The Aegis submitted to the navy department is a true light cruiser capable of speeds up to 4 G's. In true Light Cruiser style, the Aegis sports a light main armament in the form of 16 NL-55'a and 8 NAC/25's, this in turn is supplemented by 40 White Shark Missile Launchers to provide the Aegis with a versitale yet solid weapons array for the limited weight that was available, the forth Cap weapon system added is more of a defensive weapon the Cap Screen Launcher.
The Secondary Weapons Array consist of mixed weapons, a layered array of ER PPC's, LPL's Ultra-20's with a final layer of AMS's for missile protection.
The Aegis also carrys a compliment of 36 fighters, 4 Dropships and a dual compliment of 40 Unarmored Marines and 40 Armored Marines, the reason for the dual marine compliment was decided as the most practicail solution to the most common problem of all high speed ship designs weight and space, with the dual compliment on board, the Armored Marines are able to defend or react to threats in the ships main spaces where they have room to move, but in the ships smaller sections the Unarmored Marines are still able to move and react as where the Armored ones would not be able to.
The final layer of protection the Aegis has to offer is its combination Type 80 Hull and 1,200 tons of LCF Armor.
While the Aegis design was looked upon with favor compared with other designs submitted, the Avalon Class Cruiser was choosen over the Aegis and the design regulated to the Data Archives, but recently some intrest in a secondary class of light crusiers has been expressed the the Aegis was once more brought up as a possible design for the project, only time will tell if the Aegis will be built.
