Welcome

Welcome, Doneve, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "Doneve" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

Merry CHristmas

Hi Doneve,
I hope you and your family hae a great and stress-free Christmas and New Year - preferably involving lots of the best things in life, like all the stollen you can eat ;) BrokenMnemonic (talk) 08:36, 23 December 2014 (PST)

Happy Holidays, Doneve! By the way, left you a message on Aries. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 11:59, 1 January 2015 (PST)
Thanks guys :).--Doneve (talk) 13:07, 1 January 2015 (PST)
Doneve - Got your message. Thanks! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 21:37, 2 January 2015 (PST)

Planet Co-ordinates

Hy Doneve,

I hope you had a good time over the holidays? I'm trying to adjust to the idea that it's 2015 already, and I have to go back to work on Monday. Where did the holiday go?

Volt's left an updated link for the systems/distance spreadsheet on my talk page - because the overall map got updated, it looks like the planet coordinates have shifted slightly, which has caused knock-on changes in which systems are nearest. I think we're going to have to start again at the beginning, but the sheet does have all of the Combine planets in, so it should be complete, and I don't think we'll have to change again once this one's done. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 04:05, 3 January 2015 (PST)

Hi BM, yep i got the spreadsheet, i start to work this day from it. But grml i start again from [A] and double check the info.--Doneve (talk) 04:34, 3 January 2015 (PST)
Hi Doneve,
I just came across Attenbrooks, a system with no systems within 60 light years. Rather than leave the Nearby systems section blank, I listed the four nearest systems - and specifically annotated them as being the four nearest systems - so that those browsing can get an idea of how far away the system is from anything else of note. Does that seem like a good idea to you? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 13:26, 16 February 2015 (PST)

Wiki-break

You're going into hospital again? I understand that nurses are cute, what with the uniforms and all, but surely it would be more convenient for you if we had a whip-round here and got you a subscription to naughtynurses.com instead, to cut down on the travelling?
I hope you're out of hospital soon, and not just so that I don't have to do all of these planets myself... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 23:53, 5 January 2015 (PST)

Don't worry, my laptop go with me and i can use wlan, iam in work to prepar the spreadshett, then i can quickly update 50 planet pages on one day. Yes yes the nurses, but my wife is the best nurse ;)--Doneve (talk) 10:31, 6 January 2015 (PST)
Heavy hit, those nurses are really calling you back. Rather have you get better than worry about working on the wiki! Feel well, my friend. -- Wrangler (talk) 13:23, 6 January 2015 (PST)
Thanks my friends, i come better prepared and we will rock sarna. But when i known it comes to end, i want to manage that User: BrokenMnemonic, User:ClanWolverine101, User: Wrangler, Mbear, Frabby, i hope User: Revanche found time to a last lunch and party. Ya ya some lives on america, england and germany but dont worry i love all of you, money is not the problem, i send all or my wife to you some infos etc. etc. via sarna email, how we can do this, when the time comes. Its a crazy idea but i want this and do this.--Doneve (talk) 13:55, 6 January 2015 (PST)
I think you've got years left in you yet - unless your wife catches you with two or three of those nurses... BrokenMnemonic (talk) 11:40, 7 January 2015 (PST)

FASA

Hy Doneve
I hope you're feeling well, and aren't too tired from chasing all those nurses around the hospital...
I've just added a short article on the Finmark Air and Space Academy, based on the detail in Field Report 2765: Periphery. I included in the notes a section on how the Academy and its abbreviation, FASA, are almost certainly homages to the company FASA and the source of FASA's name, the Freedonian Aeronautics and Space Administration. I know that's at least the second FASA homage I've seen in recent products, because Historical: Op KLONDIKE also has a planet named Fasa in it. Do you think it's worth noting those homages in a notes section in the article on FASA here on Sarna? I've not done much with the articles based on real life here, so I'm not sure if that'd count as too much extraneous detail or not. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 02:13, 13 January 2015 (PST)

Hy BM, iam feeling so lala! I like this little homage note on FASA and its not worth to add this tid bit of info.--Doneve (talk) 03:58, 13 January 2015 (PST)

Bristol

If you could check this talk page, that'd be great! -BobTheZombie (talk) 20:08, 16 January 2015 (PST)

Feeling Better?

Hi Doneve, i noticed you changed wikibreak status. Are you feeling better I hope? -- Wrangler (talk) 04:32, 23 January 2015 (PST)

Hidden Worlds

Hy Doneve,
I just hit a system with one of the Hidden Worlds in the nearest systems table, and it made me think about which names should be used for them. Given that we've had the locations of the Ruins of Gabriel, Jardine and Mayadi canonised through publications, but Obeedah and Taussen were confirmed by Herb on the forum. As it wasn't in the official Ask the Writer/Ask the Developer forum, and it specifically caveated by him as something that could change, I think we should stick to using Sharpe and Versailles, even though in most other situations I'd use the more recent name. Does that sound reasonable to you? The redirects are all set up so anyone specifically searching for the worlds will find them, but it means we don't have to run around changing system tables all over the place if a future developer changes the location of the last two worlds. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 13:31, 26 January 2015 (PST)

This make sense, thanks to point out this.--Doneve (talk) 23:28, 26 January 2015 (PST)

Ranks and Italics

Doneve - I gotta ask, when did we decide to italicize every single rank in an article? Thanks. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 21:11, 2 February 2015 (PST)

Never, in the past i built this error in unit articles, only Draconis Combine and Lyran Commonwealth/Lyran Alliance ranks shut be italicize, take a look on the BattleCorps: Style Guide.--Doneve (talk) 05:39, 6 February 2015 (PST)

Random Act of Appreciation

Noticing that you corrected a typo and added some italics where appropriate in the middle of one of my rather long essays (Interpolated Autocannons), shows me that someone actually READ that bit of pondering. While Sarna is no longer a place for Fanon, the Fanon is what drew me here in the first place, so seeing someone actually read something there tickles me. : ) So, have your 10th random act of appreciation award. -- LRichardson 19:59, 19 February 2015 (PST)

Retired Award

Hi Doneve,
We passed a milestone yesterday or the day before - more than 10% of the planets have been updated to the new article format with the co-ordinates and nearby systems updated. I wouldn't have been able to get as much done as I have without your help - I would've lost the will to live somewhere around the 200th planet beginning with the letter "A" if it was just me working on the update. So, I've retired your 10th All Purpose Award so that I can give you your 11th. You rock. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 13:24, 3 March 2015 (PST)

Hey Doneve

Hey - That link you sent me seems to be dead. Can you send me a new one via Aries? Thanks! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 22:06, 21 March 2015 (PDT)

Doneve - Hey you okay? ClanWolverine101 (talk) 18:19, 25 April 2015 (PDT)

Hope Your Feeling Well

Hi Doneve, i was thinking of you today. I hope your doing well. I silly me play Minecraft sometimes, I was on a Navy themed server in germany. Just wanted to say hi. -- Wrangler (talk) 04:27, 8 April 2015 (PDT)

XTROList

Hi Doneve. I'm not sure how to update the source of XTROList we use in XTRO books. Do you know where I can add XTRO: Republic 2's entry into the list? - Wrangler (talk) 08:30, 5 June 2015 (PDT)

Marialle Radick Pic

Doneve - Hey can you upload the pic of Marialle Radick for me? Its in The Falcon and the Wolf. Thanks! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 19:38, 18 July 2015 (PDT)

Interstellar Operations

Stop what you're doing and go and get the IO beta from DriveThru-RPG. Seriously. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 09:11, 24 July 2015 (PDT)

Thanks for the info, but i wait for the final version, but Combat Manual Mercenaries comes and i got it.--Doneve (talk) 09:31, 24 July 2015 (PDT)
If you buy the beta version of IO now for $10 via DriveThru-RPG, you get an automatic upgrade to the full version (which has an RRP of $25 for the PDF) when it comes out - so you're saving $15. I hadn't spotted Combat Manual: Mercenaries is out - is it good? BrokenMnemonic (talk) 11:13, 24 July 2015 (PDT)
Ah ha i overread this, IO beta is buyed :), ähm i mean i pre orderd Combat Manual: Mercenaires.--Doneve (talk) 17:14, 24 July 2015 (PDT)

Doctor Géné Lyndon

Hello Doneve. About that article you posted named "Doctor Géné Lyndon". It shouldn't have the person's title in the name of the article. It should be just "Géné Lyndon", perhap have redirect to using the Doctor in the name. We don't name article about for example: Hanse Davion, Prince Hanse Davion for example. -- Wrangler (talk) 09:47, 7 August 2015 (PDT)

So is this a person or a company? I'm confused... -BobTheZombie (talk) 10:42, 7 August 2015 (PDT)
Hm, this is a good question, iam using the Manufacturer name from TRO:3055U and understand this as company and this is Doctor Géné Lyndon, but i move the page to Géné Lyndon.--Doneve (talk) 15:44, 7 August 2015 (PDT)
You may want ask the Writers on the Battletech Forums. I'll look at my book see what it is. Do you have name who producing whatever it is? I didn't look at the article. -- Wrangler (talk) 17:36, 7 August 2015 (PDT)
Hmmm, Reading the book. This is the individual who built the mech with team of engineers. I'm sorry Doneve, i'd go back to the original "company" name with the Doctor in it. I greatly doubt there will be a feature article about Géné Lyndon the person, she a throwaway name in the article who has no-name company. I would name it "Doctor Géné Lyndo (Solaris VII Company)", so the reader won't think it's about a person. - Wrangler (talk) 17:43, 7 August 2015 (PDT)

Spacecraft naming conventions

Hi Doneve, thanks for joining the work here. However, two things:
1. We only change the names which are ambiguous, i.e. those which had some disambiguation appendix in brackets (like "(vessel)" or "(Union)"). Unambiguous names, i.e. those which have no other article or topic associated with them and thus no appendix, need not have their name altered.
2. When moving a mainspace article, I usually also move the talk page but I then go back and delete the Talk Page redirect from the old article, as it's not needed for anything. Frabby (talk) 12:44, 25 August 2015 (PDT)
