BattleMech Technical Readout
Type/Model: Bug BG-1UR Tech: Inner Sphere / 2750 Config: Biped BattleMech Rules: Level 1, Standard design
Mass: 20 tons Chassis: Standard Power Plant: 180 GM Fusion Walking Speed: 97,2 km/h Maximum Speed: 151,2 km/h Jump Jets: None Jump Capacity: 0 meters Armor Type: Standard Armament: 2 Medium Lasers 2 Small Lasers Manufacturer: (Unknown) Location: (Unknown) Communications System: (Unknown) Targeting & Tracking System: (Unknown)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== For many years the Bug was the main competitor to the Locust,
==Capabilities:== The Bug was designed to outrun and outgun a Locust. While the designers achieved this goal they had to reduce the armour, making the Bug more vulnerable to damage.
With a top speed of 147 kph, the Bug can move very swiftly, making it a difficult target.
The twinned lasers mounted in each arm give the Bug substantial firepower for a machine its size, though Bug pilots know their weak armour does not give them much of a chance in a stand-up fight with heavier mechs.
Highly suited as a raider and scout, the Bug was quite popular with the various house armies but production was halted in an attempt to retool the factory and produce a new upgraded version. Teething problems and major budget overruns killed the design shortly before the Amaris Coup.
==Battle History:== Bugs and Locusts fought many battles over the years. Researchers compiled data from various engagements and discovered that the Locust won 53% of the fights against 47%. Some researchers point out that if the Star League trained Locust pilots are taken out of the equasion, the Bug wins by the narrowest of margins at 51%. Locust adepts retort that more locust pilots survived their engegements and so the discussion continues to this day.
The Bug soldiered on during the various Succession wars, but attrition took its toll and today less than 200 bugs remain in service, most of them rendered obsolete by new, more advanced designs.
==Variants:== The only known variant currently in service, replaces the armour with Ferro-Fibrous plate.
==Notable 'Mechs & MechWarriors:== Mechwarrior Nathan Quill
Quill's Bug has been in his family for several centuries. His father upgraded the armour with FF plate before he passed it on to Nathan. During his Tour of Duty on the Lyran side of the Jade Falcon border in 3067, he acquired a Clan heavy small laser and spent weeks adapting it to his mech. Though it has a tendency to overheat his mech, it has given his mech a nasty surprise weapon.
==Deployment== Bugs are scattered among the various Houses. The Draconis Combine and Lyran Alliance seem to have about half of them in service. The fewest are in service with the Capellan Confederation, much of their supply of Bugs having been destroyed during the Third Successon War in desperate counter raids against Federated Suns.

I like the locust-type mechs, though, I'd replace the small lasers with some fricking' armor! Not a bad design though, Level one stuff as its own appeal to it I suppose. Still, you'd have to stay away from anything with a large laser or better if you'd pilot one of these things.

Fluff is really good. The mech reminds me of all engery Locust or a better Commando, but that is still a good thing.

Yeah, good Competitor to the 3V Locust Variant indeed... The Light Armour isn't much of an Issue - you should be able to exploit that movement for an advantageous Modifier, plus terrain, plus Medium Range - you could easily have your Enemy at a +6, while you suffer only a +4 for the same.... Thats a significant Bonus... And thats just the beginning...
I'd take it over most Locusts, save the 1V - that Buggles will always have a special place in my Heart...
