Okay, I was wondering how many folks have used these and in using them what kind of out come did they have on the battle you used them in?

Minimal. Until the introduction of the CapCon's new i-Thunder rounds, they were pretty useless.

Under standard rules, your opponent knew where they were landing and would simply avoid that hex. Firing a seven-hex spread really cut down on that.

The other problem with using Thunders effectively is that you're sacrifing direct offensive firepower for a possible tactical advantage. 99.99% of the time it's better just to fire iSwarm ammo.

Ahhh but you forget the initial spread a tank like the Partisan LRM Variant could lay down thus stalling an advance by greater than 1 turn often enough which is obviously the biggest problem for an LRM tank... allowing troops to approach.

To use Thunders effectively, you either need them in great numbers (and this begs the question as to why you're not loading Semi-Guided ammo or something else instead) or an agreement with your opponent to have Thunder fields deployed as "hidden" units, by writing down the target hex and firing, to be revealed later.

Otherwise they're too easy to avoid, and you're better off firing directly.

Their uses are specific and could be better used to funnel enemy troops towards an ambush, stall an advance for a short period of time, split troops up for easier pickings and to assist in an objective defence/attack scenario.

It also allows green troops to do damage to fast units at reasonably easy to-hit numbers, where they wouldn't have a hope of hitting a unit with any other type of ammo.

I never use Thunder LRMs. SG-LRMs or Swarm LRMs are so much better.
Greetings to you too.

These are the best uses. Certain units with lots of small launchers perform better than big launchers in the traditional thunders.

Also the main advantage is in large scale warfare. Lance/lance, they are practically useless in the basic form, as you cannot break up the terrain quickly enough to either damage the opponent, or break up his forces. From company on up it ought to work as meant.

Of cause, breaking up terrain slowly by use of an otherwise ineffective launcher (such as the lrm-5 on the thunder) can and will improve the tactical position since few people will ignore a small minefield (no matter how much damage more they will receive due to direct fire weapons)
Rather to blow up, then.
