Unit Description

XXX Corps (or the Thirtieth Corps) was one of the seventy-two Corps that made up the Star League Defense Force. Prior to the collapse of the Star League XXX Corps consisted of 5 divisions and 2 independent regiments. [1]

History

In 2764 XXX Corps was part of the Twelfth Army, assigned to District 2 of the Lyran Commonwealth Military Region.[1] The performance of XXX Corps during the Star League era bore little relation to the many nicknames levelled at it over the decades - nicknames originating from a combination of the numbering system used by the SLDF for Corps, and a system for rating entertainment media on ancient Terra. In 2764 XXX Corps was deployed in a pattern that seemed odd at first glance - the Corps was spread out in a rough line from the heart of the Commonwealth towards the border of the Rim Worlds Republic, ready to react in response to any raids or incursions from the Periphery regardless of how far past the borders the raiders struck.[2]

Life wasn't entirely easy for XXX Corps, however; in 2763 General Mohammed Nagenda, the commanding officer of XXX Corps, was promoted and posted out of XXX Corps to command the SLDF Eleventh Army. His replacement, Erwin Moeller, was promoted from within XXX Corps, leading to a chain of promotions to fill the various empty posts; the process led to two of the divisional commanders within XXX Corps being left resentful and disgruntled over Moeller's promotion, each feeling that they were a better candidate for the Corps command post. Fortunately, Moeller was able to rely on his direct command staff, who were left largely unchanged after his promotion and who continued to pick up a substantial share of the workload as Moeller learned the intricacies and responsibilities of his new post.[2]

In addition to the command problems posed by Major Generals Chiana Barclays and Trevor Chan - although Barclay was actively working to overcome her resentment by 2764, unlike Chan - Moeller's most significant problems related to supply and logistics. Problems within the SLDF were delaying shipments of restricted materiel to XXX Corps, causing shortfalls of certain items like BattleMechs, while superior or more advanced equipment was also passing through the XXX Corps operational area to the Twentieth Army as it redeployed; it was galling for the XXX Corps personnel to see equipment going to the Twentieth while the Corps suffered shortfalls.[2]

When the simmering violence and rebellion building in the Periphery erupted with the New Vandenberg Uprising and subsequent Periphery-wide uprising in 2765 XXX Corps was deployed into into the Periphery Military Region along with the rest of the Twelfth Army.[1]

XXX Corps took substantial losses in the Periphery Uprising, losing the Ninety-seventh Mechanized Infantry Division and the Fifty-first Hussar Regiment before the end of the campaign. The reduced XXX Corps then fought through the Hegemony Campaign, taking heavy damage; the Jotun Division and the Brights of Brewler were both destroyed outright, and the 118th Mechanized Infantry Division had to be disbanded as a result of the losses taken during the campaign.[1]

Of the units that were still intact in 2784, the Chara Division elected to follow General Aleksandr Kerensky on the Exodus. Although it is known that the 123rd Mechanized Infantry Division survived the 12-year campaign to free the Hegemony, it's final fate is currently unknown.[1]
