The Star League was supposed to have been established to improve humanity throughout the Inner Sphere through access to economic and social prosperity and liberty for all through education, free trade and a security force provided by all for the security of all.

This was proven to be a lie.

As Ian Cameron sowed the seeds for its eventual destruction at its birth. In not respecting Periphery States desire to becoming a member – war raged to force the issue under the pretext that by doing so the Star League promised to improve their lifestyle. A promise that was never realized during the entirety of the Star leagues history.

This in turn would come to symbolize the hypocrisy of the Star League, the First Lord, and the Council of Lords.

Long-standing disagreements, as seen to originate from both the Terran Hegemonies Mother Doctrine - by restricting technological advancement throughout the Star League to that of the Terran Hegemony whilst demanding of its associates an increase tithe in men, material, and monies used to expand a repressive Star League Defence Force (SLDF), that many viewed as a drain on public coffers that could have been used to promote civil prosperity throughout the Inner Sphere rather than military prosperity. The sheer vastness of its twenty armies – and the use of hidden military facilities throughout the Inner Sphere to impose the First Lord - was impossible to defend.

Then with the Council Edict of 2650 - First Lord Michael Cameron II demanded each Great House and Periphery State to effectively disarm. By changing the law, their military forces were reduced to a fixed amount – at that time less than five percent of the size of the current SLDF – whist no such restriction would be applied to SLDF, effectively reducing their comparable size as the SLDF expanded. This, together, with the knowledge the SLDF were establishing potentially thousands of secret bases throughout the Inner Sphere led to one unrefusable conclusion – the First Lord would preserve their right to rule through war if necessary if any House Lord challenged them.

Why build hidden military facilities if they are not to be used - and given their location – whom is the only target within available proximity of each of these facilities?

Many throughout the Inner Sphere had now come to realise the rampant inequality imposed by the First Lord and the Terran Hegemony, in addition to the SLDF Sword of Damocles would lead to an inevitable war as either the States or the Periphery would eventually attempt to enforce their rights through a cabal of equally like-minded individuals – and in so doing shatter the Star League.

At this pivotal moment there could be but one response, as each interstellar government decided to use the Star Leagues own tactics against them.

Implant individuals within the SLDF, through the tithe system, who would see their duty to their respective interstellar government first – who could be relied upon to proceed through the ranks, gain valuable information and subordinate units’ affiliation away from the Star League.

Former SLDF engineers and construction personnel, who worked on the establishment of potentially thousands of secret bases constructed for the SLDF, would be sought after to utilize their knowledge and expertise in creating opposing secret bases in concert with exploration corporations - which were soon taken one step further in allowing the establishment of military industrial facilities to expand their military through each interstellar governments’ new shadow army.

Within the Federated Suns, however, these rampant excesses would in turn create the Confederation of Suns, originally known as the Federated Suns, that is until the great Star League debacle – the Amaris Coup d’etat – when uncompromising differences between the common man and the nobility which had been clashing over issues that finally led to civil war: including economic interests (the division and ability to generate wealth), cultural values (equality under the law), and the power of the Star League and House Davion to control individual worlds had finally reached a tipping point.
Get thee to Coventry … Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious by this daughter of Tharkad … Our army shall march through. Well to New Avalon tonight.
