Arrow IV to punch holes in the hull, RAC/5's to engage the weapon mounts, AMS and lasers for close defense. Now it just needs an infantry bay for marines, and you would be set (drop some of the armor perhaps?).

That is a possiblty. I can see it being used the way you are are suggesting.

It could lose some armor and still be able to take hits and do it's job..I will but this idea down in the notes.

Now this is what I'd want as a patrol cutter. It's got armor, guns, endurance, and a reasonable price. Good job.

What group would use them? Probably those folks looking for patrol cutters to protect their shipping from pirates. Also, planetary militias interested in patrol vessels with much more range than fighters can deliver.

Call me slow, but is the Legati a name for a big ass fighter from Renegade Legion?

Yes, it's one of my conversions from that game over to AT2. Thought I would get some more fun with these vessels in BT. Since Renegade Legion is all but dead.

I really like this design and I have to say that it seems unique. It has inspired me to make a similiar one, like an AC-130 gunboat, for ground support missions. One question though, why the AMS in the aft?

Wouldn't the AMS be more effective in the front?

You have 116 points of armor on all four sides (117 in front) and you're more likely to take damage to the fore and sides as you'll be engaging the enemy. When it comes time to return, retreat, refuel or whatever, I don't see the enemy getting all that many shots in against your rear. If they couldn't shread your fore armor, I really can't see them shreading your rear armor. And over the period over 1-2 rounds, you'll knock out a maximum of 12 incoming missles. That's like an extra 12 points of armor and I'd think that be better to have in the fore. And if you're still worried about trailing enemies, those ERML could always be pointed towards the rear.

It would be better to have it on the top in it's own turret, but you can't do that with AT2 rules at this time.

Having it in the rear is more for the vaule of surprise and extra portection. Think about this, you have your fighter all lined up to attack the rear...and the Streaks you fire are then blasted from sky. For most folks they won't repeat the same attack if it's stopped.

This is where an ink pen comes in and on the record sheet, you write turret next to AMS. And if you're playing at home, anyone that argues with you can hit the road.

Technically, the turret will have to weigh ten percent of anything mounted in it, so you might have to trim some weight off the ship if you want to do that and still be legal about it.

Then, if you want to get really technical, you could give the turret an internal structure value as well as some armor, but then you will eventually end up with a flying vehicle.

Thinking of those turrets, you could put some limits on them like only 70+ ton fighters can use them, and when the craft is flying in the atmosphere, its thrust is reduced by one point due to the rather un-aerodynamic nature of most aircraft turrets (in space, this would not matter). The turret should also not be able to mount all of the really big weapons (GR, HGR, AC20, LT, SNPR, THMPR, etc) and any missile pack except the largest in its class. You could then also designate whether the turret is dorsal or ventral, with a different firing arc limitation depending on the location.

But I guess that would be up to you guys.

If you want some great ideas, look back in history - WWII is especially rich in material. It was from this that the idea of the turrets came - thinking of the those British Lancasters with their multi-gun turrets trying to shoot down the German fighters.

some the gun turrets were made in line with the body such as the (lancaster with its tail turret) and if you look at wwII black widow its top turret was fairly aerodaimanic

Well, the Black Widow was a dedicated night-fighter the then-USAAF used to kill Japannese bombers. It was also not uncommon for the turret to be locked in the forward position to augment the fire-power of the other (nose?) guns. Turret-wise, I guess that makes it a bit of an odd one out. When talking turrets, I meant like on the B-17, Lancaster, He. 111, Il-4, etc.
