I'm catching up with you on editcounts. Today i gained 3 to your 1 addition. Only 84 more to go (which equates to about 4,200 more, by that counter's function). :Yeah, I didn't realize you could customize your signature using wikicode. ::It sort of surprised me really, most people who use vanity templates store them in the User namespace. e.g., <code><nowiki>{{User:Ebakunin/sig}}</nowiki></code>. One reason I always shied away from that property is because of its non-universal support. Be careful that in freeing the web from the tyranny of IE's non-compliance with standards that we don't…yada, yada. You get the drift.

:The only reason the I use the -moz-border-radius attribute is because it degrades gracefully to all other browsers. Color

Quick question: what code do I use to change the color of certain text? I thought <color=brown></color> would have worked, but it does not. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 05:08, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Unless you want me to create a template, you should use <span>, one of the few HTML tags allowed in the wiki. Try this: <span style="color:blue">example</span>. It will display example. You can apply other font attributes too. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 05:15, 19 July 2009 (UTC)
Aaah-kay. Thanks. It apparently doesn't work within the {{quote}} template, but it does work outside it. Thanks, Ebakunin. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 05:25, 19 July 2009 (UTC)

Transcluded

Ebakunin, requesting a kludge be shoehorned into MediaWiki:Common.js/edit.js: can you ensure that no "{" is next to another "{"? As it is, the templates this script allows you to insert are actually transcluded. While I theorise that there might be other side effects, MediaWiki:Common.js/edit.js currently appears in the categories that those templates bestow.

While we're on the topic, could you make it so you can insert stuff in the summary field too? (Might be more work than it's worth though…) --Xoid 07:10, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

Hi Xoid. I can do both but it'll take quite a while. The problem is that all the content is done via JavaScript, which by definition is a nasty hack. So I'll need to hack the hack for the kludge to not turn buggy. That was fun to write.
On a separate note, I'd like to remove the {{template doc page transcluded}} template from the /doc pages. The reason is that they can be confusing to the average user. The people who want to actually modify a template are few and far between and are likely to know (or figure out on their own) where the documentation is. The vast majority of viewers will just be curious as to how the template works. Words like "transcluded" just complicate things. As an example I modified {{!}}. If you disagree you can always rollback the changes. Thanks. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 01:19, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
Having that lil' link there saves time when you're a lazy bastard like myself, and I'd prefer that they stay. (They're also an easy way to tell whether something conforms to the TDP or not.) Rewording the template itself so that it's easy for people to figure out that the edit link there is for the poor schmucks who have to come in and correct documentation errors seems a better solution. --Xoid 05:17, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
However, when you edit the template, at the bottom of the page you'll see the list of transcluded templates. You can get the link that way without the confusing text. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 15:46, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

References on the edit toolbar

What am I doing wrong here? I imagine...it needs to be referenced somewhere else? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 23:55, 25 July 2009 (UTC)

The ref templates are actually in the editbar—the last two buttons insert <ref></ref> and <references />. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 00:31, 26 July 2009 (UTC)
I knew that! Can I borrow your reality transfer device?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:28, 26 July 2009 (UTC)

Question

Hy I see in the timeline 2906 a discrepance... in Battletech 25 Years Art & Fiction they write the Home Defense Act passed was by the FWL....and in the timeline is writen by Capellan Confederation... I dont know..... sorry for my englisch Doneve 15:47, 20 October 2009 (UTC)

Hi Doneve. I'm not really sure which one is correct. Communibus locis made the last edit in '08 referencing the Capellan Confederation, but did not cite his source (sigh). We may need to do some research on this one. Thanks for pointing on the discrepancy! --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 02:19, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Jihad Turning Points: Atreus

Hello Ebakunin. Do you know when you or someone else will be posting the article/entry for the new Jihad Turing Points: Atreus that just came out? I was surprised that no one had made something for it yet. I'm not that hot with uploading article pictures, was holding out in posting something about it. It came on PDF in last week of November -- Wrangler 12:26, 27 November 2009 (UTC)

Hi Wrangler. I bad oversight on our part. I have created the article, along with a two-month moratorium (because of the moratorium guidelines). However, I haven't bought the scenario pack yet and we still need the attributions added. Would you please handle that section? Thanks a lot for the help! --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 19:50, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Alrighty, I'll start putting in content. I didn't get chance buy the naval scenario they came up with. I only had cash for the Atreus itself. I'll work on it tonight or tomorrow. -- Wrangler 20:11, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
Question - Why is the book listed as Last in the Jihad Turing Points? Is listed somewhere? I need added a citation to that. They still need take Terra, Gibson, couple other worlds. -- Wrangler 20:41, 27 November 2009 (UTC)
I think I remember CGL stating they were going to publish the Great House capitals in Turning Point scenarios. However, I have nothing to cite and there's no reason they couldn't have changed their minds anyway Tongue.gif. Please erase that part. Thanks. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 03:59, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Okay then, I'll remove the comment. I will ask the writers if they plan to keep trucking along with the series. I don't know if they can respond to that. -- Wrangler 13:49, 28 November 2009 (UTC)

Awards

Ebakunin, I took the liberty of installing an awards board on your main page. Please place it where it best fits your design. Happy New Year! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 05:02, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

Founders Editor of the Year

Ebakunin - I feel that you've been a tremendous editor on the wiki over the last year (including your map project, the editing tools, and leadership in the year articles), and have thus given you the Editor of the Year award. Congratulations, and thank you for all of your hard work. Nicjansma 06:14, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

References & Bibliographies

Hey, Ebakunin. Welcome back. In regards to my use of references & biblios (Imperial City), it was decided by consensus a while ago that the reference section should be reserved for direct citations of text within an article, while biblios would be used to document complete titles (as well as other sources) that can be reviewed for further information. This was a decision (again, thru consensus) to more adequately meet the citation requirements of real word serious scholastic methods. No one has yet gotten around to adding this req to Help:References, but since I've launched BattleTechWiki:Project Unfinished Book's first mission, I decided I had better start working towards that standard. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 04:54, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

Bad me. Very bad me. Ok, let's try this again. Is this the correct format? Thanks. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 05:05, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
No, no: not bad you. It hasn't become 'policy' yet, but I shall endeavor to complete it. I made this change to your favored article. Note the biblio entries are alphabetized and no information needs to be added to them, since that info is only a click away. Also, I didn't get to the cites for the references, but they don't need to be wikilinked anymore (since the biblio entry will be wikilinked). Hope that helps. Good night! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 06:08, 16 February 2010 (UTC)

SlickMap CSS

Mbear introduced this idea. Is this something that could liven up Dmon's trees? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 21:19, 4 March 2010 (UTC)

You're referring to his Military Rank Insignia tables, right? They are well done and I wouldn't mind rolling out the theme elsewhere. However, that brings up the whole site look/makeover issue, which is a whole different ballpark. I'm not sure of the best way to handle it. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 02:04, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
Actually, I was a bit in a rush and wasn't complete. Mbear suggested this in regards to Dmon's table trees. When you say 'site lookout/makeover,' I recall our long range discussions of the site, but checking: are you saying that including the capability of adding these in would necessitate (i.e., force, due to code use) such a change? --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:49, 5 March 2010 (UTC)
You gotta love it when everyone needs to spend most of their time clarifying themselves. Tongue.gif By site makeover, I was referring to unifying the style of all the templates. For example, having his CSS look apply to both the novel template and the unit template. Applying his styling to Dmon's table trees should be fairly easy. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 19:38, 6 March 2010 (UTC)
I took another look at it. It says it only goes three deep level-wise, which wouldn't be too practical for family or unit trees. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:49, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
That's something I can fix. Adding more levels shouldn't be a huge problem.--Mbear 17:54, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

CCG

Thanks Ebakunin for adding the missing text, on the CCG, i forgot to add the text, on many cards.Doneve 00:03, 8 March 2010 (UTC)

Viability of Mbear's Suggestion

Hey, would you weigh in on this discussion? Thanks. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 17:15, 19 March 2010 (UTC)

Userbar

Good morning, Ebakunin. You once offered to help with graphics, in regards to the awards program. I was thinking we could use a userbar with similar dimensions to these for the position of Editors. Afterall, the Editors are the primary reason we can have a site like the one we have today. Is this something you can swing?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 11:15, 24 March 2010 (UTC)

Hi Revanche. Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about this request Wink.gif. When Skuggi originally created the bars he used one (or maybe two) layer templates. If I could get a hold of those templates making new ones would be easy. However, Skuggi's personal site is gone. There are other bar artists -- I assume they must have the .PDF file(s) as well. Do you know how to contact them? Thanks. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 00:02, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
Just to keep you informed, I asked Mbear to take a crack at it too, and he's returned with these so far, which have impressed me. As far as I'm concerned, we shouldn't turn away artists, so if you have some designs (for Editors or whatever), please add 'em. We can create a gallery for BTW userbars.
As for contact: no. I grabbed most of the ones I added for forums off the forums or links of pages.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:40, 2 April 2010 (UTC)
FWIW, I tried to find contact info for Skuggi and couldn't. So I basically recreated the userbars from the ground up.--Mbear 11:38, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Year page headers

Another topic (more important): as we firm up the Year page redesign, MBear has inquired into using CSS to plug the headers into the sheets. A) is this feasible? B) Would it complicate manually transitioning the actual data into the consensus format?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 00:20, 27 March 2010 (UTC)

Depends on whether you want a template or a bot. A template is easy and completely configurable, but would have to be added by hand to each year page. A bot does everything automatically but would require actual coding (no wikicode). I'm unsure whether a bot would work in this case, though, since it would have to know where to place the banners in the page. That really requires human intelligence (or a massive amount of programming). --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 03:00, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Roger. I'm rather resigned to a long-term effort to clean up the pages by hand, anyway. Thanks.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 03:26, 27 March 2010 (UTC)
Since my name was mentioned (and not taken in vain) I thought I'd just drop in here and comment. The proposal was to add CSS classes on the three headers on the year pages. Updating the template for the year page to include those class names automatically wouldn't be a huge problem. Since we'll probably end up doing the updates by hand anyway, I thought I'd just put the idea out there. (I'm in favor of automating as much of the boring drudge work as we can.)--Mbear 17:59, 29 March 2010 (UTC)
Chiming in: Four headers, not counting the yearlist template and the category tag. However, though I know nothing about this CSS stuff ya'll are throwing around, I do want to say I too am for automatic efforts as much as possible, as long as it doesn't erase data currently published on the Year pages AND we do it before getting too far into the manual overhaul of the pages.
I'd also like to give a hearty "screw you" to Ebakunin for this idea of fixing the (broken) elephant in the room. It needed to be done, but I had been able to ignore it until he suggested a reasonable fix. Wink.gif--Revanche (talk|contribs) 18:48, 29 March 2010 (UTC)

All Purpose award

Ebakunin, in lieu of the unreleased Community Service award, I present you with the All Purpose award:

All Purpose Award, 1st ribbon

...for not only identifying a serious impediment towards helpful information (in regards to the Year pages), but suggesting and crafting a visual solution. The Year pages will be that much better because of your dedication. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 19:20, 2 April 2010 (UTC)

Missing copyright information

Hi Template:Person's name here: welcome to BTW. While we appreciate your attempts to improve the wiki with images, you failed to complete the image summary, to include the necessary copyright information for: File:Assumption of Risk.jpg. Please do so. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 21:04, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

So just kidding, dude. Good job, all around with the image summaries. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 21:04, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
I'd be happy to include a summary if I knew who the hell the people are on the cover! --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 21:08, 18 April 2010 (UTC)

Slash

Hey, morning: what does the slash after 'BR' do? Is there a different effect?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 16:19, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

It's a preference thing. Several years ago the specs for HTML were updated. The old way is <br> and the new way is <br />. The new way indicates that the tag is self-closing, for what it's worth. Since HTML is backwards compatible it doesn't really make a difference. I just prefer the more "correct" version. --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 21:57, 23 April 2010 (UTC)
Got it. Just wanted to educate myself, and that did it. Thanks. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 01:01, 24 April 2010 (UTC)

Image Import Award

Image Import Award, 1st ribbon Gave you the award for your good job with the covers! Just out of curiosity, where do the pictures come from? Frabby 06:23, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank ye kindly. The covers come from all over the Web, which is why the quality is so variable Sad.gif --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 17:34, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
Just realized I didn't explain myself well. I haven't been uploading images lately but rather applying the {{image summary}} template. However, I did upload all the covers over a year ago, so I'll still accept the award Wink.gif --Ebakunin (talk|contribs) 17:41, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
