Toothpuller

Toothpuller was the name Melinda Carlyle gave her Panther BattleMech. Its serial number is DC1333-31D.[1] Carlyle was considered a notable Panther pilot by 3025, known for her habit of actively hunting down enemy Panthers (hers being one of the few operating outside of the Draconis Combine at the time).[2]

As of her 3007 deployment to Rochelle as a mercenary working for House Marik, where she was among those who fought their way to the starport to escape a possible confiscation of their 'Mechs over a contract dispute, her 'Mech was a standard PNT-9R Panther.[3] By 3025, when she was a member of Hansen's Roughriders, she kept "Toothpuller" painted pale green with yellow stripes.[2]

During a raid on Delacruz in 3038 the Roughriders encountered Sorenson's Sabres and Carlyle engaged the Panther of Seyla Theresa Martinez. Carlyle was killed in this fight and Martinez claimed Toothpuller as salvage to replace her own crippled 'Mech.[1]

There is no explicit mention of Martinez losing this particular 'Mech again after 3038, which seems to suggest Toothpuller was the Panther that she continued to pilot. As of 3049 it was still listed as a PNT-9R,[4] but by 3062 it was a PNT-12A model[5] and by 3070 a PNT-14S, suggesting that Toothpuller was repeatedly upgraded to new specs. (Sorenson's Sabres were known as a unit field-testing cutting edge prototype technologies during this period.)

Toothpuller served with Draconis Combine military forces in the Jihad Era. After being lost on Imbros III, it was later recovered by Stone's Coalition when they liberated that world from the Word of Blake, and from there came into the hands of the Republic's Skye Militia. In the Dark Age Era, it was used by Stormhammers MechWarrior Alissa Goldberg.[6] Although no alphanumerical model code is given, at this time Toothpuller - identified through its serial number - featured CASE, had been refitted with an Alshain 560-Carrier Endo Steel frame, and carried a Lord's Light 2 Extended-Range Particle Projector Cannon and a pair of Guided Technologies 2nd Gen Streak SRM-4 launchers; it was not specified whether it had standard or Double Heat Sinks. This non-standard configuration combines elements of the PNT-10K2 and PNT-12A models, which were devised as successive upgrades of the PNT-9R, but is notably different from the PNT-14S model.[6]
