Spectral classG3V[1][2]
Recharge time184 hours[1][2]
Recharge station(s)Nadir[1][2]

The Weingarten system was home to at least one habitable world, Weingarten III, and as at 3145 was located in the Clan Hell's Horses Occupation Zone.[3][4]

System Description

The Weingarten system is located near the Thannhausen and Volders systems[3][4] and consists of a class G3V primary orbited by at least three planets. During the thirty-first century a recharge station was in place at the system nadir jump point.[1][2]

System History

The Weingarten system was settled by the Lyran Commonwealth during the Star League era at some point after the end of the Reunification War.[5][6]

Weingarten III

Template:InfoBoxPlanetStandard

Weingarten III - more commonly known simply as Weingarten - is the third planet in the Weingarten system and has a single moon named Winetraube. During the late thirty-first and early thirty-second centuries Weingarten was the administrative capital of the Clan Wolf Occupation Zone.[1][2]

Planetary History

Early History

Weingarten was best known for its vast wine industry. The mild weather and long growing seasons made Weingarten ideal for growing crops, particularly grapes. The unique soil composition of Weingarten provided a flavor that couldn't be reproduced anywhere else in the Inner Sphere; wine from the world is highly prized which leads to large profit margins for exporters.[1]

For most of its history Weingarten was ignored by military forces. It lacked strategic importance, defense industries, or vital resources, so occupiers simply changed the planet's administration and raked in the profits from the wine trade.[1]

Fourth Succession War

Weingarten was one of the worlds attacked in the opening wave of Operation GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG, the major Lyran Commonwealth offensive of the Fourth Succession War. The attack on Weingarten was intended to capitalise on the historic pattern of assigning new recruits to Draconis Combine Mustered Soldiery units at specific times of the year, a bad habit that the DCMS had fallen into over the years. When the Fifteenth Lyran Regulars landed on Weingarten they found that the First Sun Zhang Training Cadre had one battalion of green troops unfit for battle, while the other two battalions were located at bases located on different parts of the planet.[7]

The Fifteenth Lyran Regulars went on to conquer Weingarten, with the heaviest fighting of the campaign occuring when a DCMS armor regiment attempted to prevent a battalion of the Fifteenth from entering the city of Buson Bay until the last of the First Sun Zhang had been able to evacuate.[7]

Operation REVIVAL

In November 3051 with the start of the Fifth Wave of the Clan Invasion the planet was defended by local militia units, the First and Fourth Weingarten Armored Militia Regiments, but at Ghilly Ridge the majority were surrounded by the Seventh Battle Cluster and taken prisoner. With their capitulation the planetary government went into exile and Clan Wolf's Merchant caste followed the same path as previous conquerors. The Wolves barely acknowledged that the world was part of their occupation zone and enjoyed the profits.[8][1]

Life continued as normal on Weingarten until the Word of Blake's 3070 strike on Tamar. With so much of the planet irradiated, a new administrative center had to be found quickly. Weingarten was selected by the Clan Wolf leadership, and a month after Tamar's destruction they arrived. Expanding the live-fire ranges and military bases they had created, the Wolves plowed under multiple vineyards and commandeered many administrative buildings. By 3079 it was the administrative capital of the Wolf Occupation Zone.[1]
