Okay my take on an upgraded Scorpion, I tried to keep the weapons the same adding only in better versions of them. The only major changes are the XL, endo, and ER Lasers.

Fast...

Looks like it could be good for shoot-n-scoot at point-blank range, especially with the HPPC. Heat curve is also quite impressive.

Question on the Scorpion though: it is pretty light in the armour department for a 55-tonner. Is there a specific reason for this? Mission profile, design parameters?

It's a medium mech...the trade offs are there. You can't have the armor of the bigger mechs, nor the speed of the lighter mechs...so you are running somewhere in the middle.

Design parameters. The original Scorpion was thin-skinned because it was a 55-ton mech with a 330 standard fusion engine. Karagin didn't have a lot of room for improvement when he upped it to a 385XL.

Karagin: overall, it's a nice upgrade. I'm surprised at the relatively low price for an XL mech, but I'm used to thinking in terms of XLs and assault mechs. I was going to say something about using a SRM-4 Streak instead of a SRM 4 + ER ML, but that was just aesthetics speaking. The ER ML is a useful addition. And HPPC is a nice upgrade.

I wonder if I can get Light Ferro to work on this...

I think you have enough spaces to get away with it. You might even be able to install CASE if you're willing to use a Small Cockpit.

Now I'm thinking of designing a Clan-tech retrofit of this.
