Credibility

How and where was this ship built? Steel Viper had no capability or technical experience to build a warship. After reading the Wars of Reaving book, Im not sure the writers used much from previous books, they just made stuff up. Xeen

Making stuff up is the privilege of the writers - welcome to the concept of FASAnomics. :) Seriously, as far as I recall the Vipers built an entire secret shipyard somewhere specifically to build this ship. They probably didn't need much technical experience to build either the dock or the vessel since they were working from existing blueprints, and the economics of BattleTech are wonky enough to assume they did, indeed, have the skilled laborers and resources to pull this off. They probably bartered away an enclave or fought some trials over stuff. It was a high-priority project for an entire Clan after all. The Ghost Bears built three of these, and even modified the specs in the process twice. If they can, the Vipers can, too.

That said, you're right in that the article should probably provide more information on the how and where of the vessel's construction. I'll see if I can find the bits I remember and update the article accordingly with references to go with it. Frabby (talk) 01:32, 18 July 2013 (PDT)

Wars of Reaving page 40 (Preening the Scales insert) talks about the Zalman being built "under the noses of the Wolves and Coyotes" in a distant drydock using "the technological breakthroughs of our scientist and technician castes" - the speaker being the Steel Viper Loremaster, Arthur Stoklas. I thought there was something in WoR that indicated which system the hidden shipyard was in, but I'm not finding it with a quick search. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 04:05, 18 July 2013 (PDT)

Thanks for the response guys. I guess we shouldnt get too much into the discussion here, but the Ghost Bears had complete help with the initial project from Snow Raven. Which they also got the specs from for the finished Battleship. Of course, they have the privilege as writers, but use what has been written to expand on. From thin air just doesnt jive lol.
