List of Ships by Class
Hi Dark Jaguar,
I like the work you're doing creating new WarShip articles here and fleshing out the Smoke Jaguar touman. I just wanted to mention that a couple of mistakes have crept in when you've been adding ships to the main WarShip articles; the articles reflect who the last known owner of a WarShip was. In the case of the Osis' Pride as an example, during the Wars of Reaving the Osis' Pride was encountered by the Ice Hellions and ended up an Ice Hellion possession. The Ice Hellion survivors then later merged into the Goliath Scorpions, leaving the Osis' Pride as a Goliath Scorpion WarShip - hence it's listing on the Potemkin page under the Goliath Scorpions. There were a huge number of changes to ship ownership in the Jihad and the Wars of Reaving, so it's worth checking the individual ship articles to see who the last listed owner is rather than adding a ship to the list twice.
Keep up the good work - I'm looking forward to learning more about some of the Smoke Jaguar ships. I'm not convinced that the Simas Osis isn't a mistake on the author's part - the writer has the Korat, Azov and Ripper escape the Inner Sphere with Delta Galaxy, has the Azov and Ripper being given battle orders, and then the Simas Osis suddenly pops up in the description of the battle having not been mentioned before. I'm wondering if it was an earlier name for one of the ships that got swapped in by mistake... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:25, 6 October 2013 (PDT)
ETA: Oh, I need to move your Ripper article from Ripper (Vessel) to Ripper (Vincent) because there's another WarShip out there with the name Ripper - a destroyer that fought in the battle that destroyed the Bolson Shipyards in the 1st Succession War - and as we know the class for the Smoke Jaguar WarShip, it's easier to move that one from (Vessel) to (Vincent). BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:26, 6 October 2013 (PDT)

: Thank you. I am inclined to agree regarding the Simas Osis, however it is a named vessel and as such (I think) deserves a reference and an attempt to explain the "mistake".

New Bios
I noticed the new biography articles you have been adding; they've been missing an overview at the top with the years (b. ???? - d. ????) and a short summary. See Morgan Kell for an example of what I mean. We strive for consistency here, and that one little thing can help make those articles better and more standardized. -BobTheZombie (talk) 18:05, 10 October 2013 (PDT)

: I have added two Bios for minor characters the dates are not given in any source material I have seen. putting ???? just seems a little pointless - but if that's is the standard I will do it.Dark Jaguar

::I understand where you are coming from... the purpose of that is to let people know that the years are missing and to add them if the info exists; you can also usually narrow down the millenia (3???) or the century (31??) to help vaguely describe it. -BobTheZombie (talk) 18:28, 10 October 2013 (PDT)

Paul Moon
Hi Dark Jaguar. This is part of the what Herb had said among the of the BattleChat Herb had done. He said the ending of Surrender Your Dreams was being subject to Retrocon due to the new direction the franchise is going with. Estiablly, Paul Moon's passing was during a time where arguably the Republic of the Sphere transformed and with Fidelis's help reclaimed the old Republic worlds and released the Fidelis from service. Upcoming IlClan sourcebook is suppose to clear up what happened detail. As for my changes, since herb as Line Developer said that Surrender Your Dream's last chapters were up in the air. Unfortunately (i don't like it either) ending of the book and future era is now in doubt. == Clan unit name issue ==

Good day sir, I noticed that some of the Clan unit articles are named strangely, e.g., 18th Assault (Clan Coyote); in this case, the logical name for it would be "18th Assault Cluster (Clan Coyote)". Do you think that should it be changed, or is there a reason for the current naming? -BobTheZombie (talk) 17:13, 30 October 2013 (PDT)

:: I had noticed this as well. A lot of the units are missing the word Cluster. The only one I feel that are not are the "Regulars" - I have not (as far as I an remember) seen a Regulars unit described as for example 18th Clan-name Regulars Cluster. --Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:11, 31 October 2013 (PDT)

:: I saw the official response, but I have to say to me it seems like part of the actual official name is missing. --Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:41, 31 October 2013 (PDT)

:::: Guys - I see both of your points. To be honest, it bothered me as well when i joined the site. But since its become the standard practice, i'm okay with it. == Clan Smoke Jaguar Work ==

Hi Dark Jaguar,
I appreciate the work you've been doing on updating the various units of the Clan Smoke Jaguar touman, particularly the WarShip articles, which are becoming something of a pet hobby of mine. I particularly appreciate the way you've dug into the novels to confirm information where the sourcebooks are a tad lacking. I noticed on your projects list that you'd marked the project as done, and I definitely think that deserves an award; as such, I'd like to give you your first Appreciation Award:
On the Porthos Page you pulled off the 2822 ownership history from Liberation of Terra Volume 2. That book is off moratorium now since it was released in April, right? : I found the magazine today while cleaning up my place. : To be honest if you look at the clan forces there isn't really a standard, many Clans have units pages that are constructed both ways. It depended upon which editor made the page originally. I can see both sides of the argument. From a user point of view searching for a cluster I would be more inclined the type in 18th Wolf Garrison in the search bar and with the wolf designation more prominent in the text would get the result I wanted quicker. I wouldn't have to scroll through possible ten or more "18th garrison (Clan X)" clusters or possibly give up thinking the unit was not there. :::Yes the redirects are useful for searches, especially when using numerals however there are a lot of redirects being made with text ie Eleventh Battle (Clan Wolf). I honestly don't think anyone will search for a unit by typing in the text of its number. There are multiple clusters across multiple Clans when the Clan name is included in the unit name eg 11th Wolf Regulars (Clan Wolf). I've not noticed any clusters with the (Clan XXX) suffix. There is a lot of work to do if you want uniformity across all Clans though, personally it seems a lot of effort with little gain. To me spending time on the content is far more important. Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:33, 26 June 2016 (PDT)

::::::The typed out unit numerals redirects still have (Clan XXX) as a suffix though, so still require editing on a page with an alternate text link. I just think we need to be a little more restrained with link edits and unnecessary pages. Eg 11th Battle (Clan Wolf)|Eleventh Wolf Battle Cluster - as a link does not require a new redirect page to be made, were as Eleventh Battle (Clan Wolf)|Eleventh Wolf Battle Cluster - does. Does that make sense? I fear we'll end up with more redirects than article pages. Dark Jaguar (talk) 07:12, 27 June 2016 (PDT)

I was reading that the Novels infomation is superseeds the sourcebooks? Is this true? I know there are source books that came out later some of the novels. ClanJF74017 (talk) 15:04, 29 June 2016 (PDT)

:It's mostly true, however there are novels that get things totally wrong and have been corrected in later sourcebooks, for example Phelan Kell talking about Lincoln Osis and his history. Novels often make mistakes, if you see inconsistencies you can notes these in the Notes section of an article. :::Okay. I have been looking at history of Khorsakhov's Cossacks, I see the information listed that is there but I see in the novel Assumption of Risk they were "working" for Free Capella in 3056...the situation with Peter Steiner Davion, I see some of the same issues on Peter's Page. == MechForce Germany 'Mechs ==
+
I have two possibly three 'Mechs that I believe were produced by MFG exclusively. There was one called a Snake-Eye, a Nuke-EM (I think) and I believe that the Catapult K2 is also one of theirs. Does anyone have any information on MFG 'Mechs? - Dark Jaguar (talk) 18:54, 7 June 2017 (EDT)
+
:Which Germany would that have been? I've never been a member, and I only have the complete Life Support magazine from the first and some Terra Post magazines from the third incarnation, but none from the second. Also, I'm not aware of any miniatures officially produced for MFG 'Mech designs, and have never heard of the Snake-Eye or Nuke-EM before. Off the top of my head I can only think of the Linesman and the Sidewinder, neither of which has a miniature.
+
:The CPLT-2K meanwhile is a standard, canonical Catapult variant from TRO:3025. Although extremely rare, it seems to be an extremely popular design in Germany and many German supporters of the upcoming HBS game discussed it on the HBS forum, putting this relatively obscure variant into the spotlight way more than it actually deserves from an in-universe viewpoint. The discussion turned out that the -K2, although mentioned in TRO:3025, was supposedly only produced from 3033 onwards according to the MUL which caused an outcry among the fans on the forum. Turns out CGL, after intense factchecking, had determined that available sources imply the -K2 variant had been completely extinct for a time until production resumed in the 3030s. Because of its populartiy, Todd "Sigil" Marshal put the German version into his Technical Readout: 3028 as a different (if non-canonical) 'Mech. Fan research and lobbying later led to the MUL entry for the -K2 being corrected and its intro date changed. While this whole episode was apparently driven primarily by German fans, ultimately, the CPLT-K2 is a canonical variant. Frabby (talk) 06:15, 8 June 2017 (EDT)

:: I really liked the K2 variant as well, that's why I bought the figure. I got these in about 1999/2000 so not sure if it was the last of MFG2 or the start of MFG3. I had to order them from the MFG website at the time. The Snake-Eye was not a great casting, poorly defined on the main body in my opinion. It had legs in the style of a Mad Cat but not a direct copy of the part. The small weapon pods for arms looked like the PPC housings at the end of a Marauders arm. I think it was a light 'Mech, perhaps 35tons. The Nuke-Em has a definite JagerMech feel to it, but is topped with the radar dish from the Rifleman IIc - so pretty ugly! lol. I never used this 'Mech it was a real piece of Fanon with nuclear armed weaponry (hence the name). I just bought it for the "wierd" value. The K2 basically had Warhammer PPCs turned upside-down in place of the missile pods. Unfortunately I appear to have lost the download of their record sheets over the years. I have the sheets for the Sidewinder and the Lineman, they were published in MFUK Record Book 14. -- Dark Jaguar (talk) 13:40, 8 June 2017 (EDT)

Request Removal/Separation of Capellan Reserves from Capellan Defense Force
+
Hello. I looked at FM: Capellan Confederation and there is a clear conflict between p. 75 and p. 76. Page 75 says the CDF were the Capellan Reserves renamed after the 4th SW while Page 76 says it was made in 3060. I am going to go with Page 76 as there is no CDF in the 20 Year Update book or Historical:Brush War. Who do I talk to remove the Capellan Reserves stuff? Do I do it myself? Henryjones000 (talk) 00:49, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
+
: Hi, My reading of those pages is that the Capellan Reserves as a whole were renamed the Capellan Defense Force after the 4th SW, but FM:CC does not give a date. However, it appears to have taken place several decades after the 4th SW as they are still listed as the Capellan Reserves and Stapleton's Grenadiers in Brush Wars page 88 (3030), 20 Year Update page 63 (3050), Objective Raids page 41 (3054). Certainly the CDF as the parent formation existed in 3057, with the individual regiments still retaining their names until 3060 when further reorganisation seems to have taken place under Xin Sheng. Chaos March source book page 13 still lists Stapleton's Grenadiers in 3057 as well.
+
:As for removal, it is Sarna policy to merge articles for units that change their name to the latest in game time-line name. These name changes should be clearly documented within the History text of the unit, and redirects set from the original name page. Here are some examples of this 6th Wolf Guards (Clan Wolf-in-Exile), 24th Scorpion Cuirassiers (Escorpión Imperio), 331st Battle (Clan Wolverine). Hope that helps :) - Dark Jaguar (talk) 06:34, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
+
::Can you cite where the 3057 existence came from? If it is from that section in page 75 then it is suspect in my eyes. Page 76 clearly states that Stapleton's Grenadiers were renamed and reassigned to the CDF in 3060. Henryjones000 (talk) 09:06, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
+
::: The Capellan Reserves were renamed the Capellan Defense Force by 3057 that is from FM:CC page 75. "The Defence Force did poorly in the Liao-Marik offensive of 3057..." is a clear indication that the name change had already happened for the parent organisation by that date. Stapleton's Grenadiers were renamed the 1st Capellan Defense Force in 3060 that is FM:CC page 76. The Grenadiers were still using that name in 3057 referenced in FM:CC page 76 and Chaos March page 13. I seems to me the military reform took a few years, with first the main formation being renamed before the individual regiments. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 09:25, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
+
:::: I disagree. "As Sun Tzu Liao's Xin Sheng decree penetrated the military, the Grenadiers received a new name and a new lease on life as the first regiment of the Capellan Defense Force." It seems clear from this statement that the Grenadiers were reassigned to the CDF AFTER 3057, in 3060. This is supported by the fact that the 2nd CDF was created in 3060 as well. It is far more logical to accept that the CDF was formed in 3060 as a response to Xin Sheng. Creating the Capellan Defense Force with two regiments in it at the same time certainly makes more sense than renaming the Capellan Reserves then wait a few YEARS to rename the lone unit.
+
:::: In my opinion the section in page 75 is a mistake. The fact that it contradicts 3 different books makes the whole section suspect.Henryjones000 (talk) 10:34, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
+
::::: The Grenadiers are not reassigned to the CDF, the Capellan Reserves are simply renamed the CDF - it is just a name change. Same as the Grenadiers are just renamed the 1st CDF regiment in 3060. The parent organisation and component regiments are two separate levels of formation that appear to have a name change at separate times. There are real life examples of Formations being renamed and then the component regiments/battalions changed later. I don't see page 75 of FM:CC as contradicting anything, but what other books do you think it contradicts? The "new lease of life" mentioned for the Grenadiers is that they finally received new equipment that had been withheld for years. I'm sure a slightly ambiguous bit of writing in the page text could explain/gloss it over. But if you want a full explanation it might be a good idea to ask the writers in the BT forums. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 11:05, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
+
:::::: I've been reading through FM:CC, and the text is somewhat ambiguous - I'd prefer to see an official Ask The Writer ruling for it - but it's not necessarily in conflict with itself. The Capellan Defense Force was the precursor to the CCAF (p. 9) and didn't become the CCAF until Warex Liao's reforms during the Star League era (p. 10) so there's already a need for a clarifying article explaining what the original CDF was.
+
:::::: Page 75 is explicit that the Capellan Defense Force name was reinvoked in the aftermath of the Fourth Succession War, but it refers to the "Capellan reserve regiments" being renamed, not the "Capellan Reserve" or "Capellan Reserves". The text under the New Sagan Armor Auxiliary (p. 76) indicates that the armoured regiment performed well in the St. Ives Conflict - something mentioned more generally about the performance of the Capellan Defense Force on page 75. The text on the Second Capellan Defense Force on page 77 specifies that it was "raised in separate pieces, expanding several Home Guard units to include a battalion of MechWarriors each. In 3060 these units were pulled together and trained as a Defense Force regiment." It also notes that the 121st Urban Defense Detachment is one of the "rare Home Guard units to be sent into frontline combat" - which indicates that other Home Guard units have also been exposed to frontline combat.
+
:::::: TPTB have been explicit in stating that Force Listings and tables generally only show BattleMech regiments because those are what's significant, and we know from various sources that there are a lot of conventional forces out there on planets and within the militaries that aren't important enough to merit listing in things like Field Reports and Field Manuals. The entries mentioned above indicate that Home Guard formations - which implicitly didn't have 'Mech forces prior to them being assigned to them - were being expanded to generate forces, and that Home Guard forces fought during both the conflicts in question.
+
:::::: My thoughts on this are that the Capellan reserves were renamed to the Capellan Defense Force prior to 3060, but that the forces renamed were conventional forces - including Home Guard forces - which is why they don't appear in any of the force listings. The Capellan Defense Force became a notable formation when it incorporated significant 'Mech forces, in the form of the front-line Grenadiers, as well as the mustering of the Second CDF, which incorporated Home Guard formations. The Capellan Defense Force could then have existed prior to 3060 as a conventional unit formation, before becoming a significant brigade when the Grenadiers became the First CDF Regiment in 3060 and the Second CDF Regiment was formed. I know that this interpretation hinges in large part on the distinction between reserves and Reserves, but it seems to me that the two brigades/formations were running in parallel up until 3060, and the CDF simply wasn't significant enough to be listed anywhere because it was conventional forces only (or conventional with minimal 'Mech forces, in keeping with all those Clan Invasion-era militias that showed up in the Clan Wolf/Clan Jade Falcon/Invading Clans books when they were getting stomped, but which had never appeared before). Does that make sense? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 03:50, 26 June 2017 (EDT)

Hi Dark Jaguar,

+
Do you know how the system maps are generated? All those images don't have a category and this makes the Uncategorized files not very useful as from the first 1000 thousand maybe 95% images as these ones. And I do not want to put them in a category as this might affect the "program" that generates them. Do you know who can help? Maybe when the image is generated it can be put in a category like "System Images". I'm asking more people, but do you have any idea?--Pserratv (talk) 10:40, 10 March 2021 (EST)

Welcome[edit]

Welcome, Dark Jaguar, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "Dark Jaguar" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

Just saw your additions. Is You Bet Your Life a story? If so, can you create a short story article about it like it was done with The Ties That Bind? Frabby (talk) 11:57, 15 April 2016 (PDT)

No its not a story, it's an article. The full title could be Classic BattleTech: You Bet Your Life. The info was give to me by someone I know so I don't have the actual magazine. Dark Jaguar (talk) 02:01, 16 April 2016 (PDT)

I have added graphics links to every SLDF command, personally I think these enhances each unit's page giving it a more polished look. Midway Shipyards[edit]

Hi there, please can you take a look on Midway Shipyards, iam not a fluff writer and i do this on Midway Shipyards as first, can you double check my writing...i dont know if its ok or i take a plagrarism of the source, thanks a lot to take a look.--Doneve (talk) 14:13, 14 June 2016 (PDT)

I'll take a look Dark Jaguar (talk) 14:23, 14 June 2016 (PDT)

Alpha, Beta, Delta and Epsilon SJ Galaxies[edit]

Completed a major overhaul of these Galaxies pages and an overhaul of all their associated Clusters. All battles are now documented and accounted for, for each unit and fully referenced. All pages should now cross reference to avoid masses of duplicated material. I know its my pet project but with no published Field Manual Sarna is pretty much the only place your find this verifiable information for what is, lets face it ... the most popular Bad Guys and opponents in the Era before WoB. Let me know if I missed something or if you have any info to add. Dark Jaguar (talk) 11:53, 17 June 2016 (PDT)

He he he, you think you are done, neh neh neh, what is with all the planet pages some Jaguar commands involved during Operation Revival and Bulldog Wink.gif.--Doneve (talk) 12:01, 17 June 2016 (PDT)
Nah, I know there are the Second Line Galaxies to go and then I'll move to the plants after I've collated all the battle info, but just know I'm rather pleased I think I caught all the errors and added all the info ... probably find more tomorrow! Composition History[edit]

Hi there, i love your SLDF composition updates, can you add please year numbers as header, cheers.--Doneve (talk) 09:04, 18 June 2016 (PDT)

Thanks, yes no problem. These are current as of 2764, what I don't know is when these designations were introduced. They were different in the early Star League. Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:22, 18 June 2016 (PDT)
I checke The Star League and Field Manual: SLDF but you are correct the most units are around 2764.--Doneve (talk) 12:28, 18 June 2016 (PDT)

Huntress Garrison[edit]

Both the Watchmen and the Iron Guard Galaxies pages as well as those of the six associated clusters have all been updated significantly, these are now no longer just little better than Stub articles. Dark Jaguar (talk) 14:40, 19 June 2016 (PDT)

SLDF Unit updates[edit]

Please feel free to make whatever updates you wish to make. It's only a pet project because I was tired of banging my head against the wall on the Updates Needed links. If you want to update the SLDF Updates page when you're making updates, that's fine with me. (I mean, if you remove the appropriate link from that page, that'd be great.)--Mbear(talk) 07:09, 20 June 2016 (PDT)

Clan Wolf[edit]

Hi dude, i stard to add missing Clan Wolf units, when you found time please take a look and i hope you can expand it a little bit, thanks.--Doneve (talk) 13:42, 21 June 2016 (PDT)

Already having a look at Epsilon Galaxy Smiley.gif Give the popularity of the Wolves I'm surprised no one has done more with them. Dark Jaguar (talk) 13:50, 21 June 2016 (PDT)

Nega Garrison Cluster[edit]

Thank you for your edits. First Article for me, I was still learning how to do it right. I am looking forward to learning. ClanJF74017 (talk) 10:37, 25 June 2016 (PDT)

No worries, just putting it in the Sarna "house" style. If you need any help just ask. Smiley.gif Good spot on a little know unit, keep up the good work. Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:51, 25 June 2016 (PDT)

Wolf Garrison Clusters[edit]

So Doneve told me to ask you, what is the proper format for unit clusters in reference to the newly made Garrison Cluster pages. for example he made the 18th Wolf Garrison (Clan Wolf) page but should it not be 18th Garrison (Clan Wolf) to be inline with other clan unit pages? i.e 5th Garrison (Clan Nova Cat), and 5th Garrison (Clan Smoke Jaguar). I know he is just taking the names right out of the book. However having the extra "Wolf" in the title of the page is odd compared to other clans.

To be honest if you look at the clan forces there isn't really a standard, many Clans have units pages that are constructed both ways. Dark Jaguar (talk) 05:14, 26 June 2016 (PDT)
That's why we set up redirects so we can have both ways :P, My mistake though in thinking there was a standard for how Clan units were suppose to be displayed, I was under the impression that we are to keep them much the same all the way though which is why we added the (Clan XXX) to the articles.--Deadfire (talk) 05:22, 26 June 2016 (PDT)
Yes the redirects are useful for searches, especially when using numerals however there are a lot of redirects being made with text ie Eleventh Battle (Clan Wolf).
I think the typed out unit numerals are for the purpose of links in articles rather than search aids. I could be wrong though.--Dmon (talk) 16:22, 26 June 2016 (PDT)
Yeah, I'd have to agree with Doneve on this, and be sure to keep it consistent whatever you decide. Also redirects are your best friend Smiley.gif -BobTheZombie (talk) 18:50, 26 June 2016 (PDT)
The typed out unit numerals redirects still have (Clan XXX) as a suffix though, so still require editing on a page with an alternate text link.

Military Commands needed[edit]

How can I help out? I have joined recently have wrote 2 Articles so far as you know. I am wanting help on the Project. Is this goal to get all the Military Commands wrote up? I have access to most of the classic line, some of the Mechwarrior run, as well as some of the Mechwarrior: Dark Age. I can work on detail work from those novels to flush out units, I can work on new articles if some are missing. ClanJF74017 (talk) 14:44, 27 June 2016 (PDT)

Well as a Jade Falcon fan, there is a lot of work needed on their Galaxies and Clusters, add what you see is missing Smiley.gif Dark Jaguar (talk) 14:48, 27 June 2016 (PDT)
Sounds good to me, I shall begin there.ClanJF74017 (talk) 15:00, 27 June 2016 (PDT)

Question Novel vs Source Book[edit]

I was reading that the Novels infomation is superseeds the sourcebooks? Is this true? I know there are source books that came out later some of the novels. ClanJF74017 (talk) 15:04, 29 June 2016 (PDT)

It's mostly true, however there are novels that get things totally wrong and have been corrected in later sourcebooks, for example Phelan Kell talking about Lincoln Osis and his history. Novels often make mistakes, if you see inconsistencies you can notes these in the Notes section of an article. Dark Jaguar (talk) 15:15, 29 June 2016 (PDT)
Okay. I have been looking at history of Khorsakhov's Cossacks, I see the information listed that is there but I see in the novel Assumption of Risk they were "working" for Free Capella in 3056...the situation with Peter Steiner Davion, I see some of the same issues on Peter's Page. Also Tormano Liao shows that information. Defnitely some ambiguity there.ClanJF74017 (talk) 15:24, 29 June 2016 (PDT)
It's been a long while since I read that novel. I think the problems are on Peters page, though I might be wrong. Might have to check the references used on those pages. Dark Jaguar (talk) 15:43, 29 June 2016 (PDT)
I took what I had an and incorporated a little small detail to Peter's page. I also added a note to the notes on the merc unit. That way its addressed that way and referenced.ClanJF74017 (talk) 19:15, 29 June 2016 (PDT)

Clan Widowmaker Touman[edit]

The known (at least by me) Clan Widowmaker Touman is up for review:
3rd Battle Cluster
4th Fang Cluster
194th Crusader Cluster
1st Spinner Cluster
5th Provisional Garrison Cluster
If anyone knowns of any more Clusters let me know. Dark Jaguar (talk) 11:30, 5 July 2016 (PDT)

Mercenary unit names[edit]

I saw you're adding in the merc unit names in the infobox. I wondered why, as the infobox will automatically assume the article name if the field is left blank. It was only put in for cases of ambiguous names, where the unit's name might differ from the article name. Frabby (talk) 12:49, 13 May 2017 (EDT)

The Info box is not automatically adding the article name though and is blank when viewed. All other units have the info box filled out even when the article name is the same. Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:53, 13 May 2017 (EDT)
It was really a consistency thing, just so all pages have a uniform feel to them. Dark Jaguar (talk) 08:48, 4 June 2017 (EDT)

Clan Wolverine Touman[edit]

I've put together the Touman from the sources I can find, if anyone knows any other references please let me know. Dark Jaguar (talk) 05:48, 28 May 2017 (EDT)

Where did you find that? I didn't know they wrote anything about them? Buzzard (talk) 12:52, 20 June 2017 (EDT)
There isn't much written, most of what is comes from a single BattleCorps story Betrayal of Ideals. It's told from the Wolverine perspective which differs from many other sources, but is still canon. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 15:06, 20 June 2017 (EDT)

MechForce Germany 'Mechs[edit]

I have two possibly three 'Mechs that I believe were produced by MFG exclusively. There was one called a Snake-Eye, a Nuke-EM (I think) and I believe that the Catapult K2 is also one of theirs. Does anyone have any information on MFG 'Mechs? - Dark Jaguar (talk) 18:54, 7 June 2017 (EDT)

Which MechForce Germany would that have been? I've never been a member, and I only have the complete Life Support magazine from the first and some Terra Post magazines from the third incarnation, but none from the second. Also, I'm not aware of any miniatures officially produced for MFG 'Mech designs, and have never heard of the Snake-Eye or Nuke-EM before. Off the top of my head I can only think of the Linesman and the Sidewinder, neither of which has a miniature.
The CPLT-2K meanwhile is a standard, canonical Catapult variant from TRO:3025.
I really liked the K2 variant as well, that's why I bought the figure.

Request Removal/Separation of Capellan Reserves from Capellan Defense Force[edit]

Hi, My reading of those pages is that the Capellan Reserves as a whole were renamed the Capellan Defense Force after the 4th SW, but FM:CC does not give a date.
As for removal, it is Sarna policy to merge articles for units that change their name to the latest in game time-line name. Hope that helps Smiley.gif - Dark Jaguar (talk) 06:34, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
Can you cite where the 3057 existence came from? If it is from that section in page 75 then it is suspect in my eyes. Page 76 clearly states that Stapleton's Grenadiers were renamed and reassigned to the CDF in 3060. Henryjones000 (talk) 09:06, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
The Capellan Reserves were renamed the Capellan Defense Force by 3057 that is from FM:CC page 75.
I disagree.
In my opinion the section in page 75 is a mistake. The fact that it contradicts 3 different books makes the whole section suspect.Henryjones000 (talk) 10:34, 17 June 2017 (EDT)
The Grenadiers are not reassigned to the CDF, the Capellan Reserves are simply renamed the CDF - it is just a name change.
I've been reading through FM:CC, and the text is somewhat ambiguous - I'd prefer to see an official Ask The Writer ruling for it - but it's not necessarily in conflict with itself. The Capellan Defense Force was the precursor to the CCAF (p. 9) and didn't become the CCAF until Warex Liao's reforms during the Star League era (p. 10) so there's already a need for a clarifying article explaining what the original CDF was.
Page 75 is explicit that the Capellan Defense Force name was reinvoked in the aftermath of the Fourth Succession War, but it refers to the "Capellan reserve regiments" being renamed, not the "Capellan Reserve" or "Capellan Reserves".
TPTB have been explicit in stating that Force Listings and tables generally only show BattleMech regiments because those are what's significant, and we know from various sources that there are a lot of conventional forces out there on planets and within the militaries that aren't important enough to merit listing in things like Field Reports and Field Manuals. The entries mentioned above indicate that Home Guard formations - which implicitly didn't have 'Mech forces prior to them being assigned to them - were being expanded to generate forces, and that Home Guard forces fought during both the conflicts in question.
My thoughts on this are that the Capellan reserves were renamed to the Capellan Defense Force prior to 3060, but that the forces renamed were conventional forces - including Home Guard forces - which is why they don't appear in any of the force listings.
That makes sense, thank you for your input Broken Smiley.gif - Dark Jaguar (talk) 18:51, 26 June 2017 (EDT)
Wow guys I think this guy needs to say a big thank you for putting inyour time and effort to read through the relavent source books to help him out. I would have just gone with the info on page 75. I think a Direction Appreciated Award, 1st ribbon is in order for the pair of you. Help finding the correct information does count as an editing issue, right? Buzzard (talk) 12:01, 27 June 2017 (EDT)
Thank you, all part of the service! Think you need to let Broken know on his page as well. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 04:03, 1 July 2017 (EDT)

Hey[edit]

Hey, how do you get those "editor" and "project" awards at the top of your page? I don't see them anywhere. Buzzard (talk) 12:50, 20 June 2017 (EDT)

Also what does "actions" mean on this page? Special:ActiveUsers Is it number of edits or pages looked at or just clicks on the website? Buzzard (talk) 13:23, 20 June 2017 (EDT)
Those aren't awards so you won't find them on the awards page. They are Project bars for belonging to a particular Wiki-project, unfortunately most of these have fallen by the wayside it seems these days. You can still sign up though on the Project page. The editor bar is just that a little bit of fun really. They were made by one of the Admins MBear. You can find them here - User:Mbear/MyImages. Just copy and paste.
The actions I believe are edits conducted over the last 30 days. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 15:06, 20 June 2017 (EDT)
Thanks for the help. I like those, looks good on my page :-) Are you sure about the actions = edits thing? Because if so it says you have done 1000+ in the last 30 days! Buzzard (talk) 12:39, 26 June 2017 (EDT)
Yeah, sounds about right. I hit 7500 on 11 June and am now on 8000 ...I've had a bit of time on my hands/avoiding other chores ! Cheesy.gif - Dark Jaguar (talk) 18:56, 26 June 2017 (EDT)
Seriously! Wow, you need to get a life! lol. No seriously ... you do (joking) that's quite a bit of hard work. Makes my 4 look a bit pityful! Looking at the awards I surprised you don't have a casual edit award by now, so have one on me Casual Edit Award, 1st ribbon. Looking at the criteria for that award how can people with 1000's of edits on the user-score page not have loads? Have I missed something? Buzzard (talk) 12:01, 27 June 2017 (EDT)
Thank you! Smiley.gif I agree this is an award that looks like it should be given out more, not sure what the reason or even if there are any for it being far rarer. If you look at the editors with the highest edit count (Doneve not included he deserves the founders version tbh) it comes out about 1 to 4000 edits, not exactly casual. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 04:03, 1 July 2017 (EDT)

Images of individual spacecraft[edit]

Please do not put generic images into articles about individual spacecraft. These articles should only show pictures specifically of the individual vessel in question, such as an image from a book or a photo of a miniature with an official paintjob (e. g. CamoSpecs). Frabby (talk)

Okay fair enough I won't, but personally I think it gives the page a more professional look. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 16:05, 20 June 2017 (EDT)
Oh I do understand that sentiment. I even agree to a degree. But technically it's false information when you pass off a generic image as an image of the specific ship in question. And Sarna has caught too much flak for those small errors in the past. Especially on the HBS forum Sarna content is often treated as gospel - it's kinda funny when people try to prove some point to me by citing my own poorly written Sarna texts from years ago... But it's never funny to have a genuine misinformation shoved in your face. That's why I am so nitpicky about the issue. Hope you don't mind. Frabby (talk) 03:51, 21 June 2017 (EDT)
No worries, it's fine, I understand Smiley.gif - Dark Jaguar (talk) 13:04, 21 June 2017 (EDT)

Ice Hellions[edit]

Clan Ice Hellion.jpg

The Ice Hellion Touman, every Galaxy and Cluster, has been updated to 3074 and the end of the Clan. The only reference missing from a few units is anything from Operation Ice Storm (novel). So if anyone has a copy please let me know any information, thanks. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 05:16, 25 June 2017 (EDT)

I like the pictures :) Buzzard (talk) 12:00, 11 August 2017 (EDT)

Clan Coyote Touman[edit]

Clan Coyote.jpg

The Clan Coyote Touman is now completely updated to 3085, including all Galaxies and Cluster pages. Please let me know if you think I missed something. - Dark Jaguar (talk) 08:05, 9 July 2017 (EDT)

That is a lot of work! You need to get out more lol Buzzard (talk) 12:01, 11 August 2017 (EDT)

Spammers[edit]

Sitting here helplessly watching the spammers create their pointless pages, so frustrating! Sad.gif - Dark Jaguar (talk) 18:15, 12 July 2017 (EDT)

Phantom Posts[edit]

How odd! I looked at the User Score page and noticed that some inactive users edit post numbers have gone up without them having posted in months .... very odd - Dark Jaguar (talk) 11:26, 29 July 2017 (EDT)

I'm curious: how did you detect the change?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:55, 29 July 2017 (EDT)
It was Doneve's score at top of the list that gave it away. It was an odd number before and then was rounded up to 91300. It's hard not to notice a score as large as that! Smiley.gif - Dark Jaguar (talk) 17:23, 29 July 2017 (EDT)
You're right...that is odd. His number always tends to catch the eye, too. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 12:57, 30 July 2017 (EDT)
His Count has gone down by 3 today, very odd! - Dark Jaguar (talk) 19:19, 11 August 2017 (EDT)

Clan Fire Mandrill and Clan Steel Viper[edit]

Finished both Clan updates of their Toumans, to the date of their destruction. I seem to have a thing for dead Clans Cheesy.gif - Dark Jaguar (talk) 12:54, 30 July 2017 (EDT)

System Coordinates naming question[edit]

Dark Jaguar, I'm trying to get the band back together. Would you weigh in on this, please? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:09, 2 August 2017 (EDT)

Well I've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark out, and I'm wearing sunglasses .... hit it! - Dark Jaguar (talk) 13:59, 3 August 2017 (EDT)
Why am I suddenly thinking about effin' penguins?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 14:19, 3 August 2017 (EDT)

Image Categories[edit]

Hi Dark Jaguar,

Do you know how the system maps are generated? All those images don't have a category and this makes the Uncategorized files not very useful as from the first 1000 thousand maybe 95% images as these ones. And I do not want to put them in a category as this might affect the "program" that generates them. Do you know who can help? Maybe when the image is generated it can be put in a category like "System Images". I'm asking more people, but do you have any idea?--Pserratv (talk) 10:40, 10 March 2021 (EST)
