Okay, the last one was kind of specialized, so give this one a whirl:

The Clans have Star Leauge 'mechs in Brian Caches by the hundreds. However, on a Clan battlefeild, they do not fare well against Omnimechs or even Clan designed second line units. Khan Steiner of the Cloud Cobras recently opened one of the caches and ordered the technican caste to select a variety of 'mechs and evaluate upgrades for them for use as line 'mechs.

Upgrade a Star Leauge era heavy(or heavy medium or light assault, just try to keep it between 50 and 85 tons) 'mech with all clan tech weapons. Stay away from Endo Steel(unless it was used in the origional), as replacing a 'mechs internal structure is coslty and time consuming. As the Clans abhor waste, try to keep the price low. And of course, contain fluff for the why.

Let me look through my files, I might have one or two that fit this billing...it will take me a few days. Missions come before fun around here.

BL-6-KNT - IIC Black Knight

{Start Kong Instellar Corporation data ROM file}

BL-6-KNT Black Knight
75 Tons
Chassis: Technicron 1L
Power Plant: Vlar 300
Cruising Speed: 43
Maximum Speed: 64.5
Jump Jets: none
Jump Capacity: none
Armor: Numell DuraBond Ferro-Fibrous
Armament:
1 ER PPC
4 ER Medium Lasers
2 ER Large Lasers
1 Small Pulse Laser
Manufacturer: Kong Interstellar Corporation
Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: TransComm Alpha
Targeting and Tracking System: Beagle Active Probe with Beagle Active Probe

Overview:
Introduced in 2578 by the Star League Defense Forces, the Black
Knight’s heavy armor and offensive power make it the ideal command
'Mech for front-line units. At the same time, its impressive arsenal
allows the 'Mech to operate effectively on its own.
The Black Knight’s endo steel II frame provides all the support of a
standard skeleton twice its weight. The resulting lighter frame
allows the 'Mech to mount a heavier weapons mix and an ample fifteen
tons of ferro-fibrous armor, for a total mass of seventy-five tons. A
maximum speed of 65 kph, ample firepower and a Beagle active probe
designed to pick up a wide range of information and relay it
instantly to the pilot add to this 'Mech's excellent performance in
the field.
The 'Mech's main weapon is the Magna Hellstar II
particle projection cannon, which provides quick and deadly fire.
Twin McCorkel large lasers and Maxell medium lasers provide
additional firepower. A head-mounted Magna small laser rounds out the
weapons system. The Beagle active probe, tied directly to the weapons
system, provides an additional advantage. In addition to its ability
to pierce standard ECM devices at short range and instantly catalog
all military machines, the weapons tie-in allows the Beagle's scanner
to ride a low-power laser pulse through any interfering objects. The
laser's limited range, however, makes this strategy effective only
for analyzing the details of nearby objects.
Heat buildup is the most noticeable problem connected with the Black Knight. Even
with twenty heat sinks, the 'Mech can still overheat quickly if the
pilot is not careful when selecting which weapons to fire.

{End Kong Instellar Corporation data ROM file}

Known Variants:
Clan Cloud Cobra chose several BL-6-KNT Black Knights, previously
mothballed in a Brian Cache, to bolster the Clan's line units.
Minimizing cost and meeting a short deadline, technicians only
upgraded weapons and major components along with the appropriate
power couplings. This left the Black Knights' aged and extra-bulky
first generation endosteel frames and standard engines intact. An
ancient metadata file found in the 'Mechs' ROMs indicated that Kong
Interstellar Corporation had boasted 15 tons of ferro-fiber armor.
However, the 'Mechs in the Brian Cache had standard armor, and indeed
did not have the critical capacity to carry early ferro-fiber armor
and endosteel. Though and intriguing mystery and a discrepancy
easily remedied with Clan armor, the standard was left on in favor of
adding Clan double heat sinks to compensate for the heat produced by
the Clan's long-range weapons.
The final upgraded variant is a simple component for component
upgrade of the original with three extra double heatsinks.

Hagataga

Chassis: Ford CVX 21
Power Plant: Vlar 340 XL (Clan)
Cruising Speed: 43
Maximum Speed: 64.5
Jump Jets: Lexington Lifters
Jump Capacity: 60 meters
Armor: StarGuard Ferro-Fiberous with CASE
Armament:
2 LRM 15s
2 LB 2-X ACs
4 ER Medium Lasers
2 ER Small Lasers
Manufacturer: Star League Weapons Research
Primary Factory: Terra Firma
Communications System: Tek BattleCom
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
Vulture, Mad Dog, the later versions of this mech had several
names. Of SLDF build that much was certain but this mecha, massing in
at 85 tons, the mech has the same apperance as the hunched over
reverse legged mech it is based on; even the weapons package is
roughly similar. however at 25 tons heavier this mecha is tough
enough to pound it out with assault classes easily, trading in the
pulse lasers of the smaller version, this one relies on medium ER's
to deal damage at close and medium ranges. Autocannons round out the
mechs up close firepower, the unit carrying dual LB-x AC2's with
cluster rounds for armor chewing. Heat wise the unit runs a little
hot if the lasers are fired all at once, though the small lasers are
mostly resrved for anti elemental or anti infantry use should the
need arise. Often used in hunting packs, the mechas LRM15 racks were
used to pin targets in place while additional units decimated them
with auto cannon fire; typically saving the laser weaponry for a
final blow on a weakened unit. Equppied with jump jets, this mech can
run and leap over structures if need be and this allows it to be air
dropped into target zones. To improve general weapons accuracy a EI
cockpit is included, allowing a pilot to interface and better control
the mech. Movement wise and turning wise the machine has the same
capacty as the smaller Vulture battlemech, though speed is a fraction
slower. Space wise the machine has been purposely designed a half ton
light, this extra space being used to increase the armor arond the
long angled cockpit. In performance tests this mech has been
recoreded to gun down a mixed lance of light and mediums before they
entered primary weapons range, the Hagataga only taking minimal
damage. Even in a one on one assult match, the mechs superior turning
radius and movement profile proved superior to the heavily armed
Awsome battlemech it defeated. Secondary designs include a C3 linking
and detachable ECM pods that can be mounted on the shoulders. While
each unit is somewhat expensive, roughly 21,000,000 C$bills, the
overall production cost from the specalized and rugged design is
lower then the cost of some hevier and lighter battlemechs avalable.

Capabilities:
Missile bombardment along with rapid target removal, well suited
to close or long ranged engagements having both the firepower and the
amor to withstand heavy punishment, or jumpjet away from a contested
threat area to regroup.

Deployment:
SLDF-Losttech during 2800's, later revived by Clan Cloud Cobra.
useage is in either strike assault teams or as secondary units where
the long range fire power can come into play.

Known Variants:
This variant is the final version, as the orginal units dug up,
had no in mounted weapons, rather empty slots for lasers and
ballistic weaponry to be installed. The design was chosen based on
space and weapons effectiveness over a lengthy battle, choosing to
design the machine to be dangerous at long range and deadly at close
ranges.s

BMB-IIC Bombardier

Chassis: KetoBond Standard
Power Plant: 325 VOX XL Fusion
Cruising Speed: 53.75
Maximum Speed: 86
Jump Jets: none
Jump Capacity: none
Armor: Ferro Fibrous with CASE
Armament:
2 LRM 20s
2 LRM 10s
2 ER Medium Lasers
Manufacturer: Unknown
Primary Factory: Unknown
Communications System: Neil 9000
Targeting and Tracking System: Unknown

Overview:
Khan Steiners command to upgrade Battlemechs stored in the caches
were seen by a few techs as an opportunity to completely redesign
standards that had been part of the Clans history, other more
traditionally inclined technicians saw it as a means to bring these
designs back to where they rightfully belong. On the field of battle.

Capabilities:
This 'Mech is intended to continue filling the role it held in
the days of the Star League, but to increase upon the performance in
a drastic fashion. To do so, it is equipped with an additional set of
LRM launchers, providing half again the amount of raw firepower.
Coupled with the Artemis IV fire control system the LRMs can supply
massive amounts of support fire. Ammunition amounts have been doubled
and Case is provided in both ammo locations
To replace the SRM launcher for close in support, it uses two ER
Medium Lasers, improving on the damage and range of the earlier
model.

Deployment:
As of this time, the Khan has not approved of the design, and it
has not seen deployment.

You know when it comes to racism, people say: " I don't care if they're black, white, purple or green"... Ooh hold on now: Purple or Green? You gotta draw the line somewhere! To hell with purple people! - Unless they're suffocating - then help'em.

Okay, here are the results. The battles took place on a variety of terrain, and conditions. The winner, having won 3 of 5 matches is the Battlemaster. The Black Knight won once as did my Warhammer. The Bombardier had some bad luck with ammo explosions and dead pilots but almost stole one of the Battlemaster's wins, until the Battlemaster's PPC had a one on one chat with the Bombardiers pilot.

All in all, great designs everyone, it would be fun to do one where a ton of people submit designs and have a single elimination tourney.
