Finding their selves in need of a replacement for the aging 30 ton Comanche, the Vondor Imperium put out word that they would be looking for bids and entires for a 30 ton mech that meets the following critria:
(LEVEL 1 Tech ONLY)
30 tons Top Speed 12 to 14 Run if possible Armor between 4 to 6 tons Weapons:
At least one Long Range Ammo feed weapon. Two or more secondary engery weapons.
Entries must be in by the 31st of Decemeber.

Hmm...nice to see a design challenge up again, but those criteria are pretty restrictive...L1, 30 tins, 4 tons armour, 8/12/0leaves 5.5 tons free...3 tons for LRM5 + ammo leaves 2.5 tons for 2 energy weapons...
I only see about 3 or 4 possible combinations here :-(

VDR-7V Vanderveen
30 tons
Chassis: Wells 990 Power Plant: PlasmaStar 240 Cruising Speed: 86 Maximum Speed: 129 Jump Jets: none Jump Capacity: none Armor: Durallex Light Armament: 1 Shigunga LRM 5 4 Dodd Small Lasers Manufacturer: Johnson 'Mechworks Inc. Primary Factory: Soul Communications System: Sony MSF-21 Targeting and Tracking System: Wayne Marksman
Overview: When word reached top JMInc. executives about the Vondor Imperium's call for a new light 'Mech design, they immediately called on their senior designer, known for bizarre, yet oddly effective concept 'Mechs. After presenting him with the design restrictions, they had only one additional request: "Please keep this one normal!"
Normal, however, is a dirty word in the JMInc. design department.
Luckily for the executives, the criteria left little room for foolishness. Unluckily for them, the senior designer is as creative as he is eccentric, and the VDR-7V Vanderveen is the startling result. Following the Vondor Imperium's criteria, the VDR-7V Vanderveen is 30 tons, carries 4.5 tons of Durralex Light armour, has a top speed of 129 km/h, and sports both long- and close-range weaponry. The 5-barrel LRM rack is unsurprising, being the only rack light enough to fit the available space, but the rest of the design takes a left turn from Normality.
First, the JMInc. team decided to enhance both stability and mobility by using a quad chassis. Armour was concentrated on the body of the 'Mech, leaving the legs only lightly covered (legs are, after all, somewhat expendable on a quad...) in order to better protect the weaponry. The Shigunga LRM rack was placed just above the cockpit, using the 'Mech's head movement as a limited turret (and, incidentally, giving the poor 'Mechwarrior a nasty jolt whenever it's fired, owing to that particular model's high recoil). As a crowning touch, the 'Mech mounts a mass of Dodd Light Lasers rather than the expected pair of ubiquitous Martell Mediums, one pair in the Center Torso, and a single rear-mounted(!) laser on each side.
While the JMInc. designers have high hopes for the Vanderveen, the execs are once again shaking their collective heads in disbelief over how something so odd could result from such restrictive design criteria.
Capabilities: Bizarre design concept aside, the VDR-7V Vanderveen has a role, and the tools to perform it effectively and with style. A brisk top speed coupled with quad mobility and stability allow it to move at speed through all but the worst terrain, and get itself in and out of trouble in a heartbeat. The light missile rack allows it to engage at range, or harrass fleeing enemies, while the front- and rear-mounted light lasers provide protection against vehicles and swarming infantry.
Modest firepower plus the mobility to get that firepower where it's most needed make the Vanderveen a decent Jack-of-all-trades-master-of-none light 'Mech, almost certainly worth it's cost.

DLL-X1A Dady Long Legs

Overview: 25 When Vondor Imperium requested design submitions for a Commando replacement, CCL was caught unready. They had been performing trials on a new chasis / engine combination, but the design's orignal speed was signifigantly below that requested by Vondor Imperium. While they could increase the speed slightly without redoing the entire chasis (by replacing the JJs and the medium lasers with a larger engine and 2 small lasers, bringing movement up to 7/11/0), they thought that the abilities provided by the jump jets and the second medium offset the reduced speed enough to make it worthwhile.
For weapons, they decided to forgo the expected LRM rack and install one of the Match Grade serries of autocanon (the Class D model). While damage output of this weapon is low, it's range and accuracy is unmatched on the 3026 field. Mounted in a near-turret like mounting on the right torso, it's mating with the chasis provides for an excellent firing platform for long range sniping. The paired Martell lasers are in the same mounting, on ether side of the AC. This allows fore quick replacement of damaged parts while in the field. Unfortunately, it also increases the odds something bad happening to them all at once instead of just one at a time...

Greetings all. Attached is the SCLP-1X Scalper. Near as I can tell, I stayed within the guidelines, with one exception. With a 240 rated engine (120kph), I simply could not build the mech I had envisoned in my mind. So, I dropped it down to a 210 (111kph), put the mech together, and adjusted the fluff accordingly. Beyond that though, the mech should be legal. If there's any other issues, just give a holler. Oh, and yes, I did deliberately put a hatchet on a light-mech. - coldwave ************************************************************************************* SCLP-1X Scalper
Mass: 30 tons Chassis: Scalper MK1 Power Plant: Vlar 210 Cruising Speed: 75.25 Maximum Speed: 118.25 Jump Jets: none Jump Capacity: none Armor: SimplePlate Manufacturers Type M Armament: 1 LRM 5 2 Small Lasers 1 Medium Laser Manufacturer: Kater&Kater Mech Foundaries Primary Factory: Kater&Kater Mech-Works Communications System: Sony MSF-21 Targeting and Tracking System: Omicron VII
Overview: When Kater&Kater Mech-Foundries received the call for a new 30 ton battle-mech, the Kater twins knew this was their chance to enter the big time. Having only just retooled their factory from tank to mech production, the business needed a contract fast. The Research and Development department was immediately sent the design requirements and told that they had a mere three weeks to complete the design concept, and then an additional two weeks to build it. The design was completed in record time, and so four weeks later, the SCLP-1X Scalper was sent for testing.
Capabilities: Designed with versatility in mind, the Scalper is ready to combat enemy threats at all ranges. Equipped with a Deadeye Long Range Missile launcher, one Diverse Optics Type 20 Medium Laser, and two Diverse Optics Type 10 Small Lasers, the Scalper is easily a threat for most any other light mech. The icing on the proverbial cake comes in the inclusion of a Battle Hatchet specifically built for this mech. The mech itself has a surprisingly sinister appearance for its class. Inspired by historical Terran documents depicting tribesman in ceremonial battle garb, the mech is coated dark brown, green, and yellow color tones. This is especially accented on the mech's head, as it is sculpted to look like that of a battle scarred, war-painted, and very angry man. The physical stature of the mech is roughly the same as that of a phoenix-hawk, but it has a more muscular build giving the impression of great strength and power. All this combined with the aggressively curved and serrated battle-hatchet gives the Scalper the appearance of an ancient warrior of the past, come forward to inflict pain and suffering on his enemies. Unfortunately, a problem in shipping resulted in the planned Magna 240 engine being lost in transit, and a spare Vlar 210 had to be used in its place. Consequently, the mech is only capable of 111kph, but this is slightly offset by the room freed for additional equipment. Although not exactly what was planned, the designers are still happy with the over-all results, and thus the first proto-type was successfully shipped in time for the competition.

Type/Model: Sidewinder SX-1 Tech: Inner Sphere / 3025 Config: Biped BattleMech Rules: Level 1, Standard design
Mass: 30 tons Chassis: Standard Power Plant: 240 Pitban Fusion Walking Speed: 86.4 km/h Maximum Speed: 129.6 km/h Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor Type: Standard Armament: 1 LRM 5 2 Medium Lasers Manufacturer: Defiance Industries Location: Hesperus II Communications System: Build 1685 Tacticom Targeting & Tracking System: Alexis Photon Targeting Acquisition System
==Overview:== The Sidewinder is a replacement design for a 30 ton Comanche for the Vondor Imperium. It meets all requested requirements.
The Sidewinder SX-1 is an agile and versitile mech. Designs were started by Defiance Industries when the Vondor Imperium requested a new 30 ton Commache with certain requirement. The first requirement met was the requested top speed, which was done by the use of a Pitbull 240 Fusion engine. The next requirement met was the need for two laser weapons minimum. Defiance used two 3 class Aldis Medium Lasers allowing the mech to preform effectivly at short range. Finally a Kressly LRM-5 system was placed in the left arm to fulfill the final requirement. All of this was placed in a modiyfied 30 ton Spider chassis. The electronics on the Sidewinder are the basics for a light mech but Defiance managed to install a highly effective cooling system into the mechs frame.
==Capabilities:== The Sidewinder has weak long range capabilities but can use them to take out short-medium range vehicles and even light mechs. If outgunned at range by another light it can use its high mobility to close and effectivly use its Medium lasers at closer quaters. It can preform certain scouting mission but due to its lack of jump jets is not the mech of choice. Another noted point is its ability to continually Alpha Strike and move at top speed without and heat generation.
==Battle History:== No battle history.
==Variants:== First variant. No others known
==Deployment== After testing the Sidewinder the project leader came up with this suggestion for deplyment. This mech would best be deployed to exterminate lances of light and medium vehicles, most other lights or even short range medium mechs as its mobility can keep it out of harm and even with its LRMs empty it can still inflict reasonable damage. For a light.
