Additional tips

Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Pillars of BattleTechWiki.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • Also considering writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as AidanPryde at the top of the page). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
  • Introduce yourself at the new user log.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, check Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on each visit by clicking on my watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date.

Spelling

  • Now, forgive me if they're wrong, but according to dictionary.com, both forms of guerilla are acceptable in American English. I know I changed it first, but my spell checker flagged it as wrong (using en-GB, FYI). The reason I'm bringing this up is that this could turn out to be a problem in future articles; inadvertently changing each other's spelling when they both conform to en-US is rather counter-productive. Perhaps we should work towards finding a decent en-US dictionary to share between Sarna members in the meantime? --Xoid 20:38, 15 December 2006 (CST)
Just noticed the same thing with dependant/dependent, both check out according to dictionary.com — this only highlights the need for a common dictionary between project members in my mind; if we're going to end up changing spelling based on acceptable alternatives, there's no reason to not just let any version of English be used. --Xoid 20:42, 15 December 2006 (CST)
I'm fine with that. We shouldn't have to fight between en-GB and en-US. Any 'version' of English should be acceptable. Nicjansma 15:10, 17 December 2006 (CST)
Heard about the Guerilla UK spelling campaign? Or the Gorilla US spelling campaign? (I'll admit, I'm responsible for recent 'work' on the latter. *snickers*.) Probably best not to to let nationalism of either sort stand in the way. Just pick a standard and stick by it, which is why Revanche, Jimmy and I decided on en-US a lil' while back. --Xoid 07:45, 18 December 2006 (CST)
