Overview :
Finding a need for an escort for its Phalanx Battleship the Republic Admiralty put forth design criteria for a vessel that could go toe to toe with Star League Frigates, corvettes and stand a fighting chance against a destroyer. With the budget that was being stretched thin with the Phalanx project many of the expensive high tech weaponry and armor was not considered for the Raven project.
Using standard armor and standard weapons that were easily manufactured the cost of the vessel was keep to a minimal level.
Capabilities :
The Raven Frigate class was designed as an escort for the Phalanx class Battleship. Designed to go toe to toe with the Congress and other ships of same or lighter weight. In the designing of this as with all Republic warships the class was given ample aerofighters to help defend merchant flotillas or attack enemy warships.
Deployment :
The deployment of the Ravens was to be 7 per fleet or 1 per Phalanx Battleship. The Amaris Crisis would prove to be devastating to the class. Of the 25 left with the three fleets guarding the Republic only one would be captured. Of the 25 that would be in the Hegemony three would be captured at New St Andrews. The 4 Raven ships were put to use as transport ships during the Exodus adn mothballed soon after the arrival at the pentagon worlds. 2 would be activated by rebels and destroyed during the long bloody Civil War. The other two would lanquish in a cahe fleet depot until claimed by the Not Named Clan. 1 was destroyed while the other was captured by Clan Wolf forces. The ship was unmanned and just floating in space, thinking it a trap the Wolf marines boarded her and found her to be safe. Taking the prize to a Clan Wolf Naval depot she was left for 200+ yrs until Clan Wolf decided to activate her after the Great Refusual War.
