What is the highest battle value anyone has seen for IS or Clan using level 2 technology?
Is there anyone that doesn't love the Heavy Gauss Rifle

I hate the Heavy Gauss. Would much rather use standard gauss rifles.
Lost all my custom designs last time I changed hard drives, will try to dig some up.

3 extra tons, 10 extra damage..... it'll go internal on any location for mechs under 50 tons (standard armor dispersal assumed)
~only~ downside I see is the number of criticals, but if your low on crits, what the heck are you even thinking gauss (standard or heavy)

I prefer the Light Gauss Rifle, and don't really like the other two...

How about if I throw in the LBX-20 vs Ultra AC20 question?
Personally, I love the AC20, but I have this nack for rolling snake eyes when trying to use it.
To be on the safe side, I usually go with the LBX and carry both cluster and slug ammo.

I dislike both weapons, instead prefering the Ultra AC/5, (or Rotary AC/5, but) and the LBX-10.
But this is a conversation about battlevalue, quiaff?

Using Drawing Board, I can hit 3265 bv and just over 23 million cbills with clan tech.

While it's not as high as the 3.2K monster I mentioned ealier.. I've also managed to hit 3011 on 95 tons clan... and I'd HATE to fight against it...

Exact heat efficiency is over-rated
Drop 3 DHS, add endo, replace the HSL with an ERML, add a TComp, ups the BV to 3479. Overheating by 8 is not a big hinderance.
And my 5 ERPPC version is playable, it just has very redundant weapon systems Get someone in PC, odds are good that you can take off their head or at least deal some major damage, who cares if you shut down LOL

We mucked about with something similar to this a few years back... came to the conclusion that higher defensive bv was more important than offensive bv for higher bv.
We eventually went onto level 3 Tactical Handbook Stuff and ended up with this rediculous mech:

doesn't look like level 2 tech to me However, converting that design to level 2 and using standard Clan ECMs does still result in a ridiculous BV

I did say we got onto level 3 stuff though, but the basic concept was covered in level 2 equipment before we refined it in level 3 equipment.
Generally it was believed to be illegal to mount more than 1 ECM on a mech, this though would be overriden if you were to say that you were using ECM and ECCM rules (thus he with the most ECMs win ).
I could just imagine a home-rule with something like, each ECM slaved into a main ECM adds +1 hex radius to ECM jamming range.

Well I was able to construct a perfectly useable clan 100 tonner on drawing board that had a BV of a little over 3,600. It moved 3/5/3 and had 2erppc's and 2 gauss all linked to a targeting computer and only overheated by 1 when firing all weapons and jumping. I also got a 75 tonner to a little over 3,000 by using an erppc, 4mpl's, and a erml all linked to a targeting computer; move was 5/8/5. That mech I like!
That being said, high BV is only a good, not a great, indicator of a mechs potential for destruction. When designing a 100 tonner for my elite pilot to sit in, I eventually went with a modified Diaishi with a UAC/20 and 4 LPL's.
However, the importance of being able to do big damage at long range (the way BV is rated) goes down when you get up close and personal (yes, we mean you IS punks) an erppc isn't any better at 7 hexes than it is at 1, but medium laser sure is!
