The Good Fight is a short story by Jason M. Hardy that was published online on BattleCorps on 7 March 2007 as the seventh installment in the Case White series. It was later also published in print in the fourth BattleCorps anthology, Fire for Effect, in 2013.
Although it is technically a stand-alone story, the protagonist previously appeared in the story Backroads at Night.
“ | The Com Guard is scattered. Across Earth, units are landing and gathering with no semblance of their original selves. Yet the ComStar warriors know they have to get it together, have to work in teams they've never met before. Because Terra is still held by the Word, and it's time to fight the good fight. | ” |
Plot summary
Having fought his way to Riga after his unit's destruction in the initial landing, Com Guard MechWarrior Sorrin Buell joins the chaotic fighting there. Cut off from the main body, Buell finds himself in an ad hoc force that must push through the enemy lines. He manages the breakthrough on pure instinct, with his 'Mech essentially destroyed around him but still functional enough to carry him.
