The entry for the Battletech Patches states that the patches were released in 1990 and 1991.

However, they were released before that in 1987 and 1988.

I have pictures (that I cant seem to post here) of my original packaging from my 1988 purchase of the House Davion patch.

I can supply ply the pictures by email if anyone wants to see.

That's interesting to know.
I wrote the BattleTech Patches article, and I used the copyright note on the packaging as publication date for lack of better data. I never held any such patch or package in my own hands, however, and just worked off some ebay auctions I saw.

I know that third parties, including various MechForce organisations, produced BattleTech patches, too. Any chance your patch is from MechForce instead from FASA?

In any case, yes, I'm interested in the pics. You can send them to frabby at spacious dot com.

I didn't know about any other organizations doing patches. It does say Mechforce on the label in back.

On the front it has Battletech Patches and underneath that 1987 FASA corporation.
Reverse it has at top left 8701, top Right Davion.

then a blurb stating:

"MECHFORCE (tm) has captured contraband MechWarrior identification patches from various overrun House garrisons throughout the Inner-Sphere. Highly prized as a war trophy, this patch is an actual unit insignia worn in combat during major campaigns of the Succession Wars. Wear it with pride."

Below this is:

BATTLETECH is a Registered Trademark of FASA Corporation. 1988
FASA Corporation, P.O. Box 6930, Chicago, IL. 60680

I actually bought the patch at a Military Surplus store of all places. I used to have a Jeans jacket with fighter squadron patches, and would shop there all the time. It was the only time I ever saw the Battletech patches in person until sometime in the mid 90s.

As far as I can tell, you can't post pictures or URLs here at all. I know I can't.

I believe you need 10 posts before you can start doing url and pics. It is in place to make sure the poster isnt a bot or something.
Barring that, you may be able to con nic or cray into putting them up for you.

He got 'em, and has forwarded them to me already. (Sorry for letting this slip until now.)

And I'm flabberghasted. The makeup is exactly the same as for those I already uploaded, except for the 1987 copyright notices (instead of 1991) for the Davion patch. It's copyrighted to FASA, not MechForce, even though it clearly says "MechForce" on the back. Not sure what to make of that. I'm not even sure if the MechForce already existed in 1987.

Yes, this is new info that needs to be worked into the article. It calls into question much of what I believed I knew about the patches.
However, I'm a bit short on time right now so it will be some time until I can turn my attention to this again. If anybody else wants to edit the article in the meantime, by all means, please do.

Thanks Frabby for letting me know.

When I read the article on the patches last year, I could have sworn I had mine much earlier than the 90s. I only found the packaging for the one I purchased only by accident while searching for something completely unrelated. I tend not to throw away a lot of stuff lol! I'll be putting the bag and card in with my Battletech 2e box for safer keeping.

I have no idea who mechforce was.
