Overview: The Hyperion was introduced in 3095 to the Gladiatorial Circuit as a testbed mech for the recently resurrected Randam Mechworks.
Needing an iconic design to mark their relaunch they spent great effort in producing a cheap, but powerful mech, equipped with modern technology. Having established that the Atlas was the pattern they were looking for they set up making a mech that would be just as fearsome and imposing as the venerable Star League Design.
Capabilities: The Hyperion is designed as a scrapper mech with heavy short and medium range firepower, massive armour and an imposing appearance.
The main weapons are a Heavy PPC boosted by a capacitator and an MRM40 with ample ammunition for extended fighting. Secondary weapons include the versatile MML-9 and a pair of Light PPC's mounted into the arms.
The rugged and reliable 300 VLAR engine gives it a top speed of 54kph.
16 double strength heat sinks help it keep weapon heat in check, though pilots are advised to keep an eye on the gauge nevertheless.
Given that Randam Mechwerks was still recovering from the destruction the WOB had visited upon its manufacturing capacity the Hyperion was conceived as a tough and reliable fighting machine, ideally suited to operate alongside more advanced and specilialised machines.
Battle History: The Hyperion was produced in small numbers for various military forces around the Inner Sphere, including the Republic, Successor States and Periphery realms.
It proved to be a solid, no frills design, though it wasn't popular with mechwarriors used to more advanced and fine-tuned mechs which had fewer heat problems.
Nevertheless the Hyperion is still in demand in the 32nd century and like its fellow Titan, the Atlas it is considered a fearsome foe.
Variants: One variant drops the Light PPC's for a pair of Medium X-Pulse lasers and twin rear-firing ER Medium Lasers. This variant is designed for pilots who prefer to fight at close range.
Similarly a long range variant replacing the MRM40 with an LRM 20 and artemis FCS is available as a long range fire support mech.
The DCMS version replaces one ton of MRM ammo with a C3 slave for integration in its networked units.
Although not mounted as standard on the Hyperion, Triple Strength Myomer is available as an option and upgrade package.

*NOTE*
Based on the discussion about the Atlas II, I decided to tinker with a design that was similar in in purpose to the Atlas, but with a very different weapon array. Code:

Small favor could you use the CODE tag so as to make this a little easier to read.
