------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ==Overview:== The Swiftwind mech is some of a rare bird, it's size alone makes it an oddity and to some a liabilty. Others see it as the premier scout or hit and run radier.
One former Fed-Com general felt these kinds of mechs would make excellent trainers and possibly excellent penal battalion mechs. Luckly his plans to bring this about was cut short when word leaked of his relationship with a student at the academy and the insuing scandal rocked the whole planet as well. Seems our asteamed general was quite the ladies man, and the roads of conquests went in all directs and age groups.
But seeing promise in the Swiftwind the AFFC ordered a batch 500 built for use on Periphery border worlds and as garassion mechs for miltia and police forces on worlds that had a tendecny to riot over the smallest things.
==Capabilities:== The Swiftwind's main advantage is it's speed. If it tries to fight it will die, that seems to be enough for most of the pilots to come in fast unload with it's lasers and get out just as fast as they came in.
Running away to fight another day is their motto.
==Variants:== Of the 500 made 5 were sent to NAIS for testing and to see if anything could be gained from their continued use.
Rumors suggest that NAIS has cooked up some even faster versions with MASC, TSM and engine superchargers on them, but no offical word as been released on the subject.

Yes its fast, but one PPC hit will take out your four million C-Bill mech.
I still hold the belief that light mechs are a wast of C-Bills and say light conventional vehicles are a far better investment in that weight class.
Why argue if the glass is half full or half empty, when you know someone is going to knock it over and spill it anyways.
I was a Major *pain* before
But I got a promotion.
I am now a General *pain*
Yay for promotions!!!

That is fine. And I hold fast to the idea that if use right a ultra light mech can do it's job as designed, annoy things or be there holding up the other side till help comes, same for the vehicles, they hold the line till the bigger stronger force shows up.

A light will fall if bigger units push it. Lights are not meant to hold the line.
Lights are for getting behind the line and being as annoying as possible.

NO Retry and you won't see commercial armor on any mech I build or any that my group uses or builds, nor will you see very many with RLs on them. Small Cockpits yes I will use those on all tonnage classes.
And Donkey you use what you got, and lights make decent scout mechs or police mechs etc...

If you have enough resources to use an XL engine on an ultra-light mech, you are going to have more than enough to make anything else to hold the line.
You said yourself it is intended to unload one salvo and GTFO of the battlefront. In that regards using medium lasers make little sense.
The use of a standard cockpit which currently takes up a nice 20% of it's total weight makes even less sense.
It is too expensive to be a police mech, and as a scout you may as well take a VTOL.
Ultralight mechs just aren't practical on the battlefield. However, if there is such thing as an optimized ultralight, the below example would be one of the closest.
Speed Demon Mk.I Ultralight Recon IS experimental 15 tons BV: 846 Cost: 4,510,760 C-bills

donkey. Technically any shot that penetrates the center torso or head, or the side torsos of xl carrying mechs could kill a mech. A large laser would end the usefulness of karagins mech.
honestly, mgs are a better weapon for crowd control. I do like some of the fluff.
As for retrys mech, I would think a light recon like this would benefit from ecm or your ever present need for stealth armor.
I understand the need for light mechs. I do not think the ultra light mechs are something that should be on the battle field. I did see in one of the books someone had said that if a recon mech is seen, their mission should be considered a failure. This would be very true for an ultralight mech.

Thank you again Retry, but I do not see my group using commercial grade armor on a mech.
