Triads and Tongs

Overview

With their roots on Terra in the Asian region, the Triads and Tongs of today operate mainly in the Capellan Confederation or communities of Asian people. They are typically involved in drugs, prostitution, gambling and other similar businesses, operating on the wrong side of the law.

Tong and Triads have rigid organizational hierarchies: at the top level, leaders typically are willing to resort to violence on little or no provocation, and command a fanatically loyal membership. They are followed by incense masters, who control matters of internal discipline and cultural identity, and operations managers, who handle the day to day business of the group. Deputy leaders manage lesser organisations run by the operations managers, while the ground-level members are overseen by administrators and enforcers, and a liaison/recruitment officer handles internal communications and finding new members. Organizations tend to be very territorial, and disputes over such matters are handled in a deliberately visible show of force by street operatives, as are external threats.

Known Organizations

• Barren Tong, one of a number working on Aldebaran in the mid-3050s.
• Red Cobra Triad, a gang that operated on Solaris VII in the mid-3050s.
• Rostakov Tong, operating out of Nanxiang on Old Kentucky since at least the War of 3039.,
• O'Connor Tong, operating out of Clarkxiang on Old Kentucky.
• Yizhi Tong, active on Kittery in 3026.. Possibly synonymous with the 'Kittery Tong'.
