Nova and Non-Heat Tracking Units[edit]

I thought I remembered the Nova CEWS being able to be put on units that didn't track heat (such as Combat Vehicles and ProtoMechs), but turning them into Heat Tracking Units when you did so (and in the case of ProtoMechs, giving them bonus heat sinks to compensate). Was I thinking of a different item, or am I just going completely crazy? ~Amaroq Starwind~ (talk)

Per Interstellar Operations, page 219, Nova CEWS can be mounted in BattleMechs, Combat Vehicles, Support Vehicles, AeroSpace Fighters and Small Craft. It specifies on page 67 that the system generates +2 heat when turned on, and can only be installed on units with Fusion Enginers. Wars of Reaving contains the same rule set for the Nova CEWS, and I'm not aware of the rules having been published outside those two sourcebooks. Per the combat vehicle rules, vehicles must be constructed with enough heat sinks to deal with all of the heat generated by their equipment, so a fusion-powered vehicle mounting a CEWS would need to have 2 heat sinks installed to deal with the heat. AeroSpace Fighters, 'Mechs and Small Craft are already units that have to track heat. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 19:53, 23 March 2018 (EDT)
