==Magazine articles==

Hi Nic, I'd like to create a page for Magazine content related to the battletech CCG I made: http://www.sarna.net/wiki/BattleTech_Trading_Card_Game/Magazine_Content I'd like to put up ads like this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByRmfoW4q1ZkZWxyVXpvaFBxMnM Or articles like this: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0ByRmfoW4q1ZkVy1MN1ZvdTA3czA Primarily from magazines like duelist, scrye, inquest etc. Where would these fall under copyright rules?

Thanks! [[User:Kingfisherb90|Kingfisherb90]] ([[User talk:Kingfisherb90|talk]]) 18:38, 5 February 2016 (PST)

:Those links you gave don't seem to work. Anyways, about copyright: You cannot copy text verbatim to Sarna articles if somebody else has a copyright to that text. Also, Sarna doesn't seek to publish stuff; instead, this wiki has articles ''about'' publications (see also [[Policy:Fanon]]).<br />That said, just be bold, go ahead and create the article. If there's a problem, chances are somebody will help you out.<br />(I've taken the liberty to answer since Nic didn't yet. Hope that's okay.) ==2016-02-17 MediaWiki Server Upgrade to 1.26==

MediaWiki was upgraded today to 1.26 (from 1.24).  This was done due to security concerns with the old version, as well as switching away from the [http://blog.areyouahuman.com/goodbye_playthru/ AreYouAHuman Captcha] (for anonymous users) to [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ConfirmEdit ReCaptchaNoCaptcha]

Here's the full list of changed extensions:

* Removed:

** BotQuery (old API extension)

** Call (wasn't used)

** Mantle (no longer needed by MobileFrontend)

** Ploticus (no longer maintained and has security issues)

** SimpleAntiSpam (merged into MW core)

** Vector (merged into MW core)

* Updated

** AdminLinks

** ApprovedRevs

** Arrays

** CharInsert

** CheckUser

** ConfirmEdit (switched to RecaptchNoCaptcha from AreYouAHuman)

** ContactPage

** DataTransfer

** Disambiguator

** DynamicPageList

** ExternalData

** HeaderTabs

** Maps

** MobileFrontend

** NewUserMessage

** PageSchemas

** PdfBook

** ReplaceText

** SemanticBundle and related

** SphinxSearch

** TitleKey

** UserMerge

** Validator

** Widgets

** WikiArticleFeeds

** bad-behavior

Let me know of any issues.

:Not really a technical problem, but I note the "This page has been visited X times" note at the bottom of each page is gone. I felt it was useful to see how many visits individual pages got over time, to gauge their impact and relevance. If it's an easy fix then I would like to have the counter back. If not, no sweat. [[User:Frabby|Frabby]] ([[User talk:Frabby|talk]]) 06:50, 17 February 2016 (PST)

::Unfortunately MediaWiki removed page hit counters in 1.25 [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki_1.25#Hit_counters_removed]. There's an extension that restores them, but I'm not sure if it's worth the performance cost. [[User:Nicjansma|Nicjansma]] ([[User talk:Nicjansma|talk]]) 05:44, 19 February 2016 (PST)

:I'm not sure if this is related to the upgrade or not, but I've been contacted by a user over on the official forums, who's concerned that when he browses the site by phone, Sarna keeps trying to access the GPS information on his phone to identify his location. Is that something intentional, or is it a side effect? [[User:BrokenMnemonic|BrokenMnemonic]] ([[User talk:BrokenMnemonic|talk]]) 00:36, 19 February 2016 (PST)

::Hm, I'm not seeing this, is anyone else?  Often, this happens when there's other malware installed on the user's computer, and it's injecting its own ads into the site. [[User:Nicjansma|Nicjansma]] ([[User talk:Nicjansma|talk]]) 05:44, 19 February 2016 (PST)

== Hyperlinks and Quotes ==

Nic,<br>

I've spotted something weird going on with how links are handled, which I think may be an issue between how or what Sarna views as a hyperlink and the addresses of pages and messages on the Catalyst Game Labs forum. I often check things I think may be errata in the official Ask The Writers forum to get a ruling, and when I do, I record the response via the Quote function here on Sarna, like this:<br>

{{Quote|It is correct. Between 3072 and 3074, the Vipers salvaged the Conquest and utilize her at Tanis in some capacity.|[http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php/topic,28150.msg643897.html#msg643897 GhostBear (Ben Rome), BattleTech Assistant Line Developer, 28 Mar 2013]}}

<br>

Now, when I try and do the same thing, the tag including the hyperlink and message details part doesn't work:<br>

{{Quote|Total Chaos trumps JTP:D.|[http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=51654.0 GhostBear (Ben Rome), BattleTech Assistant Line Developer, 16 Mar 2016]}}

<br>

The Quote tag is set up in exactly the same way, and from poking it and trying a couple of dozen different variations, the bit it doesn't like is the hyperlink: http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=51654.0 - I'm not sure how that's mechanically different to any of the other hyperlinks, but I tried linking to the specific message:<br>

{{Quote|Total Chaos trumps JTP:D.|[http://bg.battletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=51654.msg1192095#msg1192095 GhostBear (Ben Rome), BattleTech Assistant Line Developer, 16 Mar 2016]}}

<br>

Same problem again, as you can see. Any idea what's going on, and if there's a simple fix for it, or if I'm doing something wrong? [[User:BrokenMnemonic|BrokenMnemonic]] ([[User talk:BrokenMnemonic|talk]]) 02:46, 16 March 2016 (PDT)

:In this case, it looks like the <code>?</code> in the second and third URL are causing issues *within* the <code><nowiki>{{Quote}}</nowiki></code> object.  Can you use the format of the first URL (<code>topic,28150.msg643897.html#msg643897</code>) instead of the second (<code>index.php?topic=51654.0</code>)? ==Error Message==

Hi Nic, check out the file history here: [[:File:MechV2I2.jpg]]. Dark Jaguar uploaded a wrong image at first, then uploaded a new (correct) image and asked me to delete the first one. There is in fact a "delete" button but for me it results in an error message as follows:

:<filedeleteerror-short-old>

:Error deleting file: Could not create directory "mwstore://local-backend/local-deleted/8/5/4".

No idea what's going on. [[User:Frabby|Frabby]] ([[User talk:Frabby|talk]]) 06:07, 20 March 2016 (PDT)

: Fixed! [[User:Nicjansma|Nicjansma]] ([[User talk:Nicjansma|talk]]) 17:50, 21 March 2016 (PDT)

==Red Corsair Page Error==

I am getting an error trying to access the main [[Red Corsair]] page:

'''''The www.sarna.net page isn’t working. www.sarna.net is currently unable to handle this request.'''''

The discussion page still works fine, [[Talk:Red_Corsair]], as do the history and other tabs of the Red Corsair page: [[http://www.sarna.net/wiki/index.php?title=Red_Corsair&action=history]]--[[User:Cache|Cache]] ([[User talk:Cache|talk]]) 14:31, 25 March 2016 (PDT)

:Sorry!  Should be fixed now. [[User:Nicjansma|Nicjansma]] ([[User talk:Nicjansma|talk]]) 19:16, 6 April 2016 (PDT)

Production year links in infobox/Semantic wiki

(copy from BrokenMnemonics talk page)

Hi BM, When you found time, please take a look on the BattleMech Timetable, Combat Vehicle Timetable, when i go to the year link in the infobox as example Templar it brings me to the site but the 'mech or vehicle is not listed in the table, why who is the failur!?--Doneve (talk) 10:27, 10 May 2016 (PDT)

Hi Doneve, I don't understand how the semantic mediawiki stuff works, I'm afraid. I've had a look, and I've tried tweaking the Templar file, but I can't see why the code isn't working. I had a look at the WarShip Timetable page, which I know was working, and it's now not working either. I can't see any differences between the article pages that've made it onto the list and those that haven't. This might be a question for Nic, as he installed the mediawiki stuff, unless there's someone else who understands it? I don't know enough to work out what's going on.--BrokenMnemonic

Nic please can you look inside why the Timetables dont work, thanks.--Doneve (talk) 01:43, 11 May 2016 (PDT)
