In 3068 the need for a partol vessel that was both realitively inexpensive and

Several companines came up with different versions and offered a large and
vast number of vessels, the Reyondals Aerospace Corp went a different route.
Cashing in on their Type 200 Cargo Shuttle, they made minor adjustments and
soon had the Type 200 Partol Cutter.

Wow. If pirates are attacking shipping, then they probably have fighters - or dropships - that could eat these patrol cutters alive. That's armored like a conventional fighter, but costs as much as a heavy fighter.

That is one possible outcome, the idea isn't for the ship to fight off the whole pirate force, but more of we found them and report back kind of thing, while also at the same time doing other duties as would a Coast Guard vessel, Search and Rescue and other boring but needed duties.
