Not a very good article yet, but a start. Although I played it, I remembered virtually nothing of the story from CHR so I reckon the article needs some serious work by somebody with a better memory. I am fairly sure that the Crescent Hawks became part of the Kell Hounds but I may be wrong. Similarly, I seem to recall Jason Youngblood being mentioned in one novel somewhere, in connection with the Kell Hounds even. May have been the wedding ceremony on Terra, or the Dragoon meeting on Outreach when they announced their Clan origin. Don't have the books anymore. Frabby 15:10, 5 December 2007 (CST)

'Mechs in the first game

At the time I added this, there was a mention that there is a rare chance to get the Spider and the Javelin on the game "Crescent Hawks Inception". I've seen the content of the exe file of the game and it doesn't include those two 'mechs. I'm not sure if there were any other versions of the game, but you can't see or get any other 'mech besides the Locust, Wasp, Stinger, Commando, Urbie, Jenner, and Chameleon.

Thanks for the heads-up. I have updated the article accordingly. Frabby 13:46, 9 October 2008 (CDT)
Well, found people on the CBT forum [1] claiming they saw/had a Javelin or Spider in the C64 version of the game so I am including this again. Frabby 17:16, 14 October 2008 (CDT)
I can confirm that both the Javelin and the Spider were available for the C64 version of the "Crescent Hawks Inception" game since i owned the game and had played it often. They were rare machines in the game however, you could end up playing hours till you found a chance encounter with one . Also, i would also the note, that Crescent Hawks were reactivated in the Jihad by the Kell Hounds. Jason's son is now in command. I don't know enough about the reformed unit to comment on its compents other than their using a 7K Phoenix Hawk that was originally Jason's and a Awesome in the command lance. -- Wrangler 18:09, 5 May 2009 (PDT)
Yes, this article is a bit outdated now as new information has popped up. There is at least one BattleCorps story about the Crescent Hawks operating in the Jihad timeline under Jason's son (named Jeremiah after his grandfather). I also recall that I saw an article somewhere on WizKids homepage but haven't been able to find it again (I hate this chaotic page - lots of good stuff but no chance to actually find it...). It mentioned something about the Crescent Hawks being under the command of Akira Brahe (or his son), and deployed aboard three Leopards. Frabby 23:32, 5 May 2009 (PDT)
Akira Brahe assumed command of the Kell Hounds when Daniel Allard was killed in combat. Since the Crescent Hawks are component unit of the Kell Hounds. Brahe would be their commanding officer, but not direct officer. Company Commander would be Captain Jeremiah Youngblood. I believe, since re-activating as independant company, worked for other people but are ultimately still part of the Kell Hounds. -- Wrangler 11:29, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

Mercenary status

I do not agree with the recent edits by 60.49.108.30 who altered the notion that the Crescent Hawks can aribtrarily be regarded as a Merc unit and suggested a mistake on behalf of the game designers. (I also disagree with the style of the edit, as the section now reads more like a forum discussion entry rather than a wiki article, but that is a minor point really.) In an attempt to adress that editor's points:

  • The original Crescent Hawks from the game's backstory were indeed a (irregular) Lyran military unit. But they were already inactive when the first game's storyline began.
  • Jason Youngblood was a Cadet in the Lyran Armed Forces, i.e. a Lyran soldier and ultimately answerable to the Archon. When Katrina Steiner appears at the end of the first game, she offers to promote Jason to Lieutenant but he declines because he wants to search for his father. For this, the Archon gives him command of the Crescent Hawks. Still a irregular military unit (much like the 1st Somerset Strikers, for example).
  • After the Crescent Hawks have managed the feat of rescuing Jeremiah Youngblood, Jason is promoted to Captain and then he and his unit are discharged from Lyran service with permission to join the Kell Hounds mercenary unit (the Kell brothers are family to the Archon, and utterly loyal). Morgan Kell accepts the Crescent Hawks into the Kell Hounds, and from that point onwards the Crescent Hawks positively are mercenaries.
  • In the game narrative, it is mentioned how Hanse Davion used the Crescent Hawks in the War of 3039, which pretty much confirms their mercenary status.

(The above all referenced in the article's History section, including verbatim citations of what Katrina Steiner and Morgan Kell said.)

  • There are BattleCorps stories and scenarios depicting the Crescent Hawks as mercs as of the Jihad. (I need to update the article with these.)
  • Finally, there was something on the WizKids site describing how former Kell Hound member Akira Brahe (or his son) had assumed command of the Crescent Hawk company in the Dark Age era, clearly describing them as mercs. Unfortunately I can't find it anymore.

I've asked the aforementioned editor to take part in this discussion. I think you've raised some well-reasoned answers to his concerns. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:21, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

A minor point: In the "Equipment" section, third paragraph, it states "...although a Shadow Hawk is not actually available for selection in the Crescent Hawks' Revenge game." I believe the author here tried to indicate that a Shadow Hawk was not available at the beginning of the game, but the wording seems to indicate that the Shadow Hawk was never available at any point. It certainly was available, in two different variants. User:RichLongess

I'm not going to get into the whole canon debate issue, as it has been done to death. In the novel BLOOD LEGACY, they are directly cited, and while it has been a while since I read it, I read it that by that point, the Crescent Hawks were a direct part of the Kell Hounds at that point. I would presume, after they lost the entire battalion of Kell Hounds to the Clans on The Rock, that the Crescent Hawks would have been immediately tapped and brought up to full battalion status to fill in that part of the organization.
