The index pages for warships as well as the different groupings (corvette, destroyer, etc.) are gone. They were present a few days ago...

Not really gone, just renamed. We're differentiating between articles/categories for classes and for individual ships now.
The categories for types are redlinks because they lack descriptive text so far, but they do work. Check out "Category:Destroyer classes" for example.
Sorry about the mess, we're going to clear it up shortly. It's just that around the end of the year, I don't have much spare time for BTW work and I imagine it's pretty much the same for most other contributors.
