Talk:MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries

Prequel or Sequel[edit]

I'm pretty sure this game came out after MW2 and MW2:GBL. This page says it was a "prequal" to MW2. If I remember correctly, I heard that Activision was granted a license to make a game called MechWarrior 2, and they squeezed this license to make essentially three games by calling them all "Mechwarrior 2", and that "Mercenaries" was the last one they were able to do this with. — The preceding unsigned comment was posted by ‎RichLongess (talkcontribs) .

You're correct on it being a sequel. I don't know about the licensing stuff, but MechWarrior 2 came first, followed by its expansion pack Ghost Bear's Legacy, and then the game engine was used again (slightly refined I think) for MW2: Mercenaries. Thanks for pointing this out. I'll go and update the article. Frabby (talk) 12:32, 12 November 2014 (PST)

Lossless soundtrack?[edit]

Hello, would it possible for someone to add a lossless, say flac, version of the soundtrack? --Hjod (talk) 09:11, 17 September 2016 (PDT)

Not legally, no. I reckon it would amount to straight piracy, because I can't see how putting the soundtrack up for download would be covered by even the "Fair Use" doctrine. Remember that everything is copyrighted to its respective author; and unless explicitly released into the public domain by the author (in the form of a self-written wiki article, for example), reproducing it infringes on that copyright - irrespective of wether or not the wronged copyright owner is aware of it, or can be bothered to take legal action. There is no such thing as "Abandonware" in a legal sense either, that term merely describes the hope that the copyright owner(s) will not take legal action. Frabby (talk) 03:40, 18 April 2018 (EDT)

Lost transcript[edit]

There is one particular quote that seems to have been lost from the mission transcripts. I was wondering if anyone here recognized it; "Well done, welp. You have successfully displayed the ability to do what I tell you to do. I like that. My dog does what I tell it to. I like my dog. I should introduce you to eachother. Remind me to do that."

If anyone can figure out where this one goes, let me know. ~Amaroq Starwind~ (talk) 02:06, 18 April 2018 (EDT)

I do remember that quote! I think it's associated with Sgt. Unther. Frabby (talk) 03:40, 18 April 2018 (EDT)
