- After reading about the original Firebird built in 2400, I found I rather fancied it. So I built one with the intent of "modernizing" it. One led to two, and pretty soon I had a progression of five variants, each with different levels of tech, costs, etc.

- The Firebird II rectifies a lack of aft weapons, modernizes the power plant and adds extra fuel. Just a basic 3025 glow up.
Firebird III
Code: AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout VALIDATED
Class/Model/Name: Firebird III Tech: Inner Sphere / 3058 Vessel Type: Aerospace Fighter Rules: Level 2, Standard design Rules Set: AeroTech2

- A late Clan Invasion era variant, it adds extra flexibility in the form of an LBX Autocannon, adds a Medium Pulse Laser to the nose alongside it and upgrades the Small Lasers from the Firebird II into ER versions. The powerplant is bigger than the Firebird II as well, while the Firebird III also mounts just a little bit more armor.
Firebird IV
Code: AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout VALIDATED
Class/Model/Name: Firebird IV Tech: Inner Sphere / 3062 Vessel Type: Aerospace Fighter Rules: Level 2, Standard design Rules Set: AeroTech2
Mass: 45 tons Length: 15 meters Power Plant: 135 Fusion Safe Thrust: 5 Maximum Thrust: 8 Armor Type: Standard Armament: 1 Rotary AC/2 2 Medium Laser 2 LRM 10 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Class/Model/Name: Firebird IV Mass: 45 tons

- A FeComm Civil War era variant that changes around a lot from the Firebird II & III. The armor has been increased by a good margin, with a full ton added to the nose and a half ton to both sides. The Medium Pulse Laser of the Firebird III has been downgraded to a standard version, while the Small Lasers of the Firebird II & III have been completely removed. A Class 2 Rotary Autocannon has been mounted in the nose, while CASE is used to protect the vulnerable ammo. This variant has only three tons of fuel, identical to that of the version that was produced in 2400.
Firebird V
Code: AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout VALIDATED
Class/Model/Name: Firebird V Tech: Inner Sphere / 3063 Vessel Type: Aerospace Fighter Rules: Level 2, Standard design Rules Set: AeroTech2
Mass: 45 tons Length: 15 meters Power Plant: 135 Fusion Safe Thrust: 5 Maximum Thrust: 8 Armor Type: Standard Armament: 1 LB 2-X AC 2 ER Medium Laser 2 LRM 10+ArtIV 2 ER Small Laser ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Class/Model/Name: Firebird V Mass: 45 tons

- Another FedComm Civil War era variant, the Firebird V swaps out the Medium Pulse Laser of the Firebird III for an ER version, and upgrades the aft Medium Laser to ER spec as well. The Firebird V also downgrades the powerplant of the Firebird III, making room for Artemis IV and CASE.
Firebird VI
Code: AeroTech 2 Vessel Technical Readout VALIDATED
Class/Model/Name: Firebird VI Tech: Inner Sphere / 3063 Vessel Type: Aerospace Fighter Rules: Level 2, Standard design Rules Set: AeroTech2

- Yet another FedComm Civil War variant, this version is just a Firebird V on steroids. An XL powerplant gives the Firebird VI the same speed as the Firebird III, while retaining the Artemis IV and CASE of the Firebird V. The nose mounted ER Medium Laser has been swapped out for a Pulse version, giving the Firebird IV and edge in close range combat. The armor protection has been ever so slightly reduced, however the use of Ferro-Aluminum saves a great deal of weight. In all other regards, the Firebird IV is identical to a Firebird V.

A good use of the airframe.

Like the original, I worry about the low thrust, and the use of an AC/2 but, for much of the time, it was the only game in town for extreme range weapons. That said, hitting at that range is hard. But, given how dammed pretty the Firebird is, I’m glad to see people working with it.
