Early Documented History
The transition of humanity into an extrasolar society occurs with that of the Terran Ecological Collapse, circa 2031, as massive wildfires, tornadoes, flood, drought, and rapidly increasing sea levels threatened humanity’s food and water supply – where a failed food and water reserves vulnerability and triggering a Neo-Malthusian catastrophe, as national political, economic, and social collapse spread (and by the end of year near a quarter of humanity will cease to exist).
Within the United Nations discourse continued promoting national and international environmental were promoted and discarded as self-interest of the various National Security Council members veto proved a major impediment.
In 2032 multiple coup d’états by hard-line environmentalists commenced to “restored their government” throughout the worlds super-powers.
The United States of America coup sparked the “Second Civil War”, which necessitated a NATO led invasion to restore order – their government, now deemed a failure, was promptly co-opted by caretaker government instigated by Brussels.
The Russian Federation Coup, a purge in all but name, to rid themselves of the members who were blocking environmental reformation – and at the same time the wealth and political power such undertaking can achieve.
Lastly the People’s Republic of China coup was the only failed attempt by reformers (however, now politicly isolated new measures were undertaken to adapt).
In the year 2035 it became evident to repair Terra’s ecosystem a unified Terran Government would be required. By years end the United Nations becomes the unified government of humanity …whist simultaneously abandoning the Environmental Modification Convention …

By 2051 humanity takes its next step into space with the development of multiple geostationary space elevators, allowing for the establishment of multiple weather modification satellites to preventing damaging weather. Which also provided for the establishment of multiple Luna Colonies – which would act as the construction yards for Arc Space Stations.
<2058 artificial space habitats begin to be manufactured to allow habitation in space built along the O’Neil cylindrical colony they are capable or being scaled up to 8 Km in diameter and 32 Km long. Each cylinder has multiple land areas designed for specific functions from all forms of food production, manufacturing, food production, warehousing, and urban development alternating with multiple windows, and multiple mirrors that open and close to form a day-night cycle. The total land area inside is approximately 750 square Km and can comfortably house and feed a population of two million (or thereabouts).>
<It is decided by the United Nations Security Council that Terra’s ‘unwanted overpopulation’ is threatening the continued repair to the ecosystem - in reality, the newly stratified world society has decided to expel these unwanted members to space, who will act as their workforce to manufacture the new Arc Space Stations and then form their population / crew as unofficially … “they are no longer required due to changes in operational requirements.”.>
<For those paying attention this step indicates that Humanity is commencing an era of totalitarianism – as a terraformed Terra is declared a utopia for the exclusive right of the rich and powerful and their loyal vassals – whereas all other lesser humans are sent off world …>
2076 – Colonization of Mars commences …
Multiple Martian colonies intensifies the removal of Terra’s unwanted population, which are little better than an exile colony located in remote locations …
2101 – Botany Bay Kuiper Belt dissident prisons commences …
Due to the increasing number of dissidents, it is decided to utilize them as prison (slave) labour within the Kuiper Belt – with an end goal of mining, refining, and building ships and Arc Stations as a prison workforce once they have built their own penal colony. <High penal death rate, consequently, as is expected.>
2135 – Terran Alliance
With the 100-year anniversary of the forming of the single Terran Government <together with the complete removal of all undesired individuals from Terra.> - The United Nations decides to re-name to the Terran Alliance. Secretary General of the United Nations … UNSG Daiyu Xun establishes a new world aristocracy, whist oppressing the space population via a depraved monopoly for wealth, glory and power that include manipulative laws made for the new nobility’s exclusive benefit.
Buccaneers – 2137
A handful of prison colonies, that were abandoned and left to die within the Kuiper Belt, were able fend for themselves – they soon began to build their own warships. These former convicts then initiate a war of vengeance upon the Terran Alliance by attacking the Space Cruise Liner Royal Glory, (very few escaped the carnage) … whist others begin their war by liberating other dissidents.
<They will become known as the Pirates of the Kuiper Belt, taking to the stars, they will move further out into the solar system than any other human, there they will discover a vast asteroid as their own, naming it Tortuga, a place from where they can launch numerous attacks on Terran Alliance.
The First Stelar Hundred Years’ War – 2139 – 2253
UNSG Daiyu Xun raises additional fleets ostensibly to deal with the Buccaneer rebellion within the Kuiper Belt.
Though when it was discovered that Mars separatists were assisting the Buccaneers, she determines to use force once again and in so doing commenced a war against the Martian Colonies, whom at the same time declared their independence from Terra.
Over time, the war will take on a life of its own – into that of a broader power struggle involving factions throughout all the stellar colonies as Mars won the initial battle by forcing the Terran Alliance from Mars through utilizing their new ground weapons platform, which became known as a BattleMech – an armoured combat vehicle, of roughly humanoid shape, standing 8 meters tall and massing 20 tons – together with the new aerospace fighter.>

Over time, however, it becomes clear that Terran Luna industrial might was beginning to out-pace that of Mars and the Kuiper Belt.
It was at this stage in 2202 that faster-than-light theories postulated by Thomas Kearny and Takoyoshi Fuchida were realized with the successful voyage of the Martial FTL spacecraft, the UMS Vanguard, which made a 12- light year jump to the Tau Ceti Star System through the jump-gate structure made up of eight separate, but aligned, lintels that generate the vortex into ‘hyperspace’, thus allowing any existing ship to travel vast interstellar distances in a matter of hours.
With this advanced technology in hand in the following fifty years Mars engaged in a single strategy, defence in depth (also known as elastic defence strategy) that sought to delay the Terran Forces from advancing and buying time.
For a time, due to the mass casualties of war, Terra stopped their offensive, however it was not long before they recommenced the war.
Whilst the war raged on newly bult colony Arc ships were being sent secretly through and returning once a viable colony was discovered, at a rapid rate as possible, and on March 31, 2253, the complete population of Mars, the Kuiper Belt, many independent Arc Ships and other small colonies had been successfully evacuated which just necessitated the destruction of the gate with the passage of the final ship to ensure their getaway.
<It would take a further three weeks for the Terran Forces to realize that the Forces of Mars, the Buccaneers, and many others were no longer there.>
Colonization Era – 2253 – 2366
Terran Alliance
Descends into an aristocratic military totalitarian society … who’s aim is to build a vast military, reverse engineer the Martian FTL system, then find and defeat these renegades and unify the whole galaxy under their rule.

As a web-way of gates are established between colony worlds, following years of forced multicultural cohabitation – colonies begin to be established based upon cultural heritage whist an expansionist doctrine grips the former peoples of the Martian and Arc Colonies as by 2366 over a hundred colony worlds have now been established
The Age of War 2363 – 2570
It is a dichotomy age, in which humanity expands ever outward in all directions to establish new colonies, as either representing an existing state power or seeking freedom from these states who are now engaged in an almost constant war over an ever-increasing front line of worlds between colony worlds and the Terran Alliance Military.
Throughout the late 24th and 25th Centuries alliances between worlds begins to transform ‘the Inner Sphere’ into multiple interstellar-states – based upon the need for treaties – based on religion, self-defence pacts, and trade agreements … as smaller states are either absorbed into larger powers or conquered outright, a small number of larger empires begins to dominate vast areas of space ... each with their own culture, philosophy and government
2439 – Massive use of, and the tonnage of, BattleMech / Aerospace Fighter / etc. increases throughout the Inner Sphere’s as number of wars increases exponentially.
<As industrial espionage / research and development intensifies, BattleMech / aerospace fighter / Military Combat Dropship / Warship begin to proliferate throughout the Inner Sphere.>
By the 26th Century Empires have arisen and fallen, each with its own culture and political system (from neo-feudalism, a democratic parliament-based society, and military juntas), as the threat of war has now reached a scale yet undreamt of, due to the sheer size of each empire’s military capability …
2505 – Battle of Xin Nanjing – The Xin Nanjing Massacre
Xin Nanjing, located in the Administrative Division of Xuanwu, was considered one of the ‘Jewel Worlds’, due to its idealist environment, universities and its artistic aesthetic.
On December 9th, elements of the Terran Alliances’ 16th and 6th Planetary Invasion Army Divisions transitioned by Jump-Gate at the Lagrange point between Xin Nanjing and its Moon, Zise, where they mounted an assault from multiple directions. In response the planetary government issued ‘open planet’ declaration, however, this message was either not received or ignored, as on 12th December heavy orbital bombardment commenced. What followed was nothing short of chaos as civilians tries to flee.
By the 13th the Terran Alliance Divisions were entering all the major cities where they conducted ‘mopping-up’ operations both inside and outside the city – which, in reality, the Terran Army engaged in random murder, looting, arson and other war crimes which continued for six weeks … where the death toll was beyond count and became an act of planetary genocide due to their systematic manner in targeting civilians …
Then on the seventh week of the Xin Nanjing Massacre with the arrival of the Qilin relief force initiated multiple battles both in space and on land … where enraged by the discovery of multiple mass graves, no quarter was offered to the Terran military …
<The massacre will become the turning point of the Age of War against Terra as the unified armies of all colonies initiated a massive counter offensive against Terra that by 2570 would push them back to the few remaining systems surrounding Terra and an eventual cease fire offer by new provisional Terran government following a coup, and the subsequent signing of the Ares Warfare Accords.>
<The Ares Warfare Accords – 2570 – which established a martial code of conduct during war with the aim of reducing both the human and economic costs of war as well as the resolution of disputes.>
2569-70 Terran Alliance – Reformation War
Upon the death of Emperor Reinhard Vassiliev-Xin III in the winter of 2568 the Terran Alliance was left in a crisis due to lack of an appointed heir.
This inevitably led to a power struggle between the two most powerful imperial households - Duke Xun and that of Marquis Vassiliev – who were positioning their children to be the new monarch, by positioning themselves as traditional forces maintaining the old regime.
In early 2569 conflict erupted between the factions which inevitably drew front line forces away from fighting, which in turn caused the collapse of many strategic battle zones.
This in turn allowed many discontented minor nobles, who were seeking reform, the ability to establish a third force under the command of Admiral Violette “Vixen” Chevalier – and was seen as the beginning of the end of the Terran Alliance Dynasty as the noble forces fell apart from within as their own soldiers rebelled against their leaders (due to the eventual proliferation of knowledge regarding the Xin Nanjing Massacre turned the people thoroughly against the old nobility) and were killed (with their remaining family now seeking asylum within the territory of their former enemies whilst establishing a governments in exile).
Following the reformist’s victory Admiral Violette Chevalier took absolute power as the de facto ruler over the new Terran Hegemony in 2570. Her first actions were to agree to a cease fire, the subsequent Ares Warfare Accords, she then immediately began reforming the social and political structure of the former Terran Alliance, now the United Republic of Marseille.
2571 – 2595 Era of Peace
Following the First Great Interstellar War an era of peace descends upon the colonized worlds and their citizens throughout the now vast Inner Sphere.
To differentiate between the size each state (worlds under a single government), for the purpose of deliberation it became common practice to adopt the Convention of Feudal Estates General.
These differing realms therefore included …

Age of War
The Age of War became known for …
• Underground fortress architecture to safeguard populations from orbital warship strikes.
• The near two centuries of constant war as the Terran Alliance fought against a fractured alliance, which would take a war crime to reforge to achieve victory. And
• The expansion of the Inner Sphere as war refugees flee the conflict zone seeking new peaceful worlds to colonize.
In AD 2368, the Age of War officially began when the Terran Alliance’s military attempted to regain control over their ‘serfs’, who escaped the Terra one century prior.
In the interim, however, these freed peoples fractured back into their former cultures during this era of peace where each formed their own protectorate as a means of celebrating their unique identity.
For nearly two centuries constant war has spread across the entire known Inner Sphere as the escalating levels of violence intensified against their former foe and allies alike until that of 2505 and the battle for Xin Nanjing – The Xin Nanjing Massacre.
Xin Nanjing, located in the Administrative Division of Xuanwu, was considered one of the ‘Jewel Worlds’, due to its ideal environment, universities and its artistic aesthetic.

The Ares Warfare Accords – 2507 – which established both a martial code of conduct during war with the aim of reducing both the human and economic costs of war as well as the resolution of disputes. It also provided a means of uniting all colony forces under a single objective – the destruction of Terran Alliance.
The massacre become the turning point of the Age of War against Terra as the act unified all armies of all colonies and initiated a massive counter offensive against Terra that by 2514 would push them back to the nine remaining systems surrounding Terra.
In 2514 Admiral Manette Chevalier, commander of the Reserve Army, utilized Prince Vitaly Vassiliev and the remnants of the16th 6th and 13th Army as bait upon the world of Northwind where a meeting of the High Command was to be held regarding the prosecution of the war.
Her real target, however, was not the enemy … it was her own high command, and monarch, the Secretary General Himself and his subordinates ….
The key was to ensure the flagship subsequently found herself engaged in battle against Prince Vitaly Vassiliev’s Rogue Naval fleet, then with the strike of naval weapon upon the aft section of the ship the engine was rigged to detonate. At which point in time Admiral Manette Chevalier would implement pre-existing orders to protect Terra and all Alliance Worlds – declare Prince Vitaly Vassiliev traitor and ordering his immediate arrest and execution.
In essence the coup’s plan involved utilizing the Reserve Army into seizing and removing the wartime government under the premise that Prince Vitaly Vassiliev initiated a coup and assassinated the Secretary General. The remaining rank-and-file soldiers and junior officers would be motivated on the false belief that the Terran Alliance Government had been disloyal and were guilty of treason (being supporters of the Prince) against the state and were therefore required to be removed.
On 20 July 2514, the TAS Dauntless entered the Northwind system, together with her screening fleet. Taking up position in geostationary orbit all appeared in order. Until the battleship TAS Furious opened fire, whilst declaring the Secretary General a traitor to the Alliance. What ensured was a chaotic battle as both sided believed they were under attack from the other as either a coup or a purge was been undertaken by the other.
Five minutes into the exchange a salvo from the Furious appears to have hit the rear. A huge jet of flame burst out of Dauntless, followed by a devastating explosion that destroyed the ship. The Furious then dispatched a message, in the clear, to the planet below informing Prince Vassiliev that he was now the new Secretary General.
Enraged the former Dauntless’ screening force continued the battle whist a single frigate was sent with a message of treachery …
Admiral Manette Chevalier declared a state of military emergency and was thus ‘forced to take command’, purging the government of all disloyalty as a fleet was sent to bring the former Prince Vitaly Vassiliev to heal. At the same time a message was sent requesting a cease fire with the aim of ending the war.
Following months of negotiation, a cessation of hostilities treaty was signed which included the Ares Warfare Accords.
Admiral Manette Chevalier then changed the name of the Terran Alliance to the Terran Empire, established the Noblese feodale and chevaleresque – whilst assuming the heredity post of the ‘First Terran Princess’.
The age of war ends …
Age of the Star League – 2516
The terrible losses of the age of war produced, as the decades went by and peace was all but elusive, an ever-growing hope that a method could be found to prevent the renewal of suffering that is modern war. So profound was the desire that within a few months after the signing of the cessation of hostilities treaty and the Ares Warfare Accords that a unanimous agreement by the six main states as to the Covenant of the Star League through the establishment of an Inner Sphere Trade Organization.
Considered a utopian age where …
The central tenants of the Star League were that aggressive war is a crime not only against the immediate victim but against the hole of humanity. Accordingly, it was the right and duty of its members to prevent it as it emerged as a practical solution to current politics as a diplomatic reform tool for the practical purpose of eliminating war. Secondly, the League is to assist with free trade as a medium to promote cultural understanding as well as enabling states to work out their differences through dialogue.
As such a round table of equals were formed consisting of the six largest Houses who created the Star League Defence Force. Who ensured that any conflict from the thirteen mid-level Houses and two hundred and six smaller Houses was stopped with all alacrity – and then mediated as to the cause. As such the Star League gained great renown throughout the Inner Sphere as more Houses willingly joined such an enlightened venture.
< 2580 – Project Transient prototype Black Box Communication equipment is being tested in certain fleet vessels. >
Nearing the end of the Star League, however, a splinter had grown within its very heart as the larger the League grew the more unwieldy the SLDF became (due to its labyrinthine administrative rules).
Which in turn brought suffering to many worlds as hidden wars between the main states were intensifying with more regularly.
< 2630 – The first transmission of a HPG message is transmitted on new years day. >
2650 - The newly invested, 20-year-old, Terran Princess Clemence Chevalier saw it as her ‘Noblesse Oblige’ to bring peace and prosperity to all people, however with the increasing labyrinthine administrative rules imposed for the benefit of certain House’s vested interests that in turn brought great suffering.
First, she attempted to present before the round table the 2650 Edict to limit the size of all military forces that governments, private families, and corporations could muster – however, the Edict was immediately made void by all Houses, utilizing their veto power against any “substantive” resolution … thus the round table of equals begins to crack as underlying tensions and disagreements simmer, exploding into minor battles …
She thus had but one further path … to take command of the SLDF herself … taking decisive measures
< 2655 – The first Mobile HPG begins being installed within large Spacecraft. >
First to mobilizing her Clergy, Terran Princess Clemence Chevalier, insinuates her belief throughout the SLDF. That a single commander is required to maintain the peace prerogative mandate … whist maintaining the image that the SLDF are the virtuous noble heart of the Star League that is required to protect the people … Many throughout the military succumb to her way of thinking …
2661 – For the past eleven years an upswing in ‘pirate’ raids along all border worlds added to the increasing malaise of the SLDFs assigned to these areas due to their inability to execute their mandate to preserve the peace of the era …
The situation escalated in 2661 when a pirate raided the Kaiserliches Reich (Imperial Realm) world of Riesa (Saxony) with a battalion’s worth of Mechs (No single House Unit Mechs utilized - designated units were Mechs from around the entire Inner Sphere to hide their origins). Where their objective – the bullion storage facility located within the spaceport – which resulted in the passenger terminal being targeted and struck by multiple LRM strikes as a diversionary tactic. Resulting in over 500 passengers and terminal employees killed by the time the fire was extinguished (One of whom was former Koanchosa-cho agent, Masaru Kanai, who’s arranged extraordinary rendition from the Ryuujin no Teikoku (Empire of the Dragon God) world of Miyazaki, who was acting on behalf of another.
Kaiserin Alexandrine Steiner dispatched the fleet in the area then issued a substantive bounty …
The following year the Abwehr located the pirates, through their fence (willing to cut a deal for remaining breathing), upon the Rasalhague periphery world of Odense. The 113th Panzerjager Regiment, under the command of Standarten-Fuhrer Wolfgang Jurgens, conducted an orbital drop upon their stronghold, no quarter was asked none given. Those few surviving pirates were subsequently interrogated by the attached Abwehr who discovered the pirates were under the contract of Okino Ayame a known Yakuza Oyabun and presumed Koanchosa-cho (Public Security Intelligence Agency) agent for the Ryuujin no Teikoku (Empire of the Dragon God).
At the Winter Round Table of 2663 Kaiserin Alexandrine Steiner confronted Shogun Kurita Shingen with proof as to the mercenary pirates’ contract and their connection to rendition of the defecting Koanchosa-cho agent. Shingen initially claimed that Alexandrine had falsified the evidence, but when she retorted that Kanai survived and completed his mission - Sakura, Shingen’s youngest daughter, had successfully defected that morning together with her twin baby girls – enraged Shingen leapt at Alexandrine landing several blows whist she landed several herself before the Table Guards could physically separate them, a furious Kurita then threatened war if his daughter was not returned.
Late 2663
Multiple brigades of both Wehrmacht and the Teikoku Rikugun massed on the border, whilst the SLDF were ordered not to interfere as the Round Table had yet to provide an edict to allow them to act.
January 2664
Open warfare had commenced between the two realms as the Teikoku Rikugun commenced the war by invading the Kaiserliches Reich.
2664, March 15
Terran Princess Clemence Chevalier considered the sacred remit of the SLDF in tatters (to preserve the peace of the IS) as the Round Table had vetoed any act by the SLDF to intervene in the war. She thus acted with the best of intentions in the hope of ending the war.
On March 15, she acted against ‘dissident forces’ and in so doing the SLDF were usurped by her, when they were forced to swear an oath to her personally – and in such a time where an oath was seen to have an almost physical presence by the SLDF officers, thus she trapped them – and as such she assumed the position of First Lord of the SLDF and by default the Inner Sphere.
<Note – at this stage the Star League, which was originally established as an Inner Sphere Trade Organization in the hopes of eliminating war is now transitioning into a dictatorial enforcement military.>
