'Nuff Infantry there Karagin? I think if one of those were blown out of the sky, or all the infantry were jumped by million-mile-a-minute Firestarters.
Nasty Invasion ship there, but if one of those were to get destroyed with a full complement of troops? What would the politcal ramifications be, besides a warship was just killed?
If you need a crew, get some Kuritans!

Well it depends...which nation state are you talking about? Or which setting...:D
Now if this was being manned by the WoB, then why would they even worry about ramifactions...after all no warships were lost, you must have gotten faulty HPG transmissions.
Hey, if you are going to take a planet then you need ground troops. And it's not going to be a walk in the park. So here you get the whole kit and kaboodle in one package. Fire support (go DivArty) and maunver/holding units, what more is needed?

I'd bump the number up to 1008 platoons, gives you a nice even 9 Regiments...

Well, look at it this way - this thing is not going to lead the invasion, is it? If it is a troop carrier, and fully loaded with that NASTY! complement of infantry and their support, you sure as hell will not have it running the gauntlet with planetary and orbital defenders. Unless you are totally friggered out of your mind... So yes, then WoB would probably do it.

Freaky, I agree, too.
The lack of substantial numbers of Clan occupation troops has always been one of my biggest gripes about the Clan invasion. The invading Clans would have trouble mustering a few hundred warriors to occupy planets with billions of people. Heck, the entire Clan warrior caste (in the 3050s) was only 110,500 warriors. Care to compare that to any real world garrison forces?

I could see these coming in with the main wave or right behind the wave of fighters and medium range ships that clear the defenders out of the way.
They then unload their cargo of infantry and support units and then provid firesupport if needed.

Yeah, I know. But at least the Inner Sphere has the manpower for adequately sized garrison forces, so I can squint at the setting and ignore that. But the Clans can't even claim the necessary manpower.

The Clans could have it setup that they use better tactics to control the populace so they don't need a hugh garassion...or maybe this is an issue that was never considered important by the former or current PTB.

But look at it this way, the Clans aren't really being angry at the populace and having tatrums like Kuritans and Cappellans. (Freaking Asians!)
And besides, who the hell is going ot screw with the usual cluster of Second-Line Battlemechs, while second-line, and are just as angry as front-line Omnis.

That's not correct. I'd recommend reading the "Invading Clans SB" to see the atrocities committed by the Smoke Jaguars. They even managed to horrify the Kuritans with their callous extermination of whole neighborhoods to find one guerilla. The Ghost Bears had so much trouble holding onto the FRR that they had to threaten genocide to quiet the populous.
Further, the Lyran HB makes clear that some Clans (the Falcons in particular) like to force their caste system on the populous, which is guaranteed to make Spheroids unhappy.

So, in theory, if you just had some of the toughest tanks - or mechs - in the world, and needed to occupy a nation...sorry, a planet...with a population of 27 million, you wouldn't an occupation force of 150,000 troops, would you? Because the mechs are invincible and the civilians would never be able to generate 2000 fatalities among your force by (say) attacking the troops when they're outside their mechs, right?

The current writers have sweated bullets over it but couldn't do much because the former writers embedded the idea of "1 lance to garrison a planet" idea too deeply into the setting.

Thus, Battletech does not rely on infantry to hold a world. I would rather have the clans have an infantry base, and I don't really know about what went on during the First Wave, just after it, The Refusal war, and the Ghost Bear Rehabitation Project.

They do, it's call the Sholma troops and it wouldn't be to hard to believe that some of the Clans wouldn't be using the folks on the planet they took to defend it as well. I can see the Bears doing this as well as the Ravens with their future move into the Outworlds Alliance.

Those are counted toward the 110,500 figure I mentioned earlier, as are Clan police officers.

Indeed. The Bears got pretty damned smart about making the locals happy. The Ghost Bear Dominion trick was genius.

They are cannonfodder, which is one of many crimes in the Clan culture. But they can be used as garrison troops like Karagin pointed out.
