The Wildwood system was home to at least one habitable world, Wildwood II, and as at 3145 was located in the Magistracy of Canopus.[2][3]

System Description

The Wildwood system is located near the Herrmaz and Techne's Revenge systems.[4]

System History

The Wildwood system was settled at some point during or prior to the Age of War, but only became significant enough for Inner Sphere nations to record its location on maps during the Reunification War.[5][6]

Wildwood II

Wildwood II - more commonly known simply as Wildwood - is the second planet in the Wildwood system.[1]

Planetary History

Wildwood was a member of the Magistracy of Canopus when a Star League Defense Force task force under the command of Captain-General Marion Marik was assigned to conquer the Magistracy in 2577. Wildwood was targeted by the SLDF in the closing stages of the war after the capture of Canopus IV in 2584.[7]

Wildwood was defended by the Second Canopian Light Horse and Buquoy's Bandits; the SLDF landed the VII Corps' Fifty-ninth Brigade and 401st Independent Regiment on Wildwood in 2587 with the Second Oriente Hussars in support. Despite being outnumbered almost three to one the MAF regiments contested the invasion, but were forced to retreat to the world of Kossandra's Memory; with the capture of Cate's Hold and the defeat of the garrison there in April 2587, the Second Light Horse and Buquoy's Bandits were the only major units from the Magistracy Armed Forces still active within the remains of the Magistracy.[7][8][9]

In the thirty-first century Wildwood was a lush and very sparsely populated planet nearing the outer edge of the Magistracy of Canopus. In spite of a small population, Wildwood was the largest producer of wine and other agricultural products in the Magistracy. The planet was essentially demilitarized with the only defenses being a series of automated orbital platforms. Wildwood also fostered a huge tourism industry, especially popular for its tremendous avian population. The demilitarization along with the lack of heavy industry had led to Wildwood being largely spared the strife most of humanity had suffered in the post-Star League era.[1]

As of 3068, the economy on the planet was booming, although a slowing in Taurian visitors was encountered due to the upheaval in the Concordat at the time. The lush western continent with its unspoiled ancient forests and abundant game[10] had become a very well-known adventure and vacation destination.[11] The early 3060's brought Bio-Edge to Wildwood. This ultra-high-tech pharmaceutical manufacturer managed to produce some of the top-selling pharmaceuticals in the entire Inner Sphere within six years of establishment on Wildwood. Bio Edge was also purported to be very close to several different profitable ventures in the bio-sciences.[10]

Wildwood's Dolphin Island had become the home of the Whatever Commune, founded by freethinker Connor Henry in 3053. This colony was inhabited by a group of relaxed folk who considered loafing to literally be a sacrament. For this they received a small stipend from the Canopian government for what had been wryly described as "amusement value". In the agricultural heartland of the planet representations of the Greek goddess of abundance, Demeter, were a common sight.[12]

Interesting to note is the question of how a planet with only some thousands of permanent population in 3025 had achieved so much within the next forty years. This tiny permanent population was able to be the "major" agricultural producer for billions of Canopians, home to the second largest producer of pharmaceuticals for several trillion people across the inner sphere, boast a significant tourism industry and yet still have significant portion of the population to be a devoted set of idlers.[citation needed]
