Formation

Originally called Sung's Cuirassiers on their homeworld Detroit, the regiment has the distinction being one of the few Capellan Regiments to be destroyed and rebuilt stronger than it was originally.[1]

History

In 2668 the unit was sent on a raid against the House Marik world of Xanthe III. The target was supposed to be a lightly defended repair depot. Yet due to intelligence failures of the Maskirovka agents in field, the Cuirassiers encountered elements of the Marik Protectorate Guard. The unit's dropzones were overwhelmed with a large number of heavy and assault class BattleMechs. Only two companies of the Cuirassiers survived the failed raid.[1]

Durring 2761 the unit was reformed and re-equipped again. The Cuirassiers were used in the occupation of the world of Lee where they faced off with House Davion's Syrtis Fusiliers. The Cuirassiers were successful in the use of their Jump Troops to inflict moderate damage against the Davion troops.[1]

Between 2890 and 2910 the unit was used in a series of clashes with House Kurita.[1]

While conducting a raid against the Davion world of Bristol in 2915. the unit overshot their designated drop zones. These errors caused numerous personal and equipment loses which lead to its near destruction yet again. Only a few companies managed to rally, but were they quickly contained by Bristol's Militia.[1]

They were rebuilt yet again in 2978 and successfully seized the world of Mesartim from House Davion.[1]

In 2999, the unit was overwhelmed on Ingersoll by Marik Aerospace Forces.[1]

Fourth Succession War

In 3029 the entire regiment is stationed on Wei when House Davion invaded the world, dropping multiple regiments on the unit's positions.[2] The 12th Vegan Rangers were assigned to take the world by the AFFS. During this assault, the Cuirassiers used chemical weapons several times. After losing two battalions, the unit was forced to abandon Wei.[3]

Andurien/Canopus Invasion

Reduced to two battalions during the 4th Succession War, the Cuirassers were rebuilt and garrisoned Gei-Fu and Harloc during the Andurien Wars.[4]

Operation Guerrero

Operation Bulldog

Xin Sheng Campaign

In mid-3060s, the Rangers finished their assignment of defending Detroit for the Confederation against the forces of the Magistracy of Canopus.[5] The unit was to return home to Victoria but was called into action with the emergence of a new pirate state. The Fronc Reaches began to threaten the Trinity Alliance. Pirate bands such as the Calderon Commandos began raiding Taurian-controlled space. The Rangers fought a few skimishes on the world of Hellespont and other locations. Having difficulties trying to narrow down aims of the Commandos, the Chancellor sent aid in form of his own Death Commandos. The Fronc Reaches government tired of the raiding as well and closed its borders, limiting the Commandos's movement. This allowed the Rangers return to Victoria.[6]

As the Rangers returned home, the unit was forced to re-organize to cover both the Free Worlds League and Federated Suns borders. The unit was to split its presence between both Victoria and Decatur. Since Marshigama's Legionnaires mauling, the Rangers were left to hold the borders on its own as of 3067.[6]

Jihad

In December 3068, Sung's Rangers were stationed on Victoria when a recently hired mercenary unit, Olson's Rangers turned their guns against the Shengli Arms Corporation - which Sung's Rangers were charged to defend. After inflicting significant damage, Sung's Rangers attempted to dislodge the renegade mercenary unit. However, Olson's Rangers managed to escape them by hijacking a nearby civilian DropShip. Sung's aerospace assets, Sung's Air Raiders, joined with the Victoria Home Guard's aerospace fighters and attempted to stop them from escaping, but they too met with failure.[7]

Sung's Rangers then broke up into battalion-sized groups and protected the Capellan-Periphery border for the next ten years. They successfully repelled several attacks by the Taurian Concordat as well as several pirate groups. They performed so well that the commander of the Victoria Commonality Rangers is considering petitioning for each battalion to form the core of a regimental battle group once Capellan factories are back on-line. Sung's Rangers remain separated into battalions, with one each on Ward, New Roland, and Renown.[8]

The Dark Age

The collapse of the Trinity Alliance caused the two companies of Taurian MechWarriors in the Rangers to suffer from conflicted loyalties; two lances-worth of Taurian personnel left, but the remainders chose to stay with the Rangers throughout the Jihad, and were awarded Capellan citizenship.[9]

In the mid-3080s the First Battalion of the Rangers was on New Roland when they encountered what they believed to be pirate forces; those pirates actually turned out to be Word of Blake forces, and those forces were attempting to use a chemical weapon against the city of Maine. The Ranger detachment - led by Zang-shao Steven Sung - ignored the damage the Blakists inflicted on them, moving to block the Blakist path to the city and destroying the vehicle carrying the chemical weapon.[9]

In 3085 the main body of the Rangers was stationed on the world of Yuris,[10] but the Rangers' commanding officer, Sang-shao Jason Harris, was continually deploying battalions of the Rangers offworld on bandit-hunting missions.[9]

Sung's Rangers raided Sirdar in 3110. They suffered losses inflicted by the Sirdar CMM but were able to withdraw from the world.[11] They would make up these losses thirty-five years later when they attacked Taygeta along with the 3rd McCarron's Armored Cavalry. There they inflicted heavy damage on the Ridgebrook CMM and 5th Crucis Lancers.[12]

During the Victoria War they were among the first wave of CCAF reinforcements. They fought the 3rd Federated Suns Lancers briefly, and later after more CCAF reinforcements arrived they tried to hit the Third Lancers in the flank. However the Lancers were alerted to the assault, and the Rangers lost half their force. The heavy losses suffered by this unit forced them to join with the survivors of Kingston's Rangers.[13] The Rangers were later escorted off of Victoria by the 5th Capellan Defense Force, where they spent the rest of the Victoria War.[14]

Officers

As part of a deal struck when the Cuirassiers still belonged to the Chesterton Reserves, the Sung family is entitled to hereditary command positions in the unit. However, regimental and battalion commands are still determined based on skill by the CCAF. Part of this bargain also insures that the unit only retains the "Sung" name as long as one member of the Sung line is serving. The Sung family also presents a new BattleMech to the commanding officer, whether they are related or not, every year. [15]

As of 3025, the commanding officer was Colonel Kevin Sung.[1]

As of 3050 to 3054, the commanding officer was Colonel Andrea Sung.[16][17]

As of 3063 to 3085 the commanding officer was Sang-shao Jason Harris.[5][18][10]
