==Overview:==
The Reef Class was unveiled by Clan Goliath Scorpion soon after the introduction of the Undine Battlearmor suit. Serving as guardians of the depths deep in the oceans of Dagda, protecting the underwater mining colonies and settlements, these unique craft serve as underwater battlearmor transports. Although slow, they are heavily armed and armored, and allow to sustain Undine operations in areas formerly inaccessible due to the lack of support bases.

==Capabilities:==
The Reef is 42 meters long and 10 meters wide. From the top of the upper turret to the bottom of the lower torpedo turret, the Reef is 8 meters in height, with the hull itself being 5 meters tall.

The hull is of a double hull construction, but of a special sort. The outer, unpressurized hull carries the armor plating, while the inner hull is divided into five sections, each also sub-divided by flood-doors and bulkheads. Along the center of the Reef, is a long cylindrical chamber which hosts the crew compartments and controls, behind it, a smaller, but similar chamber serves as the enginnering section. Two additional cylindrical sections along the sides of the vessel house a Star of Undines each, along with the airlocks required to launch them and the spartan crew accomodations for the troopers. The final pressurised section is the bottom turret, accomodating the two gunners. The sections are connected by a series of airlocks, allowing the vessel to operate even if one compartment is flooded, or atleast allow the crew to survive.

Each Reef Class vessel is capable of carrying two full stars of Elementals in Undine battlearmor, as well as supporting them with repair facilities and accomodations for the length of a patrol mission, including a limited capacity MASH unit. Although the accomodations are spartan at best, far worse than even the accomodations aboard the smallest of starships, they do offer minimal recreational facilities such as personal displays and computers built into the bunks. But even so, a Reef class submersible at full capacity is hardly an enjoyable place to be in.

The Reef carries a crew of 20, typically working in two shifts of 10 men each. A Reef may, at the cost of some Battlearmor capacity, take up an additional ten crew members for extended operations, sacrificing from 5 to 15 troopers to make room for extra men and additional supplies. The crews of the Reef class of submarines are a mix of castes. The first and second officers, as well as the operator and gunner compliment make up for the main share of the ship's crew, totalling 12 men from the warrior caste. Four additional crewmembers are members of the technician caste and maintain both the Reef itself and the battlearmor suits it carries. Another is a member of the scientist caste, and takes care of the medical duties aboard the ship in the ship's small, yet advanced MASH theater and the last crewmember of the ship is a member of the laborer caste and serves as the ship's cook, as well as being assigned additional duties when neccesary. In addition, atleast one point of elementals recieves training in underwater repairs and the technicians are rudimentaly trained in the operation of Undine battlearmor for the same purpose.

Warriors dislike Reef assignment, as the position rarely offers the opportunity for combat glory and the combat positions aboard a Reef class submarine are often assigned to either older warriors or those who have failed their initial trial of position and have been given a second chance, the former usually fill the command positions and the latter usually fill the crewman positions aboard the vessel. This often leads to arguments and disrespect from the elemental contingent aboard the Reef, who are rotated between front-line and Undine Reef duty. Contrary to the attitude among the warriors, the members of the lesser castes crave Reef assignments, as it brings them nearly in par with the warriors aboard the ship.

As the Reef is almost always the center of a formation, and since the commander of the vessel coordinates the operations of two full stars of battlearmor he is often assigned the rank of Star Captain. Elder warriors from nearly all branches of aptitude fill these positions, often serving past their sixties, a rarity among the clans. The second officer aboard the Reef carries the rank of Star Commander and handles the duties aboard the ship when the Captain is off-duty.

The Reef is slow. Its 270 XL Fusion engine can only propel it at speeds of around 11-12 kph while submerged, and at 21-22 kph while on the surface. This limits the speed of deployment of Undine troopers, who in fact outspeed their mothership three times over, but since the ship is not designed to chase an enemy, but rather allow for a temporary base of operations to be established, this was deemed acceptable, although it still is a serious liability due to which the Reef requires escort.

Heavily armored and armed, the Reef is a powerful underwater combatant when pressed, although usually, it is supposed to stay outside an engagement, or support its Starmates and Undines from afar. Capable of taking 9 ER PPC blasts to its front and 7 to the sides, it is a highly survivable vessel, although the rear is less armored, due to the propulsion systems located there. The weapons on the Reef are located in two turrets, one on the upper side of the craft, atop the dorsal fin and the other suspended from below the craft. The small upper turret is remotely operated and carries the Reef's only open air armament in the form of a single Large Pulse Laser. The lower turret carries a massive torpedo array to deter attackers, as well as a gunner's cupola. Both turret tracking systems are intertwined, disallowing for splitting fire between both turrets. A backup control system for both turrets is located within the hull, but it has less operational modes and functions than the full system in the gunner's cupola. With a total of 220 Long Range Torpedo tubes, the Reef can put up a menacing defense of itself and provide long range support for its Undine operators. Sixty of the tubes are front mounted, 140 of the torpedoes are located in the lower turret and twenty tubes provide defense for the vessel's rear. Each torpedo rack is provided with 10 reloads and all are fed from three separate central magazines. In addition to the long range torpedoes, the Reef carries 30 short ranged torpedo tubes, with six mounted front, six rear, six port, six starboard and the last rack mounted alongside the Large Laser in the top turret. A maritime version of the Guardian ECM masks propulsion noises and an advanced sonar array allows for improved detection capabilities.

==Battle History:==
No recorded engagements by Reef Class submarines have been recorded, although several Undine operations, assisted by Reef transports have been successful, but as this is usally attributed to the unique capabilities of the Undine suit, the Reef itself is often forgotten.

==Variants:==
Only one official variant of the Reef is officially produced, but out of the few vessels that exist, some have modified the weapon systems to some extent, either replacing some long range torpedoes with short range ones, or vice versa.

The Long Range Patrol version of the Reef sacrifices the front and rear Long Range Torpedo tubes and devotes additional space for crew accomodations. Although still cramped, it is much better in this regard than the original Reef.

==Deployment==
Deployed in limited numbers on the Ocean world of Dagda and only by Clan Goliath Scorpion, the Reef is truly a unique vessel among the Clans. Mixed intelligence report of usage of the Reef Class on other water-rich worlds arise from time to time, but atleast officially, according to the Goliath Scorpion Touman, the Reef is only deployed on Dagda.

It is assumed that less than 20 of these vessels exist, although tracking an uncommon military units such as a submarine is extremely difficult.

Nice job, very well written, now if I had HMPro, I'd slap this into Megamek and eat some mechs alive.

But alas, I don't.

Want me to e-mail you the HMVee design file, just stick it into the mechfiles folder in MegaMek and yer good to go.

If you do use it, tell me how it goes

Yes please, It kinda sucks that The Drawing Board can't be used with Megamek.

Then I'd test run most of my machines, as it stands, they're all in theories, that are apparently pretty badass.
