Overview:

The Word of Blake took much of ComStar's advanced-technology BattleMechs with them during the Schism, and ultimately set up shop on Gibson, deep within the Free Worlds League. The choice was a good one, considering the fact that the Clan invasion hastened the technological renaissance and put the League in prime position to supplant the Lyrans in sheer industrial might. It also meant the Blakists had access to the same technology that had made Star League-era 'Mechs such an invaluable prize throughout the Succession Wars. The Toyama splinter faction, ever-preparing for the chance to destroy the "heretics" who followed ComStar Primus Sharilar Mori, nonetheless conceded that the 'Mech taken with them in the schism would not be enough. More and newer machines, competitive with the surge in technological progress the Clan invasion sparked, would be needed if the followers of Blake were to take and seize what was rightfully theirs. But these 'Mechs should also hearken back to the glorious days when ComStar was not so fractured, when its warriors still held to the values of Blake and the vision of a new Star league under ComStar. The LeSabre is an example of that design mission, a 'Mech which brought to the fore the benefits of new technology while still showing the glorious look of the "old ways".

Capabilities:

The LeSabre was designed based on the specifications of two of the most recognizable 'Mechs in the Star League and the Succession Wars: the Thunderbolt and the Black Knight. Similarities to both 'Mechs can easily be seen in the LeSabre's configuration, which in fact is based on the skeleton of a modified TDR-7M chassis. The sleeker overall build and classical "knightly" head structure, combined with a BattleMech-scale rapier sword, met the psychological demands of the Blakists as the 'Mech obtained both a noble and a respectable appearance. The weapons array includes the same trio of medium lasers found on the original TDR, backed up by a shoulder mounted "tube-style" missile rack that also harkens back to the Free Worlds League favorite. For a long-range punch, the LeSabre features an Imperator light Gauss rifle, mounted on the left forearm. This weapon combines low waste heat with excellent range and punch, allowing the MechWarrior to blast enemies with steady, solid hits while closing to range for the other weapons. In an effort to make the LeSabre even more fearsome, however, Blakist engineers also added triple-strength myomer to the brew. With only 10 standard heat sinks to wick away the waste from the LeSabre's close-in weapons array, the designers created a machine that gets better as it gets desperate. Simply put, should an enemy push the LeSabre too far, the MechWarrior may launch an alpha strike to deliberately overtax his machine's heat sinks and activate the special strength myomers. Then, with this extra boost of power, the LeSabre MechWarrior will be able to deliver a devastating physical attack with its sword, teaching any future enemies to keep their distance from this fearsome machine.

Battle History:

The LeSabre has only recently completed its final trials with the Word of Blake Militia. Plans are to deploy the 'mech at HPG's along the Lyran and Capellan borders.

Variants:

To date, the Word of Blake's only variant of the L3-SBR LeSabre has been the L4-SBR model. This variant replaces the triple strength myomer and single heat sinks with 10 double-strength freezers. The tonnage gained by this and the shedding of 2.5 tons of armor allowed Word of Blake engineers to replace one of the medium lasers with a Diverse Optics Sunbeam II ER Large Laser, effectively doubling this 'Mech's long-range punch. One in every six LeSabres produced appear to be this variant.

Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:

Being somewhat of a battlemech buff, Precentor Epsilon VIII Michaleus Roschenko is said to have taken a personal interest in the development of this 'Mech. It's reported he put forth considerable amounts of personal capital from his private business ventures to aid the LeSabre's design and development in return for the first 'mech off the production line.

ScandalVids nearly destroyed the Precentor's corporation, M-Rex Industries, when it was discovered that the Precentor had manipulated the Free Worlds League into granting his company several 'no-bid' government contracts to produce battlemechs. This, and the Precentor's subsequent mysterious disappearance mar the history of an otherwise fine machine.

Deployment

The LeSabre entered the ranks of the Word of Blake Militia in late 3063, and saw first deployment in the ranks of the newly forming 11th Division (The Light of Truth). The 11th Division was partially located to Terra when the Warden Wolves struck at the Word of Blake in 3065, all but shattering the Blakist forces on Terra and Mars. Though many Blakist units escaped to their secondary base world on Rigil Kentarus or other bases in the Chaos March the 11th Division was not among them. The remaining LeSabres in operation - and those still being produced, are scattered among the surviving elements of the 11th Division not sent to Terra, or among a few Free Worlds League units stationed near Gibson.
