User talk:Rebs

Welcome

Welcome, Rebs, to BattleTechWiki!

We look forward to your contributions and want to help you get off to a good strong start. Hopefully you will soon join the army of BattleTech Editors! If you need help formatting the pages, visit the manual of style. For general questions go to the Help section or the FAQ. If you can't find your answer there, please ask an Admin.

Additional tips
Here's some extra tips to help you get around in the wiki:

  • For policies and guidelines, see The Five Core Policies of BattleTechWiki and the BTW Policies. Another good place to check out is our market of Projects, to see how the smaller communities within BTW do things in their particular niche areas.
  • Each and every page (articles, policies, projects, images, etc.) has its very own discussion/talk page, found on the tab line at the top of the page. This is a great place to find out what the community is discussing along that subject and what previous issues have already been solved.
  • If you want to play around with your new wiki skills, the Sandbox is for you. Don't worry: you won't break anything. A great resource for printing out is the Wiki Cheat Sheet.
  • If you're not registered, then please consider doing so. At the very least, you'll have a UserPage that you own, rather than sharing one with the community.
  • Also consider writing something about yourself on your UserPage (marked as "Rebs" at the top of the page, though only do this if you're registered). You'll go from being a 'redshirt' to a 'blueshirt,' with the respect of a more permanent member.
    • This is really helpful for the admins, as it gives your account that touch of "humanity" that assists us in our never-ending battle with spambots.
  • For your first few edits on the wiki, please do not add any URLs (which can be an indicator of SPAM).
  • Consider introducing yourself on our Discord server.
  • In your Preferences, under the edit tab, consider checking Add pages I create to my watchlist and Add pages I edit to my watchlist, so that you can see how your efforts have affected the community. Check back on following visits by clicking on watchlist.
  • If you're bored and want to find something to do, try the Random button in the sidebar, or check out the List of Wanted Pages. Or even go to Special Pages to see what weird stuff is actually tracked by this wiki.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~) or by clicking on the circled button in this image; this will automatically produce your name (or IP address, if you are editing anonymously) and the date.

Again, welcome to Sarna's BattleTechWiki!

*******Be Bold*******

Elizabeth Hazen

Hy Rebs, welcome to sarna, great to have you here, and good job. If you have some questions about formating and other thinks you can talk to me, greetings.--Doneve 05:06, 24 February 2012 (PST)

Incredble start

It's rare that a brand new BTW editor hits the ground running so quickly and so well. Regardless of your time here, I think the additional information you brought to Elizabeth Hazen was significant enought to warrant recognition:

Substantial Addition Award, 1st ribbon

Great job, and welcome aboard. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:16, 24 February 2012 (PST)

Thank You!
Excellent! Greetings back at you both.
I have been a BT/MW player since age 13. I often read here and have been talking on the boards for a little bit, figured it was time to contribute. I am armed with a nice cross section of sourcebooks, and I have read probably 2/3s of the novels. I like to write, as well as edit. In recent years I've been a slacker in BT reading, so your site and the boards are my only source on DA/AoD material. I can't wait to procure War of Reaving and Op Klondike.--Rebs 13:49, 24 February 2012 (PST)

Clan Characters

Hy Reb, i where really appriciated when you updated the Operation Klondike charachters on the wiki, the most of them are stubs, and i think you can help out to fill in this stub articles.--Doneve 16:07, 25 February 2012 (PST)

Hey Don. I would certainly love to try! I'll start from the top of the list and check the stubs first. Then later, if it is cool, I would like a shot at editing some of the ones that are already done but still require a couple revisions. Let me know what you think. Rebs 17:44, 25 February 2012 (PST)

Jade Falcon Founders Done

That was my personal project. I will be reading Op Klondike, at the end of that I'll top off the 4 founders with any pertinent info so we can remove that template from Elizabeth Hazen and I can source one or 2 more things for the others.

Any suggestions on where you veterans would like me to start as for Op Klondike Biographies, let me know it would be appreciated and welcome. Rebs 18:38, 26 February 2012 (PST)

Elizabeth Hazen

Great idea to add the succession table to Clan founder articles. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:04, 7 March 2012 (PST)

Thanks. I copy pasted Jerome Winson's and altered all the pertinent stuff, made it easy and somewhat fool proof. I have been looking for all the ways I could to keep the bios looking unified with what you all have already produced. --Rebs 12:08, 7 March 2012 (PST)

Battles

Evening, Rebs: saw you're working on battle articles too. Glad to see it. Please consider adding the Conflict infobox template to these articles. It helps add some consistent elements to like articles.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 20:43, 8 March 2012 (PST)

Hey there! I'll add the conflict box too. I have been moving residence lately, so not as much time to write as I would like up until now. With the move pretty much finished, I have also been re-reading Invading Clans, Crusader Clans and Warden Clans, so I can make sure and have the full sense of the diverse and often contradictory tapestry of Clan History up until the Tukayid time. Then I'll pick up and move through time to present with the Clans, though I should now have more than enough to do all the stub bios for founders, as well as events that took place. --Rebs 04:34, 13 March 2012 (PDT)
Sounds great, man. Have fun reading & writing!--Revanche (talk|contribs) 04:48, 13 March 2012 (PDT)

Citations

Great additions to Jerome Winson‎‎, Rebs. But please don't forget to add the citations to each paragraph. Do you need any assistance with that?--Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:12, 14 March 2012 (PDT)

I have all the refs here, and was going to add them as soon as I finish the body, as I was having a bit of trouble and got frustrated, opting to finish the writing. I have muddled through the other ones in the past, with help from the other guys. --Rebs 09:19, 14 March 2012 (PDT)
Roger, copy all. Shout out to me if you'd like help. --Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:27, 14 March 2012 (PDT)
My problem is getting the loop going for multiple cites of the same source. I'll go get the ones I did for Jen Winson and adapt them to him. It's crazy but that's how I have cited all my other stuff. My grasp of wiki citation theory is still more primal than actual. I know it works, but only through trial and error. Kind of like a comstar adept in the 3rd succesion war. --Rebs 09:31, 14 March 2012 (PDT)
I think I've got it from here, but if I need any help, I'll shout out on your page. --Rebs 09:47, 14 March 2012 (PDT)
I did laugh reading that. I know how you feel. I had many of the same hurdles when I first started wiki-ing here. Looks like it's working; you must have prayed to the right toaster.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 10:11, 14 March 2012 (PDT)
How did you know it was a toaster? Amazing. --Rebs 11:10, 14 March 2012 (PDT)

Category links

Hy Rebs, i added again category links to Jerome Winson you removed the links, i think a little accident, not a big thing, but it is much easier when we have categorys on the Bio pages for comfortable surfing, oh and great article, not much people interest the clan's, and good to have you on sarna, best wishes.--Doneve 11:18, 15 March 2012 (PDT)

Yes, I did not mean to remove those links. I didn't even notice that I had done that, so thanks for correcting it. I am noticing now Jerome Winson needs to be added to the Khans category as well. Thanks for catching that, Doneve. --Rebs 11:22, 15 March 2012 (PDT)
Thanks again Don! I'll be more careful next time. --Rebs 11:35, 15 March 2012 (PDT)

Helpfull Stuff

Hy again if you want helpfull stuff for your editing, you can take a look on my Doneve page i think you found some links there can help you.--Doneve 17:21, 22 March 2012 (PDT)

Thanks for the links! I'll use them well. --Rebs 17:37, 22 March 2012 (PDT)

Laught

Holla again, i read your experince on other wikis, i appriciate your talk, we are a family wiki, (sorry for raw writing), we have a critical view of all what it's going here, and the best way is talk, i know the one user talk this and the other talk that, talk is the best way, i wisht you a good afternoon or night, upps i must go to bed Wink.gif.--Doneve 18:15, 22 March 2012 (PDT)

Thanks man! Yeah I deleted it but it is there to be seen by those who know, heh... I saw a page one time where a former user called their entire staff petty tyrants with no power in the world but their wiki. Poisonous community atmosphere... But no problem on raw English, the main coder at TWR, Vadis, is French and I worked with him since beta and afterwards too, to give constant usable feedback. The key at first was explaining problems about the game in the terms he was familiar with, since English is a huge language and much of his knowledge of it was technical and computer oriented at that time. And I am not a computer person actually, I game and I read and write and work when I have to pay bills. ;) My point of view was the voice of the computer owner, not the computer user like most of the other people I have met on the web who know too much in some cases. But here I get to generate articles and write. Lets keep it going. --Rebs 18:41, 22 March 2012 (PDT)
The best way is you keep up your strenghts to us Lol we are the best hehehe, sarna rules.--Doneve 18:56, 22 March 2012 (PDT)
I've been pretty much just writing or getting research together for these articles, every one of them turns out to be a bigger task than I estimate at first. Lots of sources and lots of things get added over the years, and some things are altered by newer info and different spin on the old ideas by different authors and such. Or with Ethan Moreau right now. The Warden Clans is biggest source for him, but it is completely not in chronological order prior to the golden century. Then add all other sources available... And don't confuse the Pentagon Worlds or use same page numbers for diff refs on accident or or cut off the bottom catagory links when i cut out the whole thing because I have to sign back in because I took forever on an edit lol... It's a fun challenge. Glad to be here! --Rebs 19:31, 22 March 2012 (PDT)

Get your names right

Hi. You managed to get the name of the first saKhan of the Sea Foxes wrong. She is named Dianne, not Barbara in both Operation Klondike and FM:Warden Clans. Try to avoid those kind of mistakes in the future. --Neufeld 23:55, 25 March 2012 (PDT)

Sorry about that, dropped the ball there. If the article is still there, let me know, I'll port it to a Dianne Sennet page. --Rebs 05:57, 26 March 2012 (PDT)

Barbara Sennet

Why is the article empty??--Doneve 01:42, 26 March 2012 (PDT)

I slipped up and made a page for Dianne Sennet, only I confused the first name. --Rebs 14:38, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
Ah ok, thanks.--Doneve 14:52, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
Looks like the links were already fixed in corresponding articles i had linked her with. I owe the guys thanks for taking care of it. --Rebs 15:18, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
Yup, and Cyc set up a full article for Barbara.--Doneve 15:23, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
When I saw that this mornning before work, i thought "sweet! they found a picture of her!!!!" then I realized how bad I messed up. I must have read the name Dianne 100 times yesterday getting it all together for the write up, so it was really bad. --Rebs 15:37, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
Hehe i uploadet the pic. I am the picture commander with Neuling, if you want more, talk to me, oh and a cup of coffee is always well at morning Wink.gif.--Doneve 15:43, 26 March 2012 (PDT)
I'll remember that about the pics and try to remember more coffee. Last night is when i could have used it more, then everything would be fine and I would be writing and finishing the Rafe Kardaan page... which is where I am off to next. Oh by the way, Dianne Sennet needs to also be in the Clan Characters Category. Also, when I checked on Conal Ward, he also was not on the Clan Characters Category either though he should be. His article is very old though so I can understand that. If I see anymore that need to be placed there, I'll let you know. :) --Rebs 16:02, 26 March 2012 (PDT)

How to: Adding Categories

Hi. I see that you have posted request that people add categories to various pages. They are not that hard to add. They all follow the same format: [[Category: name of category]], or if there is need to get the sorting of a name right [[Category: name of category|Last name, First name]]. Also, add the categories at the end of a page, so that they are easy to find. --Neufeld 22:42, 29 March 2012 (PDT)

Thank you for the pointer. I'll definitely make use of this knowledge soon. --Rebs 06:55, 30 March 2012 (PDT)

One Month TIS

Hey, Rebs: congrats with your one month Time In Service here at BTW. I'm adding that ribbon to your awards board. But keep track of it, as this is one of two awards you update yourself. Thanks for taking part! --Revanche (talk|contribs) 09:26, 30 March 2012 (PDT)

Thank you! I'll keep it up. --Rebs 09:29, 30 March 2012 (PDT)

Images

Hy Rebs, i uploaded the images for you Smiley.gif, fell free to move the pics on other places on your well written articles, or change the thumb descriptions.--Doneve 16:03, 7 April 2012 (PDT)

They look great! Thank you for doing this. I looked at both and they were fine to me, but I'll go over them and make sure they are placed at optimum spots. Awesome stuff man. --Rebs 18:29, 7 April 2012 (PDT)

Year pages

Hy Rebs, i added and also iam in work to bring all clan characters there became some titles as saKhan and Khan's to the year pages, keep up your clan bios, i love to read this bios, best wishes.--Doneve 18:28, 27 April 2012 (PDT)

Thanks Doneve! The writing has been good lately, but I have also started to read a lot in Wars of Reaving. Lots of fun stuff in that book :) But I'll keep going, I was going to finish a few more Coyotes, then we should have enough material to do a totally complete Clan Coyote page. The Cobra page with LittleWolf worked out well, even though it needs to be finished still. That's something that will also get done. And the Smoke Jaguar Page is a lot closer to having their complete history. --Rebs 19:39, 27 April 2012 (PDT)

Wars of Reaving - Timeline

Hy Rebs, can you take a look on Wars of Reaving - Timeline page, i don't know if we need the page, ok ther's a lot of content, but poorly writen, have you any idea, i don't want to delete the page, but there must become a major cleanup, any thought, thanks.--Doneve 08:55, 1 May 2012 (PDT)

Man, you were right about it being a lot of content! I'm at about page 100 on Wars of Reaving, I'll need to finish it before I started on a project like that. But I am up for it. It needs to be cleaned up and compressed because it is simply way too long. Timelines are supposed to be lots of short entries. --Rebs 09:06, 1 May 2012 (PDT)
Yep, you hit the nail, i think we can move some content [compressed] to the year pages , oh i forgot to give you this Policy:Year Pages, i think this help how we handle the year pages, best wishes.--Doneve 09:18, 1 May 2012 (PDT)
OK. I'll finish reading then as I re-read, I'll just do 2k or 3k changes every couple nights until it's done. It won't be a problem, and it is needed. The thing is, if these events I trim are major, then you know I Have to make pages for them either then and there or eventually. --Rebs 11:05, 1 May 2012 (PDT)
Okidoky, oh i forgot to say you can email me also, when you go to the left nav bar, theres is a link to email me per sarna, but i think the personnel way is better, ;), can you send me a test email to my pers. email, thanks.--Doneve 11:16, 1 May 2012 (PDT)

Leo Koga - The Wars of Reaving Supplemental Moratorium Breach

Was reading your terrific Leo Koga‎ article when I noticed you included info from the The Wars of Reaving Supplemental, unfortunately that title is under Moratorium so information from that title can't be included on Sarna until June 21st 2012 as per Policy:Moratorium to encourage people to go out and buy it. Just maybe 1% of the article in its present and expansive state to remove for a couple of months is all. Cyc 21:57, 9 May 2012 (PDT)

No problem! I was mistaken and a bit over zealous with completing this guy. I can go ahead and change it. Edit: Already done. The parts I wrote using that info were small but easy to remember where they went. Thanks for letting me know so as to avoid any conflicts. --Rebs 21:59, 9 May 2012 (PDT)

Laura McTighe

Good article, overall. I have to point out, however, that we don't use the word "current" with respect to characters, since its completely subjective. Better to say she was Khan at the end of the War of Reavings era, or what not. ClanWolverine101 00:28, 12 May 2012 (PDT)

I was wondering about what tense to use. Her and Leo Koga are the only "living" characters I have written about. I'll leave it at "was _____ as of 3085". that should work better. --Rebs 01:09, 12 May 2012 (PDT)
Perfect! And remember - all these characters die eventually. (Except Morgan Kell. That bastard never dies.) ClanWolverine101 20:52, 12 May 2012 (PDT)
hahahahaha... and the Bounty Hunter! At least his suit never dies. --Rebs 20:58, 12 May 2012 (PDT)

Coyote Leadership Done

I'm sure there are plenty more Clan Coyote characters to find, but this is likely good for now. 27 Clan Coyote bios done (make sure you're logged in to see them). Time for some historical writing, then back to a few Operation Klondike characters and an attempt to finish up that list of stubs... if I don't get swept up in another tangent like the Coyote tangent I just finished with. --Rebs 20:50, 12 May 2012 (PDT)

May I suggest that you do Victoria Ward? She is the only one of the old ilKhans that lacks an article.--Neufeld 22:46, 12 May 2012 (PDT)
OK. The only source for her that I know is the timeline in the Era Digest: Golden Century PDF, so it will be basic for now. The Zenos Danforth article was really just tertiary sources, and that GC timeline as the primary. If you or anyone else knows of events that she would have likely been involved in, let me know because I've had a hard time finding anything else on her. --Rebs 23:10, 12 May 2012 (PDT)
Really? Well, there is at least page 158 of TRO 3067, she enforced the Uniform Designation Protocols. --Neufeld 23:23, 12 May 2012 (PDT)
Thank you, Neufeld. I forgotten that the Tech Readouts are good sources for obscure information, and not just 'Mechs. I used to copy info out of tech readout 3050 into a notebook to be shared with friends back in the day. I never realized I'd be doing the same thing 20 years later ;) --Rebs 23:48, 12 May 2012 (PDT)

50 Clan Wolf Characters/200 Clan Characters!!!

I did not do all of these by a long shot, but it is nice to see some milestones passing by. Not that long ago there was about 100 Clanners. I'm smilin'. And I have to say, it's nice that most of the unit articles were set up already by other diligent editors, makes the articles all together that much more full. I tip my hat to you all.--Rebs 18:51, 6 June 2012 (PDT)

Wars of Reaving Supplemental

Hy Rebs, i forgot to say, The Wars of Reaving Supplemental moratorium had expired, fell free to use infos from this source Smiley.gif.--Doneve 08:41, 21 June 2012 (PDT)

An Unkindness of Ravens, and the long, winding road ahead

When I last left off of a major project, Clan Snow Raven leadership was finished, Lynn McKenna is now my high-water mark, hopefully there's not too many more characters who need to have a long bio like that. I have been enjoying the hot summer in Detroit throughout July, but now I'm back to work toward finishing the last of the Operation Klondike characters that I had started on long ago... in January. Onward, toward the Fire Mandrills, Steel Vipers and Blood Spirits. --Rebs 18:11, 31 July 2012 (PDT)

Kael Pershaw pics

Hy Eric, here the links for Kael Pershaw, File:Kael Pershaw.jpg and File:Kael Pershaw 1.jpg.--Doneve 13:09, 19 September 2012 (PDT)

Thanks again, Doneve. I'm putting it all together. --Rebs 17:30, 19 September 2012 (PDT)
This is going to be one seriously good bio. :) It's about two-thirds done (I hope). Going for the marathon finish. --Rebs 13:00, 22 September 2012 (PDT)

Progress

Blood Spirit Bios were done in August, I don't know who was cooler, Karianna Schmitt or Troy Boques. Maybe Constans Cluff kicks both of their butts. Many Clan-related red links were filled in next, important little nuts and bolts pages, and then I snapped and went a little more loco than usual. The Society page is daunting and seems like it may never be done, though I'm gonna try. A few classic characters from Clan Jade Falcon and others were updated, and I added Etienne and Kael Pershaw, the latter representing my new high-water mark. I have been trying to produce these with as few edits as possible, trying for the perfect no-edit production, but that may never actually happen. There is always room for improvement, even in the best of stuff, and though I do make mistakes as well, I just can't leave well enough alone. One day, maybe this will be corrected. I'll certainly not stop trying to get better. --Rebs 09:39, 25 September 2012 (PDT)

Kael Pershaw Review

Rebs - Excellent work. This is exactly the kind of article the wiki needs. Here is a All Purpose Award, 1st ribbon. ClanWolverine101 17:00, 25 September 2012 (PDT)

Thank you, sir. It's challenging to put out something that only needs a few things edited afterwards. I have a lot of respect for the work of people like yourself and BrokenMnemonic. --Rebs 21:40, 25 September 2012 (PDT)

Steel Viper images

Hy again, can you give me the other page numbers for the other Steel Viper images you want, then i can upload today all for you.--Doneve (talk) 05:50, 24 October 2012 (PDT)

I'm back, I had to work this morning or I would have answered sooner. You are a busy man, those copy paste fixes are extensive as heck. I see what Rev meant when he said you are capable of doing jobs that anyone else would have to write a program to get done. Anyway, here's the pages for the Viper images:
It has come to my attention that I have to read Star Lord. I have it on my shelves somewhere, but never got around to reading it. Shame on me. I'll get it done. --Rebs (talk) 14:52, 24 October 2012 (PDT)
Okidoky, i start with the uploading and add the links here on your talk page. Oh the copy and paste fixes i can do that when iam at work ;), yes i have a great job and a great boss :).--Doneve (talk) 15:17, 24 October 2012 (PDT)
File:Natalie Breen.jpg, File:Perigard Zalman.jpg, File:Christopher Ahmed.jpg, File:Brett Andrews.jpg, File:Perigard Zalman 2.jpg, File:Dawn.jpg, File:Brett Andrews 2.jpg, File:Boyle Grimani.jpg
Cool! Keep them coming. Star Lord is pretty good so far. Once I'm done, I'll commence to writing. --Rebs (talk) 18:25, 24 October 2012 (PDT)

conflict infobox

Rebs, please have a look at User:Mbear/PlanetPageTest. I've got a prototype for the updated infobox up and running. I'd like to hear your thoughts. Thanks!--Mbear(talk) 07:26, 2 November 2012 (PDT)

Cool, I've seen it in a few different stages of construction. It looks sharp and very well-defined now with all the lines around the boxes. Can that be used as a sort of template for shining up other boxes? Or creating new ones? Like maybe an eventual Biography Box. It would only have to be one column, so maybe simpler to do. (yes it would be a prolonged pain to put it into all existing Bios. I call dibs on Clan bios :) This looks really good. Painstaking work. --Rebs (talk) 08:14, 2 November 2012 (PDT)
On second thought, there's rarely enough fleshed out info to warrant a infobox for bios. Lower priority. But again good work on this one!--Rebs (talk) 08:18, 2 November 2012 (PDT)

Bla Bla

Hy Rebs!, hope the family stuff comes to an end, i miss your contributions Wink.gif, thanks for involving in the nominations time.--Doneve (talk) 16:19, 16 January 2013 (PST)

I must say more after i read your updated user profile. The financial crisis in our world is terrible, all of us are blended by so called experts, in germany it was not so terrible, but iam with all people to change our silly bank system, with best regards.--Doneve (talk) 16:30, 16 January 2013 (PST)
I like what the people of Iceland did. They sent all of their crooked bankers to jail for messing up everyone's lives. Nordic people have always had a history of taking charge of government and the like - at an Allthing gathering around 1000 AD or so, the Swedes told their then-King Eric the Conqueror that if he did not stop his jerking around in useless wars in the Baltic States that they would throw him down a well, like they claimed to had done to seven other kings some time in the past. Ahhhh... simpler times. :)
It's all good though, it is almost over, and I at least helped my uncle get out of a bad situation. After this is over, I have plans. Life goes on.
Glad to have BattleTech and Sarna. You, CW and Revanche, before his break, have all been welcoming and helpfull while I learned not to make a mess, but a good article. It's all of you guy's work that I go to, click edit and really look at to see how you did certain things so I could do it that way too and keep everything consistent as much as possible. And when I asked questions, you've always helped. And everyone else too. Everyone here with more than 30 edits cares a great deal. Even ones who read and only edit sometimes are good too, as long as they aren't spambots, right? Thanks again and best regards to you as well, Doneve. --Rebs (talk) 16:49, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Thanks Eric, glad you have you here, but family stuff most become the first of all other, see you in next time.--Doneve (talk) 16:58, 16 January 2013 (PST)
Probably February. Moving date is now, pretty much, but the bank likes to drag things out until the last second in case they get a bigger offer. The annoying part is you cannot move out until the new owners have the keys, or the bank can come and change the locks while they file foreclosure on it, scrapping the deal. I already have somewhere to move and everything, so it's like living in two houses. Business as usual, right? In February, things will smooth out a lot. --Rebs (talk) 17:09, 16 January 2013 (PST)

Edit Count Awards

Hy Rebs,

Did you know that you're eligible for awards based on the number of edits you've made? By my reckoning, you've already worked your way up to the 2,000 edit count award: Edit Count (2,000) BrokenMnemonic (talk) 09:47, 22 January 2013 (PST)

Thank you, BrokenMnemonic. As you see, I am a big believer in the editing process. Wink.gif

Wasn't sure if I wanted to bring attention to my excessive edit count by posting it myself. All kidding aside, thanks, and I'm glad to try and fit in with the team here at Sarna.net as best I can. --Rebs (talk) 14:34, 25 January 2013 (PST)

Review: Perigard Zalman

Rebs - Excellent work. Really, really good. Neatly organized and informative. If I had a critique, I would have preferred more nuggets from "Falcon Rising". (But as anyone can tell you, I'm crazy about my novel nuggets.) I'm nominating you for a good article award. Well done! ClanWolverine101 (talk) 20:47, 17 February 2013 (PST)

Good advice, I was already thinking about a few personality things from that too. A quote, and more about his intense dislike for freeborns which is also endemic of his Clan. Both would come mostly from Rising. And thank you for the nod whether or not this gets it. Acknowledgment is enough. --Rebs (talk) 21:33, 17 February 2013 (PST)
Following CW's nomination, I find you easily deserve the Good Article Award: Good Article Award, 1st ribbon Frabby (talk) 05:29, 20 February 2013 (PST)
Thank you both! I've been trying. :) Rebs (talk) 09:24, 20 February 2013 (PST)

Dawn Moffat

This may sound cheesy, but independent from CW's nomination I saw, and was impressed by, your article on Dawn Moffat, for which I reckon you deserve another Good Article Award: Good Article Award, 2nd ribbon Keep up the good work! Frabby (talk) 05:29, 20 February 2013 (PST)

Something about the Steel Vipers has made me rise to the occasion. Thank you both for the recognition. :) edit: And I don't want to forget to say that there are many others who I've learned a lot from here. Heck, the Perigard Zalman article turned into something that interested a lot of people here. From all of you I've learned, and now slowly pulled it together to really slip into my role as "the Clan guy". (Which I've already been called.) --Rebs (talk) 09:24, 20 February 2013 (PST)

Biographies

Rebs,

Not ignoring you, but taking a break (as you said). To your point about adding info to biographies, I really don't care to do biographical work. It just doesn't interest me. Sorry, but I think it's better for someone who really loves doing that work to do it rather than have me half-heartedly do it. That said, I may do some of them just to clean them out of Updates Needed. ;)

I wasn't aware of your interaction w/Paul re: Royce Chapman. If you took my interaction with him as a reminder to check your writing, great! I'm glad something good came of it. (But at the same time, it wasn't fun and I didn't enjoy it.)--Mbear(talk) 05:33, 25 February 2013 (PST)

No problem, mbear, I just thought I would ask about the bios. Just in case.
As for Mr. Paul, yes and I understand how you feel, I was kind of loath to even say anything at all. But, yeah, I think if I had given him any lip or excuses I would have been hammered, and not by a banhammer, but the kind that hurts a lot more. As it is, I did understand what he meant right away, and applied it to what I do here. I think if he didn't care, he wouldn't say anything and just let us get into worse trouble eventually.
I wanted to make note that I did not see the hoopla until about a week after it had already happened. Had it been unfolding while I saw it, there's a good chance I might have jumped in, and might have gotten myself into trouble. I have a penchant for doing things like that sometimes. Probably best I saw it late, because then I just didn't want to revive it.Rebs (talk) 10:45, 25 February 2013 (PST)

Named vessels

Hy Rebs hope all is well, i fixed the the Perigard Zalman link you added on the biblio page, please notice we name different names there have bios to vessels; as example, Victoria Ward (Vessel) and so on, i hope i can help a little bit, to clear this, if you have questions please talk to me, with best regards.--Doneve (talk) 17:58, 7 March 2013 (PST)

Awesome! I was not aware that article was done yet. Thanks for the cleanup on that. I just want to make sure that this Brett Andrews document is a good one, so along the way I'm making sure everything else about him or connected with him is in line. It will be comparable to Marthe Pryde in size. Then I will seriously take a look at fixing links to ships in my coyote, blood spirit and raven articles :) while finishing up minor vipers. But first, back to this.--Rebs (talk) 18:41, 7 March 2013 (PST)
That's a great article! I like the headings by years. Very fitting decision, characters need titles for sections, but doing that for ships would be unnecessary. BrokenMnemonic did a great job! I'll go over everything on the bio side for style conformity, ship links, touch ups, edits, images and the rest - which will be soon - after this. --Rebs (talk) 20:17, 7 March 2013 (PST)
Yep, you're right, BM do a hell of job to provide some individual ship pages (take a look on the category: Individual WarShips pages), he put circa one or two hundrets of the named vessel pages to sarna, and i help a little bit.--Doneve (talk) 20:35, 7 March 2013 (PST)
Thanks for posting that link! I'll use it a lot. :) This is truly an outstanding effort.--Rebs (talk) 21:41, 7 March 2013 (PST)
What I've been doing for the various ships is breaking the history section down if it either covers several periods, or if the ship in question did a lot in a short space of time. The Perigard Zalman was only active for 2-3 years, but fought numerous battles in that time, so it seemed appropriate to break the history of the ship down by year, and where it fought more than one campaign in that year, to include sub-headings for the individual campaigns. For other ships, like the Inquisitor, I've broken the history down by era, because it was active during KLONDIKE and then again during the Wars of Reaving. I'm not looking forward to the McKenna's Pride, because that's going to be a monster of an article - I'll probably have to have a Star League history sub-section, with further sub-sections by campaign (CHIEFTAN, etc) and possibly by world, then an Exodus sub-section, then a section to cover the Clan years, and then a Wars of Reaving sub-section. Yeesh.
Oh, I should mention naming conventions, just in case you want to pre-load articles with ship names (Doneve's been a rock star with getting that done on ship class pages and the like) - the convention being used is that ship articles will use the Ship Name as the article name, but that if there is already an article with that name (typically a planet or a person) then the article uses Ship Name (Vessel) to signify that it's a vessel. If there two vessels with the same name (Swift Strike, Ark Royal, etc) then the (Vessel) part is replaced with the class name of each - so we have Swift Strike (Overlord) and Swift Strike (Fredasa), and Ark Royal (Vessel) (because we don't know what class the Martial Olympiad winner was) and Ark Royal (Conqueror).
Where there are two ships with the same name and the same class (Cold Hunter - Lola-class destroyer in the Ice Hellion touman and the Snow Raven touman) I cry and go home. BrokenMnemonic (talk) 00:16, 8 March 2013 (PST)

Brett Andrews

This one was fun at times. I did not mean for the article to be as long as it is, I've compressed the heck out of it, but not to the point that it doesn't make sense or information was left out. now that it's done, I'm going to be reading for a little while, got to recharge the batteries a bit, and I'm behind on a lot of new stuff. I'll finish up the Vipers at my leisure, start on finishing the Star Adders, and somewhere in between, Nick K will be visited by me.

I hope this article was enjoyable, again, sorry about the length (We shoot for short story sized pieces, and I try to stay within those bounds), but this is a keystone character, a bit like Darth Vader and the Emperor combined. If any blemishes are spotted feel free to adjust it as needed. --Rebs (talk) 09:18, 22 March 2013 (PDT)

Rebs - It was very good! Please enjoy a All Purpose Award, 2nd ribbon!
On a related note... I hate Ulric Kerensky. I hate him soooo much. Oh, he was a nice enough guy for an IlKhan, i suppose, given most ilKhans were evil/insane/megalomaniacs like Mr. Andrews. But he is a PAIN to write. Still, I press on. Hope to have something for the group within a few days. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 11:59, 22 March 2013 (PDT)
Hy Rebs, great article, now i know why you're not present on sarna in the last weeks ;), i see CW give you a award :).--Doneve (talk) 12:23, 22 March 2013 (PDT)
Hey guys, had to run into work for a while.
CW - Thank you sir. And I sooo understand. As you see, I should have kept this one for a day or two longer, but this morning I decided to just save it. And like usual, only then is when I noticed the last few mistakes that I did not see before. However, they weren't earth shattering, so I'm happy. If the new folks from MWO read it and then want to buy Wars of Reaving because of it, I've done well and can be happy. That's really all I care about, I want people to see the same greatness in this game and universe that I see.
Doneve - Yes, this is was the BIG time consumer. And I'm happy to say no other bio will be this long - edit: at least from me it won't be, if I can help it. There was a lot about him and his doings and commands. He was the centerpiece of my end of the universe, to be sure. Everyone else in the story simply revolves around him (until they get tired of his shenanigans. :) I Was glad I already did the Coyotes, Ravens and Blood Spirits, it made the article a lot more full. And I really liked Broken Mnemonic's WarShip articles, they also helped to keep things full, and I could relax a little about detailing the space battles. --Rebs (talk) 15:31, 22 March 2013 (PDT)

Ulric Kerensky

Rebs - I have slain the monster. Ulric Kerensky's rewritten article is done. For your approval. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 14:39, 7 April 2013 (PDT)

Hail the Slayer! First Impressions: Very tightly tuned, and over-all sleek. I have only read a little, scanned over it mostly... Looks great! Also, I am reminded of something I need to do on that future pass through all the Clan Characters of which I've spoke: faction insignia on prominent display.
Anyway, back to reading the article, I'll post again. --Rebs (talk) 19:13, 7 April 2013 (PDT)
Great article. Much better than what I could have done for it. --Rebs (talk) 12:50, 8 April 2013 (PDT)

Carson Bloodline

Well... I suppose he could be isorla from the Smoke Jaguars, who absorbed Clan Mongoose? ClanWolverine101 (talk) 13:58, 9 April 2013 (PDT)

Or from Cloud Cobra, who trialed the Jags for and won 70 or so genetic Mongoose heritages from over a dozen Bloodlines, iirc. (edit: check Josef Mannix for the details) Or they could have maybe obtained some from the Mongeese themselves in the decades of their existence as a faction. I mostly thought it was interesting because Clan Wolf looks more and more like Clan Star League all the time. Having some Carson Bloodlines only adds to their collection that includes Kerensky, Fetladral and others that I've noticed here and there. I think there were other Carsons in Wolf Clan Sourcebook. --Rebs (talk) 18:47, 9 April 2013 (PDT)
If it makes you feel any better, lookup the "Hollis" bloodline. They make an appearance in my Ulric article, too. Direct SL ties, and yet, they aren't around the Clans anymore. Guess why??? :) ClanWolverine101 (talk) 21:21, 9 April 2013 (PDT)
I saw that. The Bloodlines scenario pack looks interesting, but yeah, that's the kind of thing I don't have, and it adds so much to the article. To amend above, everyone was a SL all star, so to speak, but the Wolves have many of the biggest names. Rebs (talk) 21:33, 9 April 2013 (PDT)

New Comp

Hahaha i must laugh when i read your new status update, the new computer gives you a better view i know ;). I pocking around to buy a iMac, but my wife is not so surprised, to much mony and she love microsoft with his support and so on, but i hate Windows 8, now i work on my little laptop with Win7, and she on his comp with Win8 grrr. New update to you in next time, when i got the iMac hehehe, i hope it gives not some trouble ;).--Doneve (talk) 20:27, 13 April 2013 (PDT)

Hey Doneve! I caved in and bought a new PC, not a Mac. I would like a Mac, but like you said, too much money. It's an HP all in one, costs less than half of a Mac. It should be OK, I'm religious about anti-virus and malware tools. I once had a new Dell P4 when I first started college. I made it last for 6 years, and still, when it went down, I traded it to a friend who refurbishes computers, he gave me an IBM he just finished fixing for nothing, just a trade. It's nice to have something brand new. And this is big enough that I can watch movies on it while laying in bed across the room. And I can let my girlfriend use my old one, she just goes on Facebook and Ebay. It may be little but it's good enough to do that. Good luck getting a new machine. Macs are fun. --Rebs (talk) 21:27, 13 April 2013 (PDT)

Welcoming new contributors

Guys, I really appreciate it when editors reach out to new contributors here, like you did with Nuclear-Fridge. If there is anything that will help encourage people to do more than just a single drive-by edit, it is personal recognition and you both knocked it out of the ballpark with him. Really, thanks.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 12:19, 25 April 2013 (PDT)

Thanks, Rev. I learned it from you. I'm still taking a break because Brett Andrews drained my soul, but I check things out all the time and I'm always sympathetic to newcomers. This place can be a lot of work (done mostly by you admins), but it's fun and rewarding in its own way. --Rebs (talk) 04:05, 26 April 2013 (PDT)
Editors and admins are very similar, my friend. Each of us -individually- have areas of focus here on BTW and we do what we can in those areas.--Revanche (talk|contribs) 05:03, 26 April 2013 (PDT)

Battle of Twycross

Battle of Twycross is up. Got some Clan stuff in there. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 08:52, 1 May 2013 (PDT)

That's a really good article. Very balanced in sources, plenty of citations. Too bad there simply isn't more material about Adler Malthus and his perspective. Instead, he's just a high ranking redshirt. ;) Good article though.
One thing, there seems to have been a bold/italics snafu there in the middle about the hatchetman and the ejection system/ flying head contraption. It looks overemphasized because several lines are bold italic. Just a typo and quirk of the wiki, but other than that I didn't see any other typo.--Rebs (talk) 06:52, 2 May 2013 (PDT)
Yeah, Mbear fixed that for me. The problem is using an apostrophe s when we use apostrophes in the code.
Adler Malthus had a brief write up in the Battle for Twycross scenario pack. I used a couple of bits from that bio, but like you said, it was pretty minimal. Still, I'll give him his own write up in good time. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 07:58, 2 May 2013 (PDT)
Cool. Think you might hit Taman Malthus too? It would make sense. I've thought about doing a write up for him too, he's pretty interesting, and his actions display what can be cool about a clanner. But I would gladly not write it if you wanted it. I've got a full plate.--Rebs (talk) 08:16, 2 May 2013 (PDT)
I want to do Taman. Unfortunately, I don't have a reading copy of Assumption of Risk. Still, he's on my (ever-growing) list. ClanWolverine101 (talk) 09:41, 2 May 2013 (PDT)
I think Adler goes with the Taman Malthus package ;) Should be only a few paragraphs at most, right? --Rebs (talk) 14:47, 2 May 2013 (PDT)
