitly noted as having no moons.[1]

Planetary Rulers[edit]

House Karosas ruled Smithon until they were wiped out during the Restoration War.[34] Their role was taken up by the Planetary Governor of Smithon who also served as a pro tem member of the Founding Council.[35]
