Description
The SneakSat Communication Satellite is a small communications satellite deployed by the military of the Lyran Commonwealth. Produced by Nashan Diversified, the SneakSat was a competitor to the D40 Communication Satellite. The vehicle was to be an easy-to-deploy communications relay for military forces on the ground, while providing encryption, making it difficult for enemies to disrupt.
The satellite was designed to reduce its visual appearance while giving it longer life in operations, while produced for less than the cost of the D40. Due to its attributes, the satellite became popular among the Lyran military officers when it was first introduced.[1][2]
Equipment and Capabilities
As a military satellite, the designers of the SneakSat wanted to make it difficult to be detected in orbit. One of the banes of previous military satellites was that they were powered by solar sails, which lure enemy forces to their presence. Nashan engineers installed a small 250 kilogram fusion reactor to power the satellite and keep its presence less noticeable. Built on an ultra-light chassis, the SneakSat main piece of equipment is its 1 ton worth of Communication Equipment. As a trade off for its low profile to enemy forces, the SneakSat virtually is unarmored and only has 15 kilograms worth of cargo space.[1][2]
