“ | Newton's Three Laws of Motion are immutable outside hyperspace. Star Captain Herron knows this, and uses them to his advantage when piloting his Sabutai. To a Clanner, zellbrigen is equally immutable; however, others sometimes disagree... especially when they were removed from the Clans. | ” |
Plot summary
Star Captain Herron of the Sukhanov Bloodline duels with four Dark Caste Tomahawk aerospace fighters after managing to escape the destruction of the Union-C-class DropShip Carrion Swoop. While the Tomahawk's motherships - a pair of heavily-modified Leopards - scavenge the remains of the Carrion Swoop, Herron attempts to defeat his opponents and survive long enough for the Conqueror to reach him. Taunted by his opponents, Herron refuses to extend them the honor of zellbrigen, even as the most skilled of his opponents - himself, a former Clansman - declares that Herron's tactics would never have been allowed while he was still part of a Clan, and that Clan Snow Raven is clearly falling, just as the Ghost Bears and Nova Cats have already fallen.
