I really don't want to sound negative, but my feeling is that this article does not belong here. Afaik, Seppuku/Hara-kiri in the BattleTech universe is no different from its real-world historical form. And it is not an important or special aspect in BattleTech to warrant its own article: The only other noteworthy case besides Yorinaga Kurita seems to be Minobu Tetsuhara (see the article about Wolf's Dragoons). On this premise, the Japanese tea-ceremony as performed by Omi Kurita in one book would also warrant its own article...

As it stands, my suggestion would be to link to regular wikipedia for the seppuku ritual as such, and note the in-universe practice in some suitable article about House Kurita, the Draconis Combine, the DCMS and/or the people in question. Frabby 13:54, 21 September 2007 (CDT)

There's definitely some validity in what you mention. What I did notice was that several articles referenced seppuku directly. The intent was more to provide an overview and then give the link to the main Wiki site. The same goes for Bushido, which has a place in the BTech universe, but is described much more fully in Wiki itself. Bdevoe 13:57, 21 September 2007 (CDT)
Seppuku stays. It's so much easier to link to this article when creating another than to explain the intricacies of the ritual within an article. Other notable characters who enacted seppuku are Takashi Kurita and Theodore Kurita's wife Tomoe Sakade. I'm sure if you look through Draconis Combine, you'll find plenty of other, less notable cases. Five pages already link here, so kudos for stepping up and writing an article that needed to be written. Scaletail 13:57, 25 September 2007 (CDT)
Thanks for the kudos. I'll keep them in the special jar I have for them. ;) I had noticed both seppuku and bushido weren't provided. The intent was just to give an overview of both (although I may have gone into a bit more detail on bushido than I intended) while still providing links to the regular, more in-depth, Wiki articles on the topics. And, that I think of it, to Frabby's original point, perhaps a brief (and I mean very brief) description about the tea ceremony might be desirable. Especially as it orients a player within the universe - how important is the ceremony? What kind of honor does it show the recipient? While an in-depth analysis and history of it certainly isn't worthwhile here (and has been done elsewhere), it does play a role with the Draconis Combine culture. Anyway - just some more fodder for discussion. Bdevoe 18:23, 25 September 2007 (CDT)

Good article! I'd say, keep it. Its so deeply embedded in Draconian society that I feel its okay to add this "out of universe" information to this wiki. Also, its a precise and simple article not referring to general history but staying close to the BT-subject. As for the tea ceremony, what about a short general description and a larger section about it being performed in space as described in Assumption of Risk? Just to give it the right BT-universe angle... RagTag 08:38, 16 April 2010 (UTC)
