Table formatting

Hey Neuling I found some more CSS you may want to use. My Preferences -> Skin -> Custom CSS -> Edit.

Then paste in this code:

table.wikitable {text-align:center; border: 2px solid black;background-color: gray;}

Now any table that has a class of wikitable (which is most of them) will have a black border around the outside and a gray background. And you don't have to lift a finger on the content page!--Mbear 23:32, 11 March 2011 (UTC)

Request for factions

Hey Mbear, I have a questions about the different factions an their unique equipment availability. I think it is useful to mark every variant with icons or something this way to know how has access to the machines. And could we expande the space between the variant to see where the beginning is and where the end. Neuling 19:22, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Neuling, I think that's what the categories are for at the bottom of the unit pages. If a faction is listed, it has access to the 'Mech. A 'Mech with no factions listed is available to everyone.

Wait, I just re-read what you wrote. OK. So an example of your proposal would be putting a small Federated Suns logo in front of those variants listed as being a Federated Suns unit? Ummm...adding an icon to every variant is going to be a big task, and possibly discourage contributions from new editors.--Mbear 19:56, 22 March 2011 (UTC)

Well, there are two problems with your request Doneve:

1. Consensus has not been reached (as far as I know). Neuling, please make your suggestion on the Project BattleMechs Talk page so others can contribute.
2. I don't have icon images yet. Until consensus is reached, I'm not going to make them. (I'll wait until I know the project has accepted the idea before making them.)--Mbear 01:16, 23 March 2011 (UTC)

Formatting

Neuling - If you're going to add new material to articles like the [{ER Flamer]], could you please format that material cleanly? There is no need for ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Aerospace Fighter Images

Citing sources

Hi, Neuling. I saw what you wrote on the Project BattleMechs talk page, indicating that information came from sources beyond those you listed. When I checked the information you added to BattleMech articles the other day, I checked it against the sources you cited as your references. It is important to cite all the works you reference for a particular fact or set of facts so that any other editor can verify the information is correct. I had no problem with the information you added other than the fact that I could not look it up. Does that make sense? --Scaletail 00:05, 20 September 2011 (UTC)

Pointless regimental articles

Hi Neuling. Saw you've put up articles named "1st/2nd/3rd/th Regiment", apparently sub-regiments of the 12th Star Guards brigade. Two questions here:
1) Why don't you just use a single article for the 12th Star Guards?
2) Although it's not specifically spelled out (yet) in the up-and-coming Policy:Article Naming, these names are extremely... unclear. If the articles are worth keeping at all, they need to be renamed to something like "1st Regiment (12th Star Guards)". Frabby 10:20, 14 January 2012 (PST)

Your efforts to help kill spammers are appreciated. Jumping on them as fast as you do is great. The problem is that when you remove the content, we [the admins] have to dig around to find out why you blanked the content.

Suggestions for improvement

I have seen and appreciate your work to add manufacturers to articles for different types of vehicles and designs. I have a couple of suggestions to make your additions even better. First, when you add a reference, please write the full name of the book, exactly as it appears in the title of the book's article (as an example, see Revanche's edit to the reference you added to the "Grasshopper" article). Second, use correct grammar, which includes capitalizing the first letter of each word of the title and italicizing the book title. Finally, if you could, add the book and a link to the book article in the "Bibliography" section (if it is not already there). Thanks! --Scaletail 02:02, 6 December 2011 (UTC)

War of 3039

I've helped out a bit with your project by standardizing the images and floating the table of contents to the right because it's so big now. It looks like your trying to make wiki tables that include heading sections though (====heading section====). Wikimedia won't recognize those headings if they are inside of a table. Changes to the Dieron Regulars page

I dislike the changes you have made to the page... You have changed the Units of the Dieron Regulars section into a Composition Histry section. Personally I like to use the brigade pages as a QUICK reference that links me to the Regiment where I can find out more about when they existed etc. Although I applaud you for adding all those references do we honestly need massive lists on every page of the wiki? --Dmon 13:09, 8 January 2012 (PST)

Neuling - I must agree with Dmon. (I know that may sound odd considering my AFFC work.) Another problem is that there were units in the distant past (Reunification War, early Succession Wars) where it simply isn't practical to put together an era breakdown, certainly not by year. Who knows what regiment were active in 2947? Feel free, however, to make a proposal on the appropriate military command talk page, and I promise to respond to it. Thanks. As you'll see in the changes I made to the Kingston Caballeros, I changed the category from Category:Military Commands to Category:Mercenary Commands. The top level is not to be used for individual articles, as everything should be able to fine a more specific category than simply Military Commands. I decided, based on the references you provided, that the unit was most likely a mercenary command and categorized it accordingly. Hello Mbear, I upload the insignia because they are different from yours. It was mentioned in the Field Manual: Federated Suns p. 26 that the ranks insignia changed after the seperation from the Lyran Alliance. Furthermore a few ranks were reestablished or new created. My goal is to put at every military organization page a link to a site were the the rank structure is explained with the different between naval and army. Neuling 09:28, 1 February 2012 (PST)

I think I understand, but just to be sure I do I want to rephrase what you said this way:

My goal is to create a page similar to Armed Forces of the Federated Suns Military Ranks that will contain information regarding the roles and responsibilities of the army and naval ranks are clearly defined. For example the duties of an AFFS Leftenant Colonel/Light Commodore in 3025 are different from those of an AFFS Leftenant Colonel/Light Commodore in 3067. This page will show the difference in responsibilities.

At the same time, I also want to show how the FedCom Alliance affected the rank structures of the AFFS and the LCAF, as you don't provide any information about that.

Am I reading you correctly? If so, this is a good idea and one I wish I had thought of.--Mbear^(talk)

One of the problems here is that if the maps aren't coloured, and if they don't cover that chunk of space roughly 120 light years across, then I'll have to replace them when I start churning out maps for the planets project, which will make the earlier maps nugatory work. I've already got the templates set up and pre-coloured to allow me to churn out a lot of maps very quickly - I've just been waiting for Rev to confirm the template for the new articles is agreed before I start cranking them out.
