History

The origins of Tristram's Avengers lay in the sharp expansion in size of the Capellan Confederation Armed Forces following the repeal of the Council Edict of 2650 by the Star League council in 2752. The CCAF began expanding all of its various brigades at a rapid pace, increasing the size of the Chesterton Regulars with the addition of two newly-formed regiments between 2752 and 2765; one of those two regiments was Tristram's Avengers.[1]

By 2765 Tristram's Avengers were a full regiment in size, with a large percentage of the Avengers' personnel having been recruited under rather dubious circumstances, including the Commanding Officer of the regiment, Colonel Tristram Sterne. The Avengers recruited expatriate Chestertonians from Federated Suns space, freely allowing those expatriates to enlist under pseudonyms - the stated reason for doing so being that it was "to protect their kin back home from unjust retribution by Chesterton's illegal occupiers." This made the Avengers one of two regiments in the Chesterton regulars founded from expatriate Chestertonians, the other being the Ariana Grenadiers, and in both cases the Federated Suns had made demands for many of the enlisted personnel to be extradited back to the Federated Suns to face criminal charges.[1]

Officers

In 2765 the Commanding Officer of Tristram's Avengers was Colonel Tristram Sterne, although it was widely speculated that Sterne was in fact Lawrence Fenlon who had fled Federated Suns space after implicating his uncle, Duke Charles of Chesterton, in the murder of Lawrence's mother.[1]

In 2765 the Avengers were a regular regiment and were stationed on Conwy, but the Avengers were considered to be of questionable loyalty.[1]
