As with any language, new words and new meanings for old words develop in response to current events and technology. The MechWarrior games have spawned many slang expressions peculiar to Solaris. Those considered "hip" and part of the "in crowd" like to use the following phrases in their almost-constant discussions of the latest, and upcoming, duels.

- Arrowhead
- Aerospace pilot[1]
B
- Birdies
- derogatory slang for M-Bills[2]
- Blood pit
- Small, undistinguished 'Mech arena, usually outside of Solaris City[1]
C
- Chaos Mode

- A union of some MechWarriors coming together to provide mutual support to each other.
- Cookies
- derogatory slang for L-Bills[2]

- Dead Zone
- Anywhere where nothing is going on. In reference to person, suggests stupidity[1]
- Divorce Court
- The Federated Commonwealth. A reference to the state of relations between Houses Steiner and Davion during the split of the nations[1]
- DOA
- A clearly outmatched MechWarrior[1]
F
- Farmer
- One who pilots a "Tractor" (see below)[1]
- Federat
- Slang term for a citizen of the Federated Suns[4]
- Fighting Stable - A Stable is owned by a wealthy patron who provides all the necessary support for his gladiators
- Frakker
- All-purpose epithet, along the lines of "dipstick" and "lamebrain"[1]
- Fringer
- Anyone from the outlands, i.e., not a resident of the five major sectors[1]
G
- Ghost
- An undercover agent for a Successor State, criminal cartel, or corporation[2]
- Gremlin
- A thug working for a crime syndicate[2]
H
- Headhunter
- Derogatory term for a MechWarrior who seems to favor killing his opponents[2]
- Hillies
- Davionists from the Black Hills sector[2]
- Hitman
- A MechWarrior who enjoys injuring or killing his opponents. After Hitman Hirsch, the first major 'Mech champion[2]
J
- Jack in the box
- MechWarrior who favors jumping from behind cover to fire down on his opponents[2]
K
- Knievel
- A reckless or glory-hungry MechWarrior who takes unnecessary risks[2]
M
- Mayflies
- Young MechWarriors who advance too quickly to high-level competition, only to be defeated and forgotten[2]
- Mechbunny
- A somewhat derogatory term for fans who enjoy associating with MechWarriors. Both male and female Mechbunnies exist[2]
- Mittens
- derogatory slang for S-Bills[2]
N
- No-hitter
- A dull 'Mech fight, particularly one in which no weapon hits are scored[2]
P
- Peeker
- An individual who comes to watch the 'Mech games but does not bet[2]
- Pinball Machine
- A particularly flashy or extensively modified BattleMech[2]
- Pinball Wizard
- A highly skilled 'Mech tech. Also simply "Wird"[2]
R
- Rackit
- To overheat a 'Mech, specifically when all the weapons are fired in an all-or-nothing shot at a quick victory. Also, to push anything to its absolute limit[2]
- Rats
- The inhabitants of the slums of the Black Hills and Cathay[2]
- Romans
- Also called Silesians. A reference to the Roman-inspired Steiner Stadium[2]

- Sawbones
- A cheap 'Mech repairman[2]
- Scavs
- Scrap merchants who deal in wrecked BattleMechs[2]
- Scrappers
- Montenegrans. A reference to the numerous pieces of wrecked buildings and scrap metal scattered around the quarter[2]
- Scrip
- derogatory slang for Solaris Scrip (Solaris' own currency). Value fluctuates widely (it can be worth 1% of it's theoretical C-bill to it's 100% rate). Also called teep (see below).[2]
- Seat-filler
- A low-class MechWarrior recruited at the last minute to fill up a fight card[2]
- Shivs
- derogatory slang for D-Bills[2]
- Silesians
- A reference to the Roman-inspired Steiner Stadium[2]
- Snakes
- derogatory slang for K-Bills.[2] This word in most places is a derogatory name for any Kuritan born[citation needed]
- Spinner
- A flamboyant MechWarrior given to fanciful moves and maneuvers; usually applied to light 'Mech pilots[2]
- Splitter
- A MechWarrior who fights in the arenas solely as a means of hooking up with a mercenary unit or finding work elsewhere[2]
T
- Teep
- derogatory slang for Solaris Scrip (Solaris' own currency).Sounds like initials T.P. (a reference to the lower-end quality of the currency).[2]
- Timey
- A MechWarrior past his prime. See Zombie.
- Toilet Paper
- Solaris scrip[2]
- Tractor
- A worthless or badly designed 'Mech such as the CGR-1A1 Charger[2], or the converse, a warrior who is unworthy of his BattleMech.[5]
- Tumor
- An upper-class Solaran. In some circles, a "healthy tumor" refers to a dead upper-class Solaran[2]
U
- Ugly
- A vicious or particularly violent 'Mech battle[2]
V
- Vampire
- A 'Mech broker[2]
W
- Wizard
- A particularly successful or talented technician. See Pinball Wizard[2]
- WrenchWarrior
- Battlemech technician[2]
- Wannabes
- Pretender mechwarriors with no real experience
Z
- Zombie
- A burned-out or washed-up MechWarrior who continues to fight (perhaps hoping to be killed in the arena). See Timey[2]
